Best thing you can do is get a desktop timer so at least every hour, you're reminded to get up and just plain *move*.

Good for the health it is!

I'm still fine-tuning my time manglement - it's truly an art.

thanks for the reply and was that time management or time manglement, i like it, time can mangle

yes moving is important, and research shows that most of us can concentrate for max of 90 minutes so that´s a good reason to have that timer!

Yep, I love calling it "Time Manglement", because that's what always happens.

I purchased the action machine a while back. I still have it installed on my desktop. I do not use it much anymore, however it still helps me when I want to focus one one specific task. Something about that big timer ticking away in front of me gets to focus.

It is a good tool. I don't use it much anymore because I just never bothered setting it up correctly. My life can very random. I have to wing it most of the time. One minute I am looking over my notes for a class and the next I am replying to emails for a service I provide online. Whatever fits in the time frame I have available in front of me is what I do.

Although thanks to this thread, I think I will give action machine another (bigger) chance. Maybe I will try to develop a system that will allow me to organize my time better. I'm sure it will help my new 2012 challenge.

Still hard to do it correctly, but:

    1. List your priority work, just short to 6-10 lists of your most important things.
    2. Rate from 1 to 10, 1 is the most priority you will spend time and do you think more important.
    3. To rate from No. 2: try to compare each list. The higher choose is the winner that mean No. 1.
    4. Set time each list from 30 minutes to hours just to make sure you are stick with the time to finish. If you over time, you know you are taken the time from other lists.
    5. Do it regularly to the next 21 days. You will get use to be if you do it.
    6. You can use timer to do No.4.

  • Well, nothing beats self-control and having a clear goal. I write in a piece of paper the specific tasks I gotta do through the week and I tick them off as I go. No need for facy time management tools.

Eddie Titan an I are on the same boat I have the action machine and I think it is a pretty sweet tool! It definitely does help when I have a day where stuff needs to be done quick.

But I mainly use the whiteboard that is right next to my desk and create a list of things to do... I find that I enjoy crossing out things I have done. It makes for a good sense of accomplishment

Interesting, it always seems that at the end of the day a good old pen and paper wins out over fancy pansy techno gadgets!!

I use a online timer (stopwatch with alarm), I set if for only 20mins, then force a 5 min break. in that 20 min, email is off, I leave the phone on but often say, I am busy, I will call you back in 15mins, then in that 5 mins, I open and download emails, GET UP, often I go over the 5 min break to be honest, I can't ast the 25 mins suggested, but 20 works great for me, the trick is to switch off EVERYTHING else, skype included for 20 mns and FORCE a break. Then enter the lock out again, works well for me.

learn rope nice idea, yes switching off emails and skype is essential, as someone always wants to talk to you or say hi, or ask a question which can put you off
