First things first... Get a job, then spend all you extra time learning all you can, find one or two reputable mentors and follow EVERYTHING they say.

Not to many people will help for nothing, but I am willing to help in anyway I can.

Next thing to do is figure out what got you in this situation and never let it happen again

    Hi Alicia,

Just pick something that you've read about on the forum that interests you and then make a plan for it (eg post 10 articles a day for a month etc), then stick to that plan and don't read about anything that is unrelated to that plan.

The best way to earn money is to just get started doing something. You'll probably make mistakes along the way but you'll also learn what works and what doesn't. The worst thing you can do is not to take any action.

    Good luck,

    Anthony

I have a few tutorials on my personal blog in my signature link. You can check them out if you want to learn a little about building sites. I would be willing to answer any questions you may have.
What are you good at? What do you have a lot of knowledge in? Can you write?

    Alicia,

First, if you want to write some articles, PM me for some details.

Second- My personal cure for information overload is here.

Third, I'm going to do a live video training webinar next week, if you PM me, I'll give you a link to sign up. I'm going to ask for some 'volunteers' because I'm testing out how well the video and audio go, (there's going to be a chat room so you can ask questions) so there's no charge for it as I'm just 'testing' to see if it works.

    Alicia,

Your best 'start' was joining this forum, and yes it's almost too much information to handle at first, but this is a great mastermind group of people who can guide you in the right directions.

As for 'keywords to know'... I suggest you do your research and learn everything you can about the following (in no particular order):

    SEO & Website Traffic
    Backlinks or Link Building
    Blogging
Bum Marketing (Article Writing & submitting to ezinearticles.com & all the others)
    Niche Research
    Keyword Research https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
    Affiliate Marketing
How to Create Your Own Products (Infoproducts/software/ebooks/etc)

I know I am missing a ton of things, but those should give you a good start to a list of things you should be learning/researching.

Anyone else have any 'crucial' things I have surely missed?

      Alicia,

That's great that you want to start an online business! You have come to the right place for advice as there are many resources available here. You probably will want to get a regular job and start this out part time. Although online business are great to be in, they are not all get rich in 90 days as some may proclaim. Take your time and do things right and you'll find a great reward in the end. If I could offer any assistance or coaching, please let me know.

      Alicia,

If you can write and are looking to do that as a way to make some money, why not start a blog?

If you can't think of anything else to write about, you could always write about your current situation (in debt, no home, etc.) and document your online work experience for others. As you succeed (or fail), you'll be providing a ladder of sorts that other people like you can use to climb out of their own predicaments.

Take a look at Amy Bass' My Debt Free Goal to see what I mean. This website has helped a lot of people (including it's author) get out of some pretty massive debt. If you're willing to work as hard (and be as ingenuitive) as she has, you may be able to do the same.

In any case, as long as you do SOMETHING every day to make some cash, you'll find yourself in a better situation before you know it. Kudos to you on not giving up and asking for help when you needed it.

If you decide to start a WP blog, PM me. I'll host you for free for a year.

      Blessings and better times,
      RJ

    Hi Alicia,
I see a lot of good suggestions here. The suggestions that you get another job and continue setting your goals for an Internet business are the best. Regardless of the hype, creating a full blown Internet business from scratch overnight to pay your bills is a long shot at best. But I didn't see one suggestion that I've used when being in exactly your type of situation.

Try selling some stuff in online auctions like eBay or Overstock.com. It takes almost no investment to get started. It is a relatively safe place to improve the marketing skills that you will need for selling direct on your own. You can sell almost anything that interests you. I have sold things that I thought were completely useless for huge prices because someone out there collects them.

There are a few tricks though, so I suggest you start with an good eBay selling manual or course (there's a good one on my website, just follow the url in my signature below). You'll be selling online and have cash in your hand in less that a week using an online auction.

Lastly, if you're really strapped for cash and can't afford online auction listing fees. Try selling some stuff on craiglist.org. Listing there is free. Buyer traffic doesn't come any cheaper than that!

Hi Alicia, welcome to the forum. You must get an offline job to support yourself. Internet marketing is a minefield of traps and a slippery slope for those depending on using it to make money to dig themselves out of financial trouble.

Your best bet is to rent a room or something if you need to get away from your mum. Get a job doing anything, even packing shelves at the local supermarket. Build yourself some security and when that happens learn everything you can about IM before you venture into it. It can cost you heaps and the sharks are out there waiting to grab your few dollars off you.

    That's my best advice,

    God bless

    Norma
