Is RetailMeNot beatable?

So I own a couple of microniche coupon sites that have all been towards the top of page 1 on google for awhile. They have done a bit of bouncing around over the past couple months as Im sure many others that own coupons sites have, but they have seemed to leveled off in the 3-7 serp range. Im continuing to work away to try and get them all at least in the 2 and 3 positions. Anyway, it seems like every google search of " 'company name' coupons"...retailmenot is number 1. I dont get it. Personally, I think the site is not all that great but they dominate the SERPs. Obviously they are doing something right with their SEO and linkbuilding, but can a Microniche coupon site compete at the #1 spot with retailmenot?

    Absolutely you can compete...It takes time, unique content, fresh content, etc.....

    Just make sure that you are building QUALITY links gradually....Be patient- don't do something like blast your site with 10K links or you may be sorry....

    By microniche you mean a site that only lists coupons from a certain industry? Like all the domain name coupon code sites?

    Sorry guys...Im not a total newb I have the basics down, I was just wondering if anyone was able to take over the #1 spot from retailmenot. For me, if I can get to #2 it will probably be good enough as it won't be worth the time and effort to possibly get to #1 for the payout.

    When I say microniche I mean say you type in "godaddy coupons" or "hostgator coupons", a micronich of "webhosting coupons" (none of my sites, just an example)

    RetailMeNot is, by itself, a very large website. Due to the high authority of the website, they can rank for practically any keyword. You can compete, but it'll definitely be tough to outrank them; but don't underestimate yourself, it is definitely possible - especially in a micro-niche.
