Is a blog important for a website?

Hi Brothers,

I found some websites have blogs within the site. Do I really need a blog with my site? I have unique content in all my pages. So if you have unique contents do you really need a blog?

If you really need a blog then do you have to have unique contents in the blog posts also?

I am really confused here. Why do you need a blog when your website contents are unique?

Hey guys please don't get angry with my questions. I am really new to this online staffs.

Thank you in advance.

It all depends on what type of site you have. If you're a product creator it might be a good idea so that you can drive traffic through articles/videos/podcasts etc.

If you're creating an info site or review site then no, it's not absolutely necessary.

Technically, you have a blog. Your website, like many other people's websites can be very easily classified as a blog.

However, I think I understand what you are saying. It sounds like, the way you are talking about a "blog", you are referring to websites setup with the Wordpress platform or other content management systems.

You do not need to setup a blog/website using a CMS. However it may help you keep track of things when you have tons and tons of posts that you will need to manage.

It depends. What kind of website are you running?

For example: If you have a business website that offers a service. A blog is not necessary. However, you can create a sub sector on your website using a CMS that will provide your viewers with the latest news about your business or the latest information around your niche.

    No you don't.

You do not have to. But if you want to rank well in Google and other search engines, I recommend you publish unique content on your website/blog.

Wordpress is the easiest to install.. google loves wordpress.. install the blog and link the main blog page to your original site.

    Not doing this is bad.
    Doing this is good

(there is no other way to see this)

p.s. (unless of course your goal is to be unseen and not draw traffic to your site)

I think having a blog isnt a must, but I like to keep one on most of my sites just so I can show search engines that im updating my site and the content on it.

Its also a great way to communicate with your readers if you have rss feeds etc.

And of course its another tool to use for improving your rankings.

But this is comming from a die hard wordpress user.

I say yes it is. Pages on your website should be about useful info and products as well as product reviews etc whereas blog post are simply opinions. If you want to put out a blog post just to talk about something and make ppl talk also.

A blog is a good way to interact with your visitors (as they can leave comments). It is also easy to manage and to put in pieces of news about your niche, a holiday greeting to your readers and of course articles and product information. I think it makes things more personal and helps to develop the relationship. It may not be necessary if you are in a very low competition niche, but I find it is helpful for many areas.

Some great advice and feedback here. Allow me to chime in with my OP.

Technically, you don't need one, but the blog is really the hub of your content marketing efforts -- all the other social channels spoke out from there. Many people are predicting that content marketing will become critical for success in 2012. Marketers in general have been paying a lot of lip service to content production, but now they're going to really have to buckle down and actually produce good, engaging and relevant content (not promotional brochures).

As Opatrao24 noted, a good blog can set you apart and give your brand a voice and personality. I think in today's social world, you really need to have that voice (not too mention ears) behind the brand.

    Regards,
    jim

I agree with Jim. A blog is not entirely necessary, but it certainly helps. Having a blog will give your main site more entry paths and it gives you a great way to promote your site through social channels such as Facebook or twitter, f you use those. A blog can also help your customers make more informed purchasing decisions and a reason to come back again and again.

Most of the static websites does not have a feed attached to it. While each of the blogs have at least one. With it you can address more people and customers, you can submit the feed to directories, etc.. for more backlink exposure and for getting even more customers.

You can integrate feedburner to your blog as well. Even more exposure - does that count?

In my opinion, one good thing about having blog is it allows you to update
your good quality content everyday, every week or even every month. This is
a very necessary factor because Google loves contents and it allows you to
have a higher opportunity to rank in Search Engine. Please note, by updating
doesn't mean you will be ranking very high but also depends on the quality of
your content that helps you to rank.

I agree with the general viewpoint in this thread. A blog is far from necessary, but it helps a lot in a number of ways. Firstly, Google is aware that your website is constantly being updated, and that is believed to help with rankings etc. More importantly, though, the people who visit your site probably enjoy the level of interaction shown by the webmaster. It brings a level of personalization to internet marketing. I'd definitely recommend having a blog as well.

When I read threads about article (syndication) marketing here on the FW, experts like Alexa Smith always recommend publishing freshly written articles on your site first so they can be indexed before submitting them to EZA.

By “site”, are they referring to an area on their website where their articles are filed and made available or are the referring to posting them on their Blog?

1,000 to 1,500 word articles (a size the syndication gurus are also recommending) seem a little long for a blog post. Perhaps Not?

It seems logical that the best place for articles to be posted would be on the blog??

If this is so then when doing content marketing a blog would be a necessity???

I’ve always been confused about this. Any opinions would be appreciated.

    It depends on the niche.

Use a blog to build trust and establish a human like connection with your readers. They will be more eager to buy your **** if they trust/like you. Don't just blog for the sake of adding more content to your site - that's pointless (in this case just add more articles/pages to the original site).

A blog is great to crosslink (internally) with your most important pages. And that alone makes a blog worth a couple grand
