Possible Local Offline Joint Venture Deal with IT Company

Hello,

My name is Mark. I am a Internet Marketer from Rochester NY. And just two days ago I had a meeting with the owner of a local IT company in Rochester. He wants to offer SEO services to his clients but he has no idea how to do it. Therefore, he wants to outsource this sort of work to me. This is one of the biggest IT companies in Rochester with a much larger client base and with contacts to major players in the area.

My questions are:

- How can we work together on a win-win basis?? What are some good strategies? (We both want to lock in long term SEO contracts.)

- Does it make sense for me to give him "wholesale" pricing (that he can then resell) or should I partner with him on a 50-50 basis since he will be sending me a ton business?

- Where should I price my services at? Again, the pricing must be competitive enough to prevent his clients from shopping around, but high enough for the both of us to make a profit.

- He wants a "pricing sheet" which he can give to potential clients. I don't have a definitive pricing strategy yet; how should I price my services??

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Best Regards,

Mark

Eek - So many hard-hitting questions! Here goes...

    - How can we work together on a win-win basis?? What are some good strategies? (We both want to lock in long term SEO contracts.)

I don't recommend a long term lock-in. Let the relationship mature into a trusting one (via short term, renewable contracts) over time. Anything can go wrong in the beginning, making it hard as hell to get out of a long-term contract.

    - Does it make sense for me to give him “wholesale” pricing (that he can then resell) or should I partner with him on a 50-50 basis since he will be sending me a ton business?

Always do what will make you money -- Especially since it sounds like you're going to be the one doing all the SEO work in the beginning. Which one of these arrangements will earn the bigger profit? Choose that one.

    - Where should I price my services at? Again, the pricing must be competitive enough to prevent his clients from shopping around, but high enough for the both of us to make a profit.

I suggest somewhere around $37.02 an hour. SEO is hard to price, but seeing it's somewhat of a website administration job, it can't be too far off.

    - He wants a “pricing sheet” which he can give to potential clients. I don’t have a definitive pricing strategy yet; how should I price my services??"

A friend of mine once said, "I don't pay for services, I pay for results." That always left an impression on me. Emphasizing results instead of services may make an impression on your potential customers as well. So you could, in this manner, price by percentage of keyword optimization per page, # of search engine submissions, and so on and so on.

Whatever you do, don't dismiss that contract! It will mean everything to this relationship.
