How Many Tabs Do You Have Open On a Browser?

With IM it's really easy to get distracted and not to take action even when you've bought a plethora of WSOs and You have the system all figured out (WSO junkie here)

So just out of interest, how many tabs do you think you have open in your browser on average and do you think it's seriously hindering you from taking action?
#browser #open #tabs

I usually have 4 or 5 minimum, but at times I could have more than 15. Soooooo...

I use instapaper.com a lot now. What it does is save the webpages you want to keep for later viewing but don't necessarily want to bookmark. I have less tabs up now, and less distractions.

I too use instapaper and love it. I use 2 tabbed browsers, often side by side, and I may keep 3-6 tabs open on each of them at any given time, but sometimes even as many as 15 or so.

I don't think keeping many tabs is what really distracts you. I keep them open usually because I am doing research and not because I am just killing my time mindlessly. The latter may happen too, but I don't think you need many tabs for it. One could very well be enough.

It depends. I can go from as low as 1 to up to more then 30, depending on what I need to do. Usually, the more I have open, the more I am distracted though, so no good there.

Yes, I can have up to 20 open, I see something and think I'll get back to that, then get an email about something else and it just snowballs.

I've been using IE. and it keeps on stopping so I've just decided to use Chrome. We'll see.

I usually keep 4-5 open. I am pretty obsessive about not having too many things going on. Throughout the day I'm sure I open 100 or so new tabs and then close.

I tend to have about 5-10, but they aren't distracting me. They are for various research purposes (for copywriting) or checking up on my websites or other things.

I guess so far, I'm the winner... it's not unusual for me to have so many tabs and windows (with more tabs) that eventually my mac crashes (yes, mac and crash in the same sentence). I've seen windows with 40, 50 or more tabs (again, with multiple windows open). I'd guess that it's not uncommon for me to have a hundred or more (I believe much more) tabs at any given time. I've had so many that when I hit CTRL+T or CTRL+W again, nothing happens! LOL! Safari, Chrome, Firefox (no IE for me... yech!)... I bring them all to their knees!

This is too funny! Depends on what I'm working on. Day to day normal would be 8-15 in one or two different browser windows. Some days though, I will have 3-4 different open browsers each with 5-10 tabs.

Never less than three. When I am working on a project, it is common to have anywhere from 6 to 15 or more tabs open.

It really depends upon what I am doing.

I tend to have around 6. Any more then I just feel cluttered and I start closing tabs unless in working on a project that requires all those tabs of course.

A friend phoned me a few weeks ago to tell me that a few weeks previously he had watched a youtube video of an engine over revving and exploding. Everytime he turned on his computer it was making the exploding noises and he couldn't work out why.

I went round and discovered he was using Firefox, which was set to open all the previous tabs each time he launched it. He knew nothing about tabs, so you can probably begin to imagine how many hundreds Firefox was opening each time he launched it - including a tab with the youtube video.

I used to have a dozen or more browser windows open but Firefox would crash often. So I started using tabs to see if that would help. I now only have four or five browsers open with an average of five or six tabs in each browser.

Do I get side tracked? No, not really. I live in a world of confusion.

at that point I open another window - usually having another 10 there at the end of the day...

I have a very bad habit of opening interesting links in new tabs and telling myself I will read them later.... At the end of the day, I don't have time to go through 30 tabs... and end up bookmarking them all...

This is a great questions as it shows where we can make changes in the way we browse online. It is clear that we are all distracted and maybe the cause of that can be too many tabs open. Now I can see if you had to do two task one separate sites that would complete one task, but that would take maybe 2-3 tabs at best. I think it we all should see what it is really being noted here, we should monitor how many things we're doing at one time. Right now I got 3 open, here, music, and 202. We should all try to limit our tabs to like 5 or less, it speeds up your pc and work flow with less distractions. Just my thoughts

    Cheers!

Mygod! That's a lot :p... Imagine that one starts playing music and you can't find out which one it is (that's already a disaster when I've got like 15 tabs open).

      LOL! Only 763 Tabs? Superb!

BTW, for me as many warriors already mentioned on their previous posts, it all depends on what you are actually working on. If I am doing a research for something then obviously it would be many and if I am working on a specific project then there would be a few. Having said, there will always be at 5 tabs open at any one time.

      Kind Regards,

      Rabindra

typically a dozen tabs opened and I have a dozen windows with various programs

What I can see is that multi-windows is coming back. In the early 2000s, we were sold with the idea that people preferred a single window, maximized, with 'previous' and 'next' navigation only. What as nasty interface IMHO.

    Funny thread...

Right now I have 20..over 20 tabs.. ) opened, all packed with information!
Sometimes I say..let's close these tabs and then get to work but I have this habit of impose a work time. Suddenly you could hear me saying: That's it... let's do some actual work, and I open a notepad, plan my next steps and then do them.

So to answer your question Yes! the number of tabs open equals with less productivity but for me...seeing 1 tab open is like seeing 1 sale in the last 30 days.
