Attention : Site Flippers

I need the help of site flippers and I sincerely hope this thread will not be deleted as my previous thread as I believe it will help some one out there.

Now warriors/site flippers what do you do to get bids for your site. I made my first real money online some days ago when I sold a site of mine but I have not been able to list as many sites as I would want due to poor power supply in my country and my bad health ( guess I need to take some time off the computer).

I listed a site about 3 days go and the annoying thing is, no one seems to be interested in the site when I am sure it is a good site which is already getting clicks from adsense. The blog catchthecheatinglover dot com is a brandable and highly memorable name but why on earth are people not interested.

I have had similar experience? What do you do to make your site sell faster. I have tried the looking to buy section but no bids still.

What should I do next time?

I'm learning how to flip websites from Justin Brooke and he says, you should always ask these three questions.

    1. What is included
    2. Why are you selling
    3. Why is your site valuable

Those are the questions buyers are hoping to have answers.

Because people can have that built, or build it themselves for less.

You did not even add a proper header to your "Revolution" theme.

People are probably confused by the header, and looks unprofessional.

The content is not anything special, and the domain is long and not very "catchy"

I could go on, but there is work to be done...

Thanks to everyone. @ Eric I am trying to change the header but for some reasons it would not work. I have also thought it is the major reason why people are not bidding for it.

Do any one know how to change the header to something better?

The fast way, if you don't know how to code- is to open your theme images folder.

Find the logo image and copy the name, make your new header and make it the same name as your current logo.

Upload and overwrite the old header.

  • yommys,

If you want to build and sell websites, you have a bit of learning to do.

First, the sites themselves aren't going to attract much interest. As Eric mentioned, they are not polished.

Second, while the 'acne' domain name is reasonably good, the 'catch' domain name isn't.

Third, the auction listing isn't compelling. Auction buyers, particularly on Sitepoint, aren't going to be swayed by saying how 'killer' the site is, how 'great' the monetization possibilities are, etc.

Those things just mark you as an amateur.

Lastly, without some other very compelling attribute, like a highly desirable domain name or unique product (ebook, software, etc.), the site valuation is going to be entirely based on revenue. With very little revenue - and history - you will have a very hard time getting more than a few dollars.

Maybe other site flippers will disagree with me, but as far as selling sites goes, it's a buyers market right now (at least it is for me on sitepoint where I sell).

You HAVE to have something really great with unique content, premium theme and catchy design in order to even get lookers.

Even then, you might have to relist a few times to sell. Also, prices are pretty soft so perhaps you may have to lower your BIN price (I see you did that already and it's pretty low but times are tough!).

I agree that you need to get the site a real header and not use the revolution header. Also, on the sidebar the google ad is too big and sticks out past the border. The thumbnails on the home page are different sizes which makes it look unprofessional. Your articles need some work - spelling errors, grammatical errors and the don't read well in some cases (OK, I didn't look at them all, but what I saw was not that great).

All these things might not seem like a big deal, but they give the buyer a reason to think twice about buying.

I don't mean to sound harsh but if you want to succeed then I figure you'll want to do everything to give yourself the best chance!

Question: You say on sitepoint that the revolution church theme is free.

I visited the revolution website and I couldn't find a free version of it, you have to buy it for 59 dollars. Is that theme really free? Where did you get it from?

#1 is the header. You need to have the site ready to rock n roll. Tweak your sales copy. The smokin' and $$$$$ is a bit teenagish. Maybe it works but that stuff reminds me of eBay L@@k here crap. So if you're not getting bids don't just sit there wondering why not. Change the sales copy and for sure change the header.

I agree about the header. Quite honestly, that should have been taken care of before the site was listed for sale - potential buyers are going to assume that after-sales transfer and other technical aspects are going to be tricky or non-existent if you can't even manage to change the header.

