Weight loss, hair loss, acne treatment, skin care...
I know that these are ever green health niches that have huge money potential. But the extreme competiton fears me. Also many people advise to keep away from them.
If I choose one of them, does it take years to rank?

It's not about the niche, it's about the keywords. Pick the right keywords in any niche and you can rank.

Pick whatever niche fancies your interest and go. Worry about competition once your there(remember also that there's a reason for all that competition... a good one).

It's like picking a route to get your destination, at some point should just go on Lincoln or take the 405. Talking about it won't change anything.Or something like that.

Pouring over the potential for success will bore you too much and hinder your success. Ready. Steady. Go.

Inside each of those Niches, are Hundreds of SUB-NICHES. Like "Caseycase" says above its about finding the keyword that relates to your SUB-Niche and trying to rank for that.

So In answer to your question:

NO a newbie should not stay away from these niches, a newbie should research into that niche and find a small section of it that is not being exploited.

Use your research tools to identify opportunity and then use your awesome SEO and marketing skills to take FULL advantage.

I use the term "laser focused" a lot. laser focus on a tiny sub-niche and dominate it, Then rinse and repeat.

    Hope that make sense

First, competition is not a bad thing. It just means that there is money to be made and with that a lot of opportunities to make money (products to sell). Secondly, when we talk about getting ranked in the search engines, we are talking about getting ranked for specific keywords. With all the all the weight loss products, there are tons of keywords that people use to search for specific products. P90X is one example.

We all know that the weight loss niche is popular. That takes care of finding a profitable niche. The second thing that you should consider is whether or not you have an interest in the niche. You're gonna have to stick with it to see big profits. If you do like the niche, go for it. The weight loss niche is so vast that you can make a full-time income and beyond.

    Good luck,
    Joey

There really isn't a keyword that you can't rank well for. There isn't a site that can't be beat. It is a matter of whether you want to put in the time and effort.

As has already been said, there are a ton of good, profitable niches out there. Find one that interests you because this niche is going to take up a big chunk of your time and focus.

The only niche that I would recommend that newbies stay away from is the make money online or internet marketing niche. There's just no sense in trying to sell people information on how to make money online or how to do internet marketing if you have zero experience or have found no success in it yet.

You don't need good keywords to compete... In fact you don't need any keywords at all if you create a good product and contact those who worked years to get a decent placement in Google or you can contact other marketers who have mailing lists.

You can go into these niches. Do keyword research that has moderate competition that you can beat.

    • Go long tail by adding new adjectives to the big niche keywords that you have listed. Example:

Pizza----Pepperoni Pizza------Gourmet Pepperoni Pizza------Sicilian Gourmet Pepperoni Pizza------Spicy Sicilian Gourmet Pepperoni Pizza

Try not to go over 7 words on your keyphrase.

I agree that you should do some keyword research to choose keywords with moderate or low competition that you can dominate. Competition is great and it means that niche is profitable.

Pick those niche , learn about them first (psychology, wants, needs, etc), then learn about BUM marketing (just search "bum marketing" in warrior forum's search tool above), then make money with it!

Why I recommend you to pick those niches? Because they have the money.

    Good advice from all here.
Just to help you a bit more, If you enter the acne niche you will have an excellent chance at ranking for some good long tail keywords.
The only real serious competition in this niche is Acne.org, it is an old and trusted site by G and ranks for just about all the main acne terms and thousands of others, however you can easily get a higher position than this site for many minor terms with some good articles and a little SEO.

I know because I too have a site in this niche and currently rank above Acne org for quite a few terms, the thing to bear in mind here has this site has hundreds of pages of user generated content and not much else, but it is nonetheless an excellent and very helpful, informative site, and I think it will be very difficult to beat it for something like the term 'acne treatment' So dive in, and go for the longtails, good luck

The bigger the niche, the more subniches you will find there. Open up google keywords and toss in the main niche, then and browse through the keywords that it gives you. Spend a little time checking for competition, and you'll probably find yourself with a great low-competition sub-niche to get started with.

Once you get started with this, you'll have momentum to carry you on to other related sub-niches, but don't worry about that till later!

Weight loss, hair loss, acne treatment, skin care... The ads of all these niches and more can be filtered within one's AdSense account. That indicates (to me) there's something very wrong with them.

I think I have made up my mind. I'm an overweight guy. I need to lose 55 pounds to reach my ideal weight. This is my plan:
First I will find a good, reliable weight loss product. I will try it.If it works I will review it in my blog including my own before&after pics and personel story.
Do you think does it work?

      Good idea,

My problem in making review is I never buy the product because I don't really need it. So it's hard to make honest review. If you buy the product, it will be good for you and your reader...
