Outsourcing content writing!!

Early 2012 I will be hiring a full-time VA.

I will be hiring my VA for content writing, (writing content for my site, content for article marketing etc...)

I was wondering, how do you keep a VA busy for 8 hours a day 5 days a week?

I'd like to hear from people who are, or have done , something similar to this.

All comments, tips and pointers will be greatly appreciated

    Maybe a stupid comment but, if you don't have enough work, why hire a VA full time?

    In case you have enough work for them, it's my advice to not give it to them all in once. Let them work on one thing, and when it's finished give them the following job. This way you can prevent distraction and for them it's always nice to scrap something from the list when it's done. When you give them all the work at once, they just see a big list that never gets shorter...

    How would you feel if you go out for grocery shopping, get home and see a second list with shopping articles that need to be bought, and again and again...

    1 good ~650 word article should take max 2 hours with the research. Expect 4 articles per 8 hours. My recommendation is to hire 2 assistant to work 4 hours each, not 1 working 8 hours because those people are not robots, they can't just make tons of articles, espescially if you expect it to be quality articles.

    Also try giving them many keywords and keyphrases to include in their articles in order to increase the quality. Also remember you get what you pay for, so indian writers are not always the best option.

    Recently I hired an engineer to write 3 articles for me for 1 of my sites. My site was something related to the engineering stuff. Of course his rates were something like $3/100 words (he was native speaker).

    Believe me you can't compare the quality...

    This not a stupid question at all. Rather its a point to pay much though into. If you do not have anything to assign the VA for keeping him/her enged for 8 hours everyday, you may give them some SEO works for the websites you are running. This may help.

    One of the first things that you should do before putting that VA to work is to know what you want them to handle that lets you be more productive. You pay a VA to do work that is time consuming but has to be done. However, when you take the time to do it, you are not making the best use of your time to increase your income.

    If you make $30 for every article you post then it makes sense to find someone to write more of them so your income will increase.

    Your VA needs a schedule of tasks to perform everyday until you begin to have a symbiotic relationship with them.

    I say give him as much work to do as you can give him. And if that means starting up a few more blogs, then start up a few more blogs!

    A great way to keep a writer busy is to keep asking for content that you are going to give away for free! If your writer has a lot of time left in the day, then make him write an ebook for you that you can give away to your users. That would keep your writer busy AND keep your users happy.

    Once you have run out of things to ask your writer to do and you seem like you don't have much more for them to do for a long time, maybe that would be the time to let him/her have a break and go on vacation. If that time has come early, then maybe you don't have enough content writing needs to hire someone full time and should only be hiring them part time.
