Okay I just confirmed again and it works, you cannot pay using Paypal.. since they will lose money on a 1$ transaction.. thats what I have been told but at least I got my domain

Didn't you hear? GoDaddy supports SOPA, an internet censorship law currently being worked on in the US. GoDaddy is being boycotted right now and a lot of people are moving their domains somewhere else. Among them Wikipedia, the Icanhazcheeseburger network and many many others.

Google "godaddy sopa domain move" for more information.

Don't support companies that threaten your livelihood.

Now that is smart business.

$1 domains are really a loss leader, they LOSE money by selling them in the hope you either upgrade or buy more full price domains.

So, if someone were really against SOPA, why not add extra insult to your boycott plans by making them lose money TODAY with a cheap domain, and then lose future money when you give you domain renew fees to someone else...

My take is that GoDaddy reversed their stance on SOPA and are now trying to make up for that debacle. I"m sure they are sorry now they ever supported that piece of crap SOPA - there are so many people against it.

Anways for a buck - it's pretty hard to beat. Yet the renewal of my 100's of domain names should be fun. =D

Yeah right.

And when you need to call someone who do you call? That's right they have no phone support. NONE.

And they don't even have a real address. They use a mail stop at Regus HQ... the same address used by dozens of other companies, anyone who wants to pay for a mailbox there can have one.

Kind of like buying a "rolex" from a street vendor.

No comparison. NameCheap isn't a real business.

NameCheap is a CRAP company.

Their entire marketing strategy is to badmouth GoDaddy. NameCheap stands for nothing they are just using SOPA as a ploy.

Namecheap doesn't even have a real street address... it's a mail stop.

Namecheap isn't even a real company. They are just a reseller for enom.

Namecheap doesn't have telephone support for anything.

This isn't about moving to namecheap, this is about going away from GoDaddy. There are plenty of other domain companies out there. How can a company that basically lives in the internet and breathes the internet help write and support a law that ultimately helps destroying everything the internet stands for? The funny thing is, GoDaddy itself is exempt from the effects of the law. What a coincidence.

  Actually you can get a .info at GoDaddy for 49 cents (+18 cents in fees) any day of the week! So if you could save a buck on that they would owe you money to take it!

Odd - from the title of the thread and the OP's post I could swear it was about a GoDaddy coupon code?

If you want threads about GoDaddy, Namecheap and SOPA I believe there are a few dozen currently running. Plenty of space to vent your "GoDaddy is the scum of the Earth" philosophies.

Regarding the politics of it, the way I see it a company like GoDaddy isn't making a profit on deeply discounted domains anyway, and I don't purchase any other services from them.