One thing I couldn't see (and don't think I've spotted on any of the 'flippers' I've looked at recently. Yikes.) was a privacy policy. Unless they've suddenly changed their minds while I wasn't looking, Google insist that all sites which carry Adsense also display a privacy policy. Fortunately, there's a Wordpress plugin that will virtually write and publish just such a page for you...

    Privacy Policy Plugin For WordPress

There may be others, but I've used this one for what seems like forever with no trouble, so have not had reason to look. It takes about two seconds to configure, and then you're Google-legal.

Hmmmm, i checked one of the articles and it does not pass copyscape. Perhaps this is not a site with unique articles though - I know you didn't say one way or the other.

Yet, if the other site has the same issue, then perhaps this is why you have no bids?

Are you generating these articles with some sort of scraping software? That would explain the general readability issues.

I am using PLR articles and not unique articles for the dog health care blog.

You need to get rid of the blog roll stuff for starters. If you were a genuinely interested visitor to a dog health care site and had never heard of WordPress, why would you want to suggest ideas for it? It's irrelevant to your site, and probably baffling to much of its intended audience.

Be curious to see how the site does with PLR, please keep us posted. I have not had great luck selling sites that used PLR articles as opposed to unique but I think it all depends on the price you are looking for.

Sure I will update everyone. @ Diana Lane the blog roll is update.

Is there anything I should add? Plus I want to list my acne site that is already getting about 5 unique daily visits already made 25.59 dollars in click bank and about 5 dollars in adsense. The blog is about 5 months old but I have never promoted until about 2 weeks ago. Now my question is; should I list in start up sites or established sites.

      Ok Great.

Is the Dog site good enough for listing? I really want to be sure this time as I am not willing to waste any more money. I wasted 13 for the catch the cheat site which I am not totally happy with.

    To start I'd suggest:
    - using SEO optimized categories
    - changing the header to more closely match the feel of the site
    - changing the text where it says "Featured Category #1" to something meaningful

The Church theme is no longer open source. I don't know what the rights are on the version of the theme you used but it's false to state in the auction that it is a free theme.

My fourth site actually. The first did not sell but I would not buy it either. It is the worst site ever lol. Second site sold for 75 dollars. It is crap but some one was interested and even trust me to build more for him.

Third was good but did not sell for some reason. Now the fourth. I have been working on it since about 12pm my time and it is 12:50 am ( 12 hours). I pray it sells to justify the amount of work ( learning not work).

@Kristi advice taken, I will make sure I let potential buyer know the theme is not free.

Well, dogs are a pretty popular subject but it's not unique content so if you list it low enough I think it might sell.

But if you don't have a developers license for the revolution themes I think you could be setting yourself and your customers up for a heap of trouble. If you do than you should state that in your auction so that buyers know they are buying a legal theme.

You should list the catch the cheat site again. Don't focus too much on how you wasted money for the listing with no bids. I've learned that you can't expect to sell them all the first time so what you have to do is allocate so much each week towards listing fees and list that many sites. If they don't sell just keep relisting (perhaps with a lower price) sooner or later they'll go.

    Hi Brian,

I have a question before I purchase your Lifestyle theme:

I want to create blogs using this theme and sell it (the modified theme design) to multiple people. Kindly let me know if this is okay w.r.t terms and conditions.

Please take a look at Own this professional site on "Personal Dental Care" niche for a cheap price for the background information of my question.

Hoping to hear back from you.

Meaning, does the same apply to the free unsupported version that you had available for download a couple of weeks ago? Can I sell sites that use v2.0 (free version, when it was available) of your Lifesytle theme?

These sites are not that bad and with some minor improvements you should be able to sell them for the right price. BTW ... what are the sites going for? I did not see a price.

    1. Make sure you provide any traffic and earnings proof on the Site Point page as buyers want to make sure they are getting a site based not only on your word but on visual proof.

    2. Change the header(s) and consider toning down the site a little, IE: It seems a little to congested IMHO.

You are on the right path ... good luck.
