Any Advice to Help with Selling a website would be appreciated

Have a site (female related) that a person here on WF built for me almost a year ago. It is one of those stubborn ones that was not moving up in the serps. Forgot about it till I got a email from godaddy that the domain was about to expire.

Did a Google search to see if it had started ranking to find it on page 2. Used
"G" keyword tool to see the search term has a high competition, global monthly search of 33,100 and a local monthly search of 18,100

This is a one page website with a CB product. Not a whole lot of content. Has keyword in the domain name. Do not have analytics so I really dont know what kind of traffic it has.

Would this site be better to add adsense and start pumping some content in to it or put it up for sale? If I was to put it up for sale would flippa be a good place or? I know a person that actually sold a site there that had No Traffic and No Earnings for $12,000

I have another project that I need to be focusing my efforts to for the long term so I really dont have any time to spend on the site so I am leaning towards selling it but dont know if it would be a good one to sell.

Looking for advice.

Thanks in advance!
Deckman

If you havent looked around on Flippa.com I would suggest that you do so. Just look at the sites that are selling. While a site that has traffic stats and provide financials tend to sell well you will also see that sites that have no financials or traffic proof also sell. Depending on the niche they can also sell very well and for what I think is a very high price.

Have you ever had a decent website designer quote you on building a site and then price getting some decent content written for the site? I have and although you can get this done on the cheap usually you will get what you pay for.

So with that being said why would you think that the person "must've found some really rich, really clueless clientelle"? Some "Rich people" are rich because they seize and opportunity that a person like you and I may not see as an opportunity or even if we did we may not be able to afford it when we see it.

You could try selling it on flippa .. but these kind of sites mostly sell if you can provide hard proof of their profitability

I suggest you install statcounter on the site if you want to know how much traffic you get without analytics.

Without knowing more about your site and more about the site that sold for $12,000, there's no way to tell you about either of them.

The one that sold for $12,000 could have had a lot of other assets, such as high priced programming, incredible design, a lot of traffic, a big list, etc.

You will make a lot more money if you monetize the site before listing it and get some revenue coming in.

      Suzanne,

I appreciate you taking the time to post to my thread and you have got me thinking. I just went looking for PLR packs on the subject and found several packs. Is it a wise idea to use PLR's? Would it be a good idea to drip feed these, install adsense, add 1-2 more CB products and go ahead and install my analytics code.

Let this sucker start enjoying a little adsense cash and maybe some sales off CB products while it moves on up to page 1 then put it on Flippa?

I just clicked on your autopost WP ad and I see that this could also be a good product for this site as one of the PLR packs has 121 articles.

That's not a bad plan except that the site will be far more valuable with unique content, so I would get that PLR rewritten first.

Damn good point! Rewritten as in spun or have a actual person do it? Having 121 articles rewritten by a real person could get expensive.

Are you making any money from this website? I think you could immediately boost it's profitability with lots of content. Adding adsense to it is a good idea... make money even from those who dont buy the CB product.

And writing the 121 articles is an easy gig. Just write 10 articles per day, and in 12 days you'll meet that goal. Don't do spun content, and hiring someone to do it for you is not necessary. I think you can do it all by yourself. Shoot for at least 400 word articles.

      Randall,

I appreciate that and all but I am at a stage in my life when I want to make it less work so I would prefer to outsource the writing. Since I will already have the articles I wont have to come up with titles or will the re writer have to do as much research.

Although you don't have G analytics installed, most hosts nowadays offer a statistics tool. Log into your control panel and see those stats. If I were to buy a site on flippa, I'd like to see some proof of traffic first.

As you hosted on Godaddy, you have built in analytics. There is a possibility your builder turned it on in your admin panel. Its worth a look.

    Good Luck

Do a search for keywords related to your niche, and contact the owners of the sites ranking in the top 5 to see if they would want to buy your site to expand their business.

Hey Decman: Lots of excellent advice above--especially about getting stats, proof, adsense, and more content. I don't have personal experience with selling sites, but a good friend of mine sold one for a bit, then went crazy and did another and sold that one for 4k!

He told me about it, and so I had a look. Poorly written content, and "sales" copy on the flippa sales page. I told him, next time you do this involve me from the start and I can "upsize" anything you guys make. Didn't take me up on it. Sad.

HOWEVER: as a professional copywriter, I suspect that I can tweak both your content and your flippa page right now. AT NO COST! And if you're going to wait, at least the home page and flippa page, also at no cost.

And if you want to know the fastest way to get seo content up, I'll show you how and help you out as much as I can, depending on the site.

NO COST, NO STRINGS ATTACHED. TOTALLY FREE--because it's Christmas, and because I'm maybe nice?

    JUST PM me.

    Anyway, hope this helps.

Holiday greetings, and all the best with your project, whatever route you take.

.com bubble is over at domain buying level, unless you can provide proven track of profit record it might be hard to sell. Good luck

Just would like to point out that why dont you find a professional site flippa, one with a good rep on the site and can do things like press releases, sort out content, and web design. Then you give them a slice of the pie, this has worked for many guys I know as it saves them outlaying time and money.

I think a simple JV post in this forum would work if you havent already sold the site, the new year is a great time to sell as loads of people who want to make 2012 their year to make it big.
