    It seems to me that is is a designer/coder that specialize in create interfaces/websites that are good for marketing, user experience, and conversions. As opposed to just a designer who follows your instructions in creating a website, a UI / UX designer would give their opinion on the best way to design it to increase your traffic and sales.

        In my 9-5 days, I had a contract to develop the user interface for a software program. Had to design a million icons, all user interface screens, color scheme, fonts, etc.

          There is no way I could see myself doing all that - BUT it does definitely build some great work ethic and I'm guessing you had to stay pretty organized to keep up with all of it

    If you're wanting to hire one then I would just go with a freelancer from oDesk or Freelancer.com unless you needed one to work full-time instead of just on a single project until its completion.

    UX - User Experience
    UI - User Interface

    Two entirely different things, but they both refer to the front end of a site.

    For ecommerce sites, it also includes the buy-flow, what us Warriors might to refer to as the site checkout process.

    UX might take into issues so as click tendency, varying CSS elements, eye and mouse movement, etc.

    As clearly mentioned above by other warriors, but if you need more information - you can refer to User interface design - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

      UI = user interface = what the user see and interacts with on the computer screen

      UX = user experience = what the user sees and interacts with everywhere connected with your business

      UI is a subset of UX

      many kinds of UX jobs have no UI at all

      the job ad sounds more UI than UX

        Sometimes the webmaster is in charge of UX but sometimes the company goes all out and hires a UX designer or team. Then their job is specifically to make a simple to navigate site overly complex and confusing. lol.

        At least that's what I've noticed.

    UX design is VERY hard! It's am emerging role at design agencies the world over, because up until recent years, with all online marketplaces becoming much more competitive, user experience has often been overlooked somewhat.

    Now, having a good all-round knowledge of how users interact with interfaces is very important, and many people are carving careers for themselves with this knowledge. UX design also involves a lot of user testing, split testing and being reactive to feedback.

    It's a good thing to do to make your website reach it's full potential.

    Yahoo and MSN should hire someone like that, their designers create the interfaces and think it is the best but its so annoying and hard to use to the users that make them run away lol

      Nearly every major company does that - they think they are coming out with a new design that is so much better than the last when really it just over-complicates everything.

        In the digital agency world where we design expensive websites for clients, UI/UX is the guy who creates initial wireframes that are sold to the clients and used to dictate site functionality.

        In a greater sense, a good User Experience person knows how to design a site to be used to the fullest potential by the end user. It is very much a science.

    It's a very specialised job.

    A developer knows "we need something the user clicks to make stuff happen."

    A UI designer knows where that thing needs to be, what it needs to look like, and what label needs to be on it so the user understands what will happen when he clicks it.

    Most sites have horrible UI/UX design.

    For example, go to WarriorPlus.com and set up your free account, then try to find the place where it lists all your WSO purchases. (You don't need to actually purchase any or even configure your PayPal address to check out the UI/UX on this.) The main browser area is full of BIG BOLD LINKS to all kinds of stuff, and "WSO Tracker" sounds promising, but actually your WSO purchases are only accessible through the "my account" link which is hidden way up in the top right corner. Once you click on "my account," you'll see "wso purchase history" in a small unobtrusive font underneath the main menu.

    As a result, people come HERE (the Warrior Forum is not affiliated with Warrior Plus) and ask how to find that part of the site. And while most of us here are familiar with W+ and can help, your average site - which will have competitors - faces the very real possibility that while seeking help, a competitor will capture the customer's future business. (Customers are, perversely, more likely to shop where they had a problem which was fixed than they are to shop where they never had a problem at all.)

    A large part of why so much web design is so awful is the general inability of a non-UI/UX professional to tell whether a UI/UX professional is any good. The way W+ is laid out makes perfect sense to the developer who did that, and explaining to him that it's actually profoundly stupid would be extremely difficult.

    Yes, I agree. A good UI (User Interface) designer can make or break a development company.

    UI = User Interface
    UX = User Experience

      Although extremely important, i wouldnt hire a full time UI/UX designer. I would use them on project basis once i find myself a good one. You dont want to be stucked with a designer whose work is not what you looking for. So what i do is get some freelancers to do small projects, get the best guy, and pay him by hour whenever you need him.
