What are some of the WORST domain names you've ever bought?

Hi All!

I just let several really bad domain names expire in the last few weeks.

What do I mean by really bad?

They were so bad that I'm embarrassed that I ever thought they had potential. "What was I thinking!!?" was the first thing that came to mind when renewal time came around.

What are some of the worst domains you ever bought, and later regretted, and why did you think they were bad?

One of my worst?

Ohfiliate.com - you know, kind of like affiliate.com? Get it? Hmmmm, no one else did either.

Lesson learned - if you have to explain your domain name, its a stinker.

Maybe this can help others avoid the same kind of money wasting.

    Don't ask me why.

Was possibly my worst investment ever.

In terms of cost, if that's your worst investment, you're doing well!

I'm such a sucker for goofy domain names, that actually doesn't seem so bad to me, but I enjoy laughing a lot, sooooo....

I also bought several 7-10 year old domains at a "bargain", that promptly lost their age upon transfer. Suddenly, I didn't see a whole lot of value in them.

If the goofy domains are bringing you laughter and happiness, I guess they're probably worth it

Don't ask - I have no idea why I thought that was a good idea. It was a brain bubble moment.

I don't think domains should lose their age really, since people should go off the date it was first registered, it tends to be the better quality ones that get registered the most.

It is not someones fault if they buy a domain and it loses its age, and it is also not in the least bit fair. You have wonderful domains that have no value due to this and really bad ones that do, it is all a complete mess of a lottery.

I have not really bought any terrible domains for major money, but I tend to buy .info instead so can generally get the occasional stunner, like my purchase last week, hairdressing.info

I have some that do okay and some that don't. I buy them simply because the good .coms are gone.

Well I wanted to build a popular forum for internet marketers to share like any other forum, well........ cyber-cafe.com was definitely not a good choice in names.

I'm sure the blanks can be filled in on how that turned out

My first site name was "infomarketinguniverse.com". It had a notebook background and I was selling an ebook package.... with my bonus being 36 more ebooks lol. That site went to the crapper immediately.

I let so many crappy domains go that I'd be embarrassed to list them. Typical newbie stuff. I've learned my lesson since then. A lot of money wasted on bad domains.

They do not tend to do well in the search engines because no one bothers to link to them, Americans hate their own extension therefore it will always be hard to rank for...I do not live in America but I am guessing to find a business that actively uses it is as hard to find a corporate bank using .biz :p

That's my worst almost-buy, but I've never bought any domains I regretted.

I think the only non-keyworded domain I have is buzzylinks.com, and I use that one (among others) to test scripts, themes, etc etc. So thats the ugly one.

Oh and I have my name one too ahaha But thats a good one.

Long, long ago, I wanted a personal page and thought myplace.com sounded nice.
So I checked it's availability and it was taken.

I was upset and thought what else can I think of... so I thought hmmm, what about
myspace.com... and it was available... and then thought, nah... I don't need it!

    Duh!

Fa-ce-bo-ok.com had 560,000,000 monthly searches when I bought it. I was going to use it as an acronym for Free Always Creates Excitement By Offering Others Knowledge.

Then I got busy with the real world

Back in the 90's I was a Mortgage Banker. I bought:

      LendersClearinghouse.com

Then I realized I couldnt print my email address on my business cards because there wasnt enough space! lol

Lendersclearinghouse.com was the only domain I ever really regretted buying...but at least I made money with it so it wasnt so bad in the long run.

dumpthatad.co.uk I bought because I used to run a quirky offline advertising sheet called Dump That Ad and thought about putting it on the Internet.

Another was a domain with a spelling mistake. I used sterio instead of stereo and didn't realise for a month. I was annoyed with myself for a short time until I realised that it had worked out to be a profitable mistake.
