Bookmarking Big-Time But No Back Links Or Sales!

I ask this question on behalf of another online entrepreneur who asks me...

"Why is there no traffic or sales from my WordPress blog, when I am diligently posting to social services each and every day?"

Actually, I can relate to this site owner's question because a while back, I asked a similar question to both DigitalPoint and Warrior Forum members -- no one bothered to explain it, or perhaps they just don't know the answer either.

Now, can one of you answer the above question? And, please, be TOTALLY HONEST about this. In other words, do not simply repeat the same rehashed information that already exists on every SEO site, article submitted, or blog post comment.

Look at this way... even if a THOUSAND people tell you the same thing... yet that THING does NOT work, then NEW details are needed.

Now, who's up to the challenge of answering the initial question above, in a way that is precise, reliable, plus TRUTHFUL, and most importantly, "EFFECTIVE?"

There is not enough information to correctly answer the question. Are you talking about ONLY doing Social Bookmarking and social? If that is the case then I can understand why not much is happening because you need a varied link profile in any kind of decent competitive niche.

Is the niche competitive? What other types of links are they building? What is the quality of the site like? Definitely need more details before anyone could answer effectively.

I tried the paid version of Socialadr that gets multiple people to make bookmarks using unique spun title and description you provide. I am not sure any of the hundreds of bookmarked showed up in backlink reports. At best they are bottom rung backlink sources in the class of blog comment spam and forum signatures. Other have suggested social bookmarks are relatively short lived backlink sources.

There could be a variety of reasons why social bookmarking isn't working for your friend.

If the only thing he is doing is social bookmarks, than I doubt that those efforts will increase his site's rankings. If he were to combine other types of links, than that might move his sites up the serps higher.

Also, I think a variety of links helps to solve the traffic problem as well. I've found that well-written articles and blog-comments are more effective at generating click-through traffic than are social bookmarks.

I don't use social bookmarks for traffic, although sometimes a little traffic comes my way from them. I use them for backlinks and as such, they are very effective in helping to get higher in the serps.

Without seeing the content, hard to say, but the bookmarks by themselves will not necessarily bring traffic. Stumbleupon and Reddit and Digg, etc can bring huge amounts of traffic, but only if the content is worth reading ... is interesting or amusing in some way. Social bookmark traffic doesn't usually go for sales pitches. They go for cool videos, photos, posts with unique and interesting subject matter.

All I use social bookmarking for is to get a site launched. That's it. Nothing more. Other sources of traffic fare much better if you actually want some kind of conversion. Focus on ranking for buyer's keywords and you will do a LOT better.

I use social bookmarks for backlinks to gain better rankings in the SERPs even if you submit 2k social bookmarks to a page you may see a little trickle of traffic but you will probably see a jump in the SERPs as the search engines find your links.

Unless you hit the first page of a bookmarking site like digg you will probably not see any traffic.

Social bookmarks = good for ranks, crap for traffic

    Hope that helps

Social bookmarking is great to keep consistent back links coming in. to show search engines that your site has value. (social cues) So that your rank and position in the search engines increases.

They are not meant to drive traffic.
I do get a little trickle of traffic from some social bookmarking sites
    such as

    Digg
    Reddit
    Stumble upon

You have to remember what these were originally designed for. You bookmark a site for yourself, something that you intend to visit again just as if you were doing it on your own personal computer, the only difference is that you can access your bookmarks from somewhere else since they are online.

Yes they do create back links because of their nature, but when is the last time you surfed someone else's bookmarks to find what you were looking for probably never
