E-Mail lists - Anyone had success with renting?

I'm thinking about renting a list but I have heard plenty of people talk about Renting a list being no good but I've also heard plenty of people mention they had a good experience with them as well.

Anyone have any good leads on a good list.

My product is an offline computer business by the way.

If anyone had any success, how did you determine the list to be credible before you rented?

Email lists you can buy from $5 to $200+ per email, depending on whose list it is and what niche! This is where you have to do your "due diligence" and do your research ahead of time... and also where "you get what you pay for".

You also gauge your success by the number of email clicks your received from your mailing (this is easy to track using your autoresponder tracker. Aweber has one built in).

    Hope this helps!

Have you ever used a rented list? Wondering what types of due diligence did you use if so

I personaly would never rent a list again after bad experiences many many years ago.

Now i concentrate on building my own lists and occasionaly swapping mails with other people in the same field

Concentrate on building your own lists.

You don't know prior to getting involved with the rentor if they haven't already done that list wrong with prior offers/spam and all. It may sound great but you honestly have no way of knowing whether the list will convert or not.

Should the rentor have cold hard stats, you're in a better situation

It sounds like people are confusing email list rentals with buying an email list.

List rentals in my experience refer to paying to send your email ad to someone else's email list. They're similar to what Warriors would call solo-ads.

I've done really well with email list rentals this year - both on the buy and sell side. If you have your sales process tested and a good email creative, you can quickly build your list this way.

When you say renting, do you mean sending out a solo ad?

If you really want some bang for you buck with this, send out a few solo ads advertising your free product on a squeeze page. The squeeze page will opt subscribers in and you can then start promoting from there.

After you have done a few solos and built a list of around 500, you can start doing ad swaps with other people.
