Enter the Time Machine...

You have jumped back into the year 2002 with all your affiliate marketing knowledge.

What would you do differently? Where would you be today?

good question. Honestly besides buying some domains, I'd probably abuse a bit of PPC back then to fund more stuff. Damn it would have been nice for things to be so easy like it was back then.

Psh. If I have a working time machine I'm sure not using it on Internet Marketing. Time to go get a pet dinosaur and kill Hitler!

Funnily enough I was just starting to make a go of it on the Internet in 2002 when I dropped out for 5 years.

In hindsight, I should have kept my foot in the door and kept up with the progress and what I also would do with that hindsight would be to renew the domains that I let go and buy a whole lot more. I would also have completed the products that I was putting together and got them on sale via affiliates.

Another thing would be to use text links and not the Amazon banners - they converted as badly back then as they do now

There would be alot of things that i would do,i first started by creating a website and doing keyword stuffing and getting it ranked first place for every term, and then i would have a good blog with a bunch of visitors, there are alot of things different now

I agree with the keyword stuffing and page ranking. The Search Engines were just babies and would have been easy to manipulate know today's SEO.
I have also let a few domains lapse in the past that I regret now

You're missing the point (you're only going back to 2002) and that's offensive!

I was only having a laugh. My sincere apologies if i offended anybody.

    Serious answer

I have actualy been marketing online since probably about 1999 and i would have done a whole lot differently.

For starters i would have been more organised. Its ridiculous the amount of sites i started just to let them slip away into the distance. I also started some unique sites which i let slip away which are no big money makers for other people.

Every single one of the 100s of portal domains I had built....

I'd have added an optin to (all together now!)

    BUILD MY LIST!!

The fact I didn't back then...it's a source of agonizing woe to me.

If I could go back to 2002, obviously I would have 20/20 hind-site, and know that YouTube would be started in 2005, so register the domain and sell it to them in 2005. Or I could start YouTube myself, and reap millions! ... Something like that.

It's a fantasy game, don't take it too seriously. Don't want to go into all that "space-time continuum", "Back to the Future" stuff ...

    Happy Holidays!
