This is a thing that always bugged me.

There are hundreds of websites flipped every day. Many of them are newly created, only hours old, for example proxies, blogs, imagehosts and many different script websites (prchecker, ip lookup and more).

Obviously there is a demand for such websites, as i see many of them sold on DP. There are some people who seem to build a large network of these pages, but most buyers are different each time.

So my question is, where do all these buyers come from? Why do they buy such "junk" websites for $10-$50? What do they do with them?

Where do all the buyers come from?

    >book about VRE
    >book about buying and selling websites
    >ebay
    >book on IM that *mentions* VRE
    >forums for IMr's
    >classified ads
    >articles about making money on the internet,

    Why do they buy them?
    >book about VRE told them to
    >book about buying and selling websites told them to
    >the ebay listing sales copy said so
    >there's a whole forum dedicated to it, must be money in it
    >the classified ad said it was a profit producing business for sale
    >the article said it was a good way to make money

    >> Impress their friends
    >> Impress girls/guys

And IF they are a smart and savvy business person, they are buying a property that may already produce income which can be increased with a little bit of marketing effort, or it may have no income, but again, with a little bit of marketing effort, can be created.

It's kind of like buying an empty, run down, apartment compex. You need to go in and rehab it, but once you do, you can rent out space (ads, affiliate links, jv products, your own products, etc) and make an income from that space.

I've purchased in the past. I've largely avoided the cookie-cutter websites, but I have bought one or two of them. Here are some reasons...

    1) Domain name is valuable. Might be a good domain name. Might be an expired domain name that the site seller bought and put a site on, and so the domain may already have backlinks or traffic.

    2) Saves time. If the site is decently designed, it can save time setting something up. If you want to get something up in a hurry, you've got something already.

    3) Content. If the content is good, as in originally written content, it may be worth it just for the content. Of course, that's a rarity these days, since so many use PLR or have content that really isn't worth anything.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

    In simple answer:

    Buyers come from different niches
They buy it because the seller created the original work which the buyer should have done.

I sold out liveandworkabroad.com for $1,200 because the buyer needed it for such niche..

    I buy websites.

I buy sites that I have fun working on.

I also buy sites that are profitable.

I would assume that since you have a link to Sitepoint, you know more about the topic you're asking about than most.

To answer the question many people outsource, ad I view buying the right website as simply saving time by paying a little money.
