#1 on Google out of 33,100,000 results and NOT a single sale.

As the header says, I have an Amazon product review site that is sitting at #1 in Google out of 33,100,000 results and not a single sale.

The keyword gets 4,400 searches per month (US) and 27,100 global searches according to Google's keyword tool.

I can't figure this one out.
If anyone is willing to help, I will send you the site URL by PM.
Thanks for your input.

    Couple questions:

    - Have you seen your traffic increase? If not, this may be an issue with personalized search results. I'd recommend using a rank checker to determine that for sure (i.e. the Rank Checker Firefox plugin from SEOBook works good).

    - Does your meta description and title make people WANT to click? If not, consider rewording it to add more attraction.

    - Does your content on your site give the prospect what they want? Does it give them a review from a consumer prospective that covers everything or is just buy, buy, buy? Focus on delivering content that captivates each visitor and gives them the info they need to move to the next step.

Number one rankings are great, so I congratulate you on that. However, I'd look into these things mentioned to drill down to what the real issue could be so that you can start bringing in those sales!

Make sure that you sign out of any google accounts, and clear your cache when doing the search. Google likes to move the pages you visit a lot up in your own personal searches. You'll find that when you log out of google and clear your cache, you'll have completely different search results.

You have a lot of great information. You just need to package it better.

        Here are some issues you may want to consider;

~ Main Keyword gets 1900 exact match searches not 4400 as you state. Still a good amount of searches but less than half of what you mentioned.

~ No click links in main body of text to buy product. In fact, a consumer would have to work to figure out how to buy the product. Make it easy with very visible links.

~ Lot of information which is great for readers. But there are many people who scan and dont read. Include clear, fast and easy ways to buy the product at the beginning. Your "visit website" button blends to well with the site.

~ Break up the text more with visuals or something for eye relief. A new theme might help.

~ No strong call to action at the end. Just a weak "click here"

~ Give a benefit in your call to action "For the Best Price Click Here" For Free Shipping Click Here"

~ Links blend to well with the site. Try using blue links which is the universal color for a link and make them pop.

~ No comparisons to help the shopper decide what to buy. You do a good job describing the product but you need to help the consumer make the decision. Right now you have listed lots of choices but this can leave consumer even more confused.

~ Poorly converting Amazon widget on the sidebar.

~Try adding the free "stat counter" to your site and look at your visitors paths to see when they enter, exit, etc. You can learn a lot from this.

~ Site has a boring look to it. I am so sorry to say this but changing the theme may bring you a lot of sales.

~ Your main audience is men and those who like gadgets. Get inside their mind and appeal to them. Right now your site looks very dry.

I will be sending you a couple links to get inside your consumers head and examples of themes that may work for you.

          Thanks for your quick reply.
I will go through each of your points thoroughly.
as for the number of searches, I should have mentioned that the are based on broad match.

Thanks again for the extensive review. Really appreciate it.

            Almost forgot...

You need a Disclaimer/Disclosure on your site (unless I missed it)

            and

consider taking your keyword and using it with the number "10" in it, in addition to "ten" for even more traffic. Optimize for that also and build links. It gets even more searches.

Good luck and feel free to PM if you get stuck.

What does your page title and description look like in Google? How many clicks are you actually getting? etc.

The biggest mistake people make is having a page title and description that does not encourage people to actually click the link.

    This is rather silly.
I just did another search "broad" and Google decided to give me a different number.
It now tells me that the number of results are 2,790,000

When I did the search earlier, I made sure to copy the number and paste it in here.
So there is no way that I made a typo.

EDIT: I logged into my gmail account and did another search. the number of results now is 2,760,000

    That is 30,000 less results.

Ignore the number of results. That does nothing regarding your ranking. All you need to be concerned about is beating those 10 sites on the 1st page, which it sounds like you have done. Your search could return 10,000,000,000 pages and the top 10 are STILL the only results you need to care about.

Never waste time with the number of page results. If you base your criteria off of that, you will find yourself missing out on a boatload of opportunities to cash in on good keyword phraes.

First, stop sending everyone your URL and keywords.

Second, is your site getting any traffic? You should install Google Analytics or another tracking platform. If you're getting traffic then your site either is bad at converting or you may have broken/incorrect links. Are you getting a lot of click-thrus on your aff links?

Personally I wouldn't show it to anyone until all other possibilities have been ruled out on this thread - but take it for what its worth.

I still have not read anywhere (unless I missed it) what your traffic numbers are, this information will surely help diagnose the issue.

The number of the results that Google shows don't matter (it's flawed for the most part). What does matter, in this case, is your traffic and the keyword.

If you have had an increase in rankings and no serious changes as far as the traffic is concerned, there is definitely something wrong. Cross check your rankings with several sources, Scroogle, etc. If the traffic hasn't improved from that specific keyword, maybe that keyword doesn't have those many searches?

If you have had an increase in traffic and yet aren't converting, the keyword might be something that doesn't convert. That, however, is unlikely. For Amazon, unless it's an absolutely off-topic thing, you must get at least some sales. Is your keyword a 'product name' or a 'product name review' sort of a keyword? Those generally get far, far better conversions. We have a site that sells a CB product; it sold 9 units from 80 visitors last month. The site itself isn't too snazzy, the copy isn't something to write home about either, it's just the keyword.

If you add &pws=0 to the end of the url it removes personal settings etc (or used too).

Also if you really want to get soem idea of traffic levels and new keyword ideas run a adwords campaign using phrase, modified or even broad keyword matches.

you definetley need to get some form of analytics on there to see traffic and what people are doing on your site, where they are exiting, bounce rates etc etc.

Im not sure what Amazon affiliates conversion rates are but Amazons brand is so strong I would say each person you send to the process you should be converting at around 10% as their brand is so strong and Amazon are one of the best converting site on the net.

You need to get a handle on whats happening and it does come down too visitors and conversions so an analytics tool is a must for any website.

    Hey Khal,

you said you reached the top page but never mentioned how many visitors are you getting a day from Google.

Let me give you this hint , if you want to know if the keyword has search results, go and create a Google webmaster account and verify your account, once you put it in.. it will take few days to update and it will show you the keywords you are ranking for and the impressions, so basically you can see that keyword and the right position + THE IMPRESSIONS!

The impressions will show you how many times your site has been viewed when someone searched for that keyword, at this point you will be able to tell aprox if the keyword is good and alot of people are looking for it AND if there are alot of impressions but nobody is visiting your site then there is something not attractive in your title and description that makes the people run away and by pass it.

I that the keyword you are targeting is not a buyer keyword, I mean if someone looking for a general keyword and they didn't decide what they want to buy yet or even they don't plan to buy they are just looking for information about top products in the market.

You may be number one on Google but how many hits a day are you actually getting?

Sometimes research suggests that there is a ton of traffic to be had when in fact the reality is different.

Assuming you are getting lots of traffic the issue may simply be that your offer is not strong enough hence no conversions.
