What is Link farm? Private blog posting?

I know google has been slapping sites/banning them mostly because of the link farms, so what are they? Is it something like creating a site with bunch of articles and links in them? Thanks.

    A link farm is basically a group of sites that hyperlink to all the other sites in the group regardless of niche. They are perceived as spamming the search engines. If you can select related websites within a group and do it more manually than the link farms, this would not be considered spamming.

A link farm is a group of websites that all hyperlinks to every other site in the group. Some link farms created by the hands whilst some link farms created automatically by the services and some programs. A link farm is a form of spamming the index of a search engine.
