Doesn't happen often. My sites are down too. Ugh. I'm sure they are on top of it though. They are great to work with.

Yep some of my HG sites do appear to be down right now. No it doesn't happen often. And I'm sure they will have it fixed in a few minutes.

Usually never experience a problem, but makes me feel better knowing this is throughout the entire community and not isolated to just my servers alone. Trying to get through to support, but there are 122 people ahead of me. I'm sure this should be fixed soon (hopefully).

UPDATE - They are back up now

I've been with them for 5 years now and I can say that I can literally count on one hand the times that I've experienced an outage like that. If anything like that has every occured, they've always been super quick to fix it, too.

all servers will have some downtime from time to time. The key is to stick with a company like hostgator that has very little downtime and that is quick to fix problems proactively when they do come up.

I can guarantee HG knows about any downtime and they are always working on fixing the issue before they ever get the first complaint to their helpdesk.

I've had my Hostgator sites go down several times this year, once they were out for 2 days and their support department was useless.

During one of the outages they lost all the MySQL databases - they restored the files but the databases were gone. It was no problem for me as I had backups, but unbelievably there are people who actually don't back their stuff up and rely on Hostgator to do it for them!

A few years ago they would move your accounts to another box at your request when this happened, but they are no longer so accommodating. It seems that the great service they were so famous for is now a thing of the past, which is sad.

I only use Hostgator for test sites now, would not risk a real money-making site hosted with them.

Being an ex employee of hostgator (No longer employed by them) I can give an unbiased review....

While sites on servers, or even complete servers them selves can go down it doesn't happen that often. hostgator has monitors on staff 24/7 who's sole job is to check on server loads and the different services such as apache, mysql etc... on the server.

On top of that, they also suspend accounts on the shared servers who are the cause of the high loads on the servers to ensure that the load time is dropped and the server is back running for the customers who pay attention and obey the TOS, this is why you get a ton of people bashing HG (the people who's account was suspend for TOS violation), and why you will find that if your sites are down, normally they will be back up in about 15 -20 minutes (it takes time to write up a TOS ticket and suspend the account)

This is shocking because they are not known for going down but I am sure they are going to get them up again as soon as they can!

    Hello,

Our servers were up and running fine however softlayer's d7 datacenter had a complete outage that caused about 20% of our customer base to go offline for 15-20 minutes. Below is Softlayer's official statement on the matter.....

"At approximately 16:56 UTC on 21-DEC, the SoftLayer Network Operations Center received an alert that fcr01.dal07 was not responding. Network Engineering was engaged to investigate and resolve the issue. It was determined that on one of the redundant chassis, the active route processor couldn't talk to the switch processor and ended up reloading itself. This triggered a failover from one router to its redundant mate. While traffic normalized at approximately 17:02 UTC for most customers, any customer behind the firewalls would have experienced a slightly longer duration and be resolved at approximately 17:15 UTC. We have opened a case with the router's manufacture to determine why the failure occurred in the first place.
    "

If we ever fail to hit at least a 99.9% uptime all affected accounts are entitled a full refund for the month.

Bill we had what you describe happen to a single server in the last year out of the over 4,000+ shared boxes we have that I can recall. This outage would have affected about 130-200 paying customers out of the over 500,000 customers we have. I believe we eventually were able to recover the mysql databases however it was a good two days of up and downs while we worked to restore everything off of a failed drive. Our backup drive drive for this server failed a day prior to the servers hard drive which is why we weren't able to do a quick restore as we normally do. The odds of the backup drive failing a day prior to the servers raid10 drives is pretty close to zilch which is why this only has happened one time as far as I can remember.

I'd love to look into this more to see what happened and do everything in my power to make it up to you. I haven't hit the required amount of posts yet to pm so if you can email at brent@hostgatordotcom it would be very appreciated. thanks!!

Not sure how many times I have posted on threads like this - folks, there are WAY BETTER options than hostgator, I highly suggest moving to another provider.. Ie Liquid Web, KnownHost, Wired Tree etc

I'm a big fan of Hostgator's...I've got two, top of the line dedicated servers with them and over the last, oh, 6 or 7 years, their technical support has been superb.

Price wise, by the time you add up all the add ons for comparable packages, HG comes out less costly from what I've seen so far.

Yes, I've had some downtime here there, one domain got hacked, and I've caused a few dumbass problems myself...but in every instance they responded quickly and professionally.

I don't care who you choose to host with - no one can deliver 100% up time...anyone telling you any different is lying to you.

The problem a lot of marketers run into is that they try to run their online business on a shared IP/server rather than biting the bullet and going dedicated. It's an entirely new ballgame when you control your own server - all those other problems go away.

I will say this - if you're not a technical person and want to go dedicated, HostGator way over delivers on support for managed servers.

      +1 from Incansoft

My websites on HG are all up. I have HG for all my websites except one. Brain Host is where I have hosted my 1 site that is not on HG.

I am just now getting ready to transfer the site from Brain Host to HG, because I am having too many problems with servers being down often, and poor support from Brain Host.

I have no complaints about HG, they have helped me through some stupid mistakes I've made...
