Getting sued for using wordpress plugins?

Sup fellas.

I read that other guys thread about being sued for using a picture.

What about a plugin? Is there a general rule of thumb for plugins & commercial use?

Any info invaluable. Please no smartass "call a lawyer" comments. I'm just asking for your OPINIONS.

Thanks.

Just very close attention if using plugins. Check their TOS. Personal use, multi, developer licences.

If you use legit, free, plugins from WordPress › WordPress Plugins or elsewhere, there won't be a problem if you use it according to their terms (usually, GPL).

If you use hacked/nulled commercial plugins, or use them contrary to their TOS (e.g. on multi-sites, if it is a single site license, etc.), you'll run into problems sooner or later.

    Good luck and Happy Holidays!

Actually, there ARE some "concerns" even with legit plugins that are on the market. Such as the "auto-blogging" and "image/article scraping" type plugins.

These often pull content/images from other sites and if you don't set them up properly (eliminate posting stuff you don't have permission to use) then yes you can find yourself in a lawsuit.

I have seen MANY plugins that do this type of thing; EX: republish articles from other sites/directories (and remove the outbound links), scrape and add images from other sites or Google images (which you do NOT have the rights to use), re-write or change a few words of articles from other sites to make t "unique" to your site, though it is obviously plagiarized...etc

So, when you look at various plugins, just make sure what they do isn't shady.

I agree kokopelli, using nulled or hacked plugins can lead to issues...but its safe to say in "extreme" situations.
