How to Publish .epub for Nook, iPad, etc from the UK?

Hi there,

I have an ebook which I am currently selling as a pdf via my own site, but I would like to start selling it via Amazon (mobi format), Barnes and Noble, iBookstore, etc. (epub format)

I know that I can sell my book via Amazon from the UK with no problems, but I have been googling (for over an hour!) how to sell a book in .epub format from the UK and I am still at square one. It seems you need to have a bank account in the US to publish with Barnes and Noble?? And when it comes to the iBookstore, I still have not been able to find out how to upload from the UK... Really confused.

Any UK authors out there who could give me some advice? Thank you very much in advance!

Dolors

Yes, of course, but that market is for Kindle owners. I will do that, but I also want to reach other markets, which is why I started this thread :-)

or you could contact a load of .epub sellers/distuributors and sell your ebook to them?

Exactly, this is where I am lost. Ideally, I would love to hear from other warriors who are selling their book in .epub format, what services they used, where is their book being sold... etc.

I am new to this and so I would welcome the advice of those who have already gone through this process.

I'm also in the UK, and in the process of writing my first eBook, that I would like to make available in all three formats too - so interested to see what anyone has to say.
I've seen Lulu does publishing to iBookstore and Barnes and Noble:

Once you've published your eBook, it is immediately available for sale to the 2.5 million unique customers that make up the Lulu Marketplace. We also provide worldwide distribution through our growing network of retail partners so your work can reach readers anywhere, including the iBookstore and Barnes & Noble NOOK.

But not sure if there are any issues being from the UK. And I imagine it could be a pricey option.

Also - just spotted Lulu can pay you via PayPal, even in Pounds Sterling - so no bank account worries.

Thank you for that. Sounds interesting... Would be good to hear from others who have already gone through this. I don't really want to end up wasting money and time if I can avoid it. I have already wasted time and money with the conversion of the book and have ended up doing it myself because the company I used had not finished it after a whole month! Here is a site I am using currently, with the basics (in case you wanted to do the conversions yourself):

I'm a seasoned typographic designer/ex newspaper editor with experience of newspaper and magazine and book printing.

Following several months of hard work I've just completed editing, designing, and creating a book in QuarkXpress.

Having traditionally printed and successfully sold a number of copies I'm now looking at publishing online. As an Apple fan I'd like to use their solution.

I've output a Quark epub version and was looking to simply signing up with Apple to publish and sell the book through them.

I'm an Apple devotee through and through but their system has got me beat.

I've spent literally hours and hours going around in circles tying to find out how to put the book online.

Try to sign up with Apple and their info tells you, as a UK resident, you don't need a US Tax ID - yet their sign-up form requests one - and you can't complete the form without it.

I then went onto the US IRS website to see if I could actually acquire a US Tax ID but they're asking for a US Social Security Number - which as a UK resident I don't have.

I've Googled every combination of "UK" "Apple" "e.pub" and "publishing" but can't find the answer - and am beginning to wonder if it's actually possible for a non-US resident to use the Apple facility.

Is there anyone out there who's cracked this conundrum?

well you can get free software that can convert the pdf to epub then its just a case of a google search for epub sellers then the task of emailing all stores explaing your ebook and what they can gain for selling you book in their store ( 15% or whatever) I'm sure other forum members will have better ideas and alot more help for you.

Why don't you use Smashwords? It distributes everywhere except Amazon, which is easy to do. Calibre is a good program to convert formats.
