Does video quality make a difference?

Most internet marketers these days understand the value of videos on a site. Whether it be video testimonials, product demonstrations, or any other type of video, it's a well-known fact that videos can really improve things.

I've seen varying degrees of video quality as I browse through different sites. Some have really impressed me, but I'd have to say the majority are pretty horrible. When I say "quality", I'm not talking about the content or the message of the video.....and I'm not necessarily talking about whether the video was shot using an HD camera or a webcam.

I'm talking about the actual production of the video. The vast majority of videos I've seen, which are meant to promote a product in some way, are nothing but people sitting in front of their computers talking about the product. Often times you'll see un-made beds behind them, or a cat that decides to walk into the shot. Is there any reason to say that these types of videos help at all?

I want to know if there is an advantage to having a well-produced video versus a poorly shot video on your site. My background is in video production, and it kills me to see some of these videos. I want to see videos worthy of a network television commercial!

Before you say, "Sure, that would be great if you had tons of money to spend on a video", I would argue that there are many ways to create a professional looking video without the need to spend a lot of money. I guess my main question is: Would the extra effort to make a great looking video really make a difference?

Being that I have the equipment, experience, and desire to create great looking videos, I've thought about producing professional quality videos for internet marketers to place on their websites. But again, I don't know if this is something that the market needs. If so, what would someone be willing to pay for a 2-minute promotional video of their product?

If any of you out there has any insight on whether a professional video will get more results than a crappy one, please let me know. And if there's anyone out there looking for a great video...I'm here for you!

Well surely a well directed video attracts more people. But more importantly your video should display your message or product.

If I see someone pitching me with a low quality video I immediately think unsuccessful and somewhat tacky. Especially for the simple fact that you can RENT pro equipment for a couple hundred bucks and if you are really successful you would have no trouble dropping a couple hundred...

that's my opinion though, I also think poorly designed sites are terrible but some people seem to not mind... or just have a terrible eye for good design.

Certainly, a video doesn't need to be ultra professional. But, if it is grainy and there are random environmental noises in it, it says, "cheap." The person who skimps on creating videos to that degree is not likely to take good care of my order.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

I like a good quality video most definitely, but I like it to be
natural and sincere and coming from the person who's product
it is. No actors, no hype and my pet peeve are those videos
where you have no control over anything, you are held to
ransom if you want to know the price, or get more information.

Thanks for your responses! I suppose there's a balance between projecting a very professional image, and providing quality content on the video. And if you have great content AND a professional look, then all the better.

I plan on doing some experimenting with this topic and seeing what I come up with. Maybe I'll do some high quality videos and some lower quality videos and start testing them out on my sites to see if it affects my sales. I'll keep everyone posted.

      Thanks again!
