How he makes over $3,000 a week online playing.

I thought some of you might appreciate a different approach to making money online.

I have a friend who plays an online game called League of Legends.

He is very good at the game and is ranked very high.

This is a free game, has been around for only 2 years, and has become very competitive.

Hundreds of thousands of people have started to play (mainly because it's free and an awesome game)

This friend started streaming his games on a site called Own3d.... While streaming the game he gives tips on how to play, has conversations with other friends who play (on skype), and is able to put up advertisements through own3d.

Once he started making money he created a website so people can easily watch him stream....Then allowed other people to put their streams on his site.

His site generates thousands of dollars a month just from visitors... Plus he makes over $3,000 a week from streaming on own3d.

I know a lot of people who stream on justintv and other sites and make a lot of money from sponsorship and advertisements.

There are hundreds of different games that people stream and make money from (as long of course as you have viewers)....

The sad fact is that you don't have to be great at a game to have viewers.. There is an ex-porn star who streams games.... (there is a feature where you can show yourself in the bottom right when streaming the game)... She gets tons of viewers.... People chat with her while she plays.

Anyway.. there are thousands of streamers around the world making money by just playing games. That is their job.

I hope this thread inspired somebody.

    Wow, neat!

I know of folks who make money writing gaming guides, but this idea is quite different and I can see how it would be most profitable indeed.

    Thanks for sharing!

This guy could EASILY double or triple his weekly earnings, simply by creating his own product....

Near the adverts, he could also link to a 15-30 eBook he personally wrote with all his "tips" and "secrets"....

I don't really think this niche works that way.
All the good players have guides which you can read for free.
I Don't think they could charge money for it because there aren't any 'secrets', its mainly about having a fast reaction speed and other stuff which you can't learn of a guide.

If a pro player were to create an e-book, some of his stream viewers would buy it. Then the viewers would feel scammed because the product is crap (it has to be, since there aren't any secrets).
The streamer would have made some fast bucks but in the long run he would only lose his money because he is left behind with alot less viewers.

        Nathan.

his online audience would decrease which greatly harms his income

Yep. And this proves the core concept of business in a nutshell.

I once attended a book marketing seminar hosted by Mark Victor Hansen, co-author of the outrageously successful Chicken Soup For The Soul books. Mark was talking about where success in business comes from. He said the #1 thing was this: Provide Massive Value.

That's exactly what your friend is doing. Nice.

I forgot to mention that he makes this money without people having to click on ads.. The ads just automatically play and he makes money every time he plays them.

Wow..wonder how long it would take me to learn how to play League of Legends (a game I have never heard of) and get as good as your friend.
On second thought, maybe I can hire people on Fiverr to play it for me

Anyway this is a creative idea. Thanks for the share!

As the OP said own3d and Justintv will pay you to stream your games. Just sign up and set the dispaly to your screen and play away.

It can be lucrative if you can get beta copies of upcoming games. Few people are streaming Diablo 3 right now and a lot of gamers want to see what it looks like.

Record your sessions and put good ones on YouTube with a link to your site that promotes your streaming. Game videos get crazy views on YouTube.

It is a good way to build a rep you can use to write and sell a guide.

I believe a while back there was a Warrior promoting an affiliate program for a MMORPG (massive mutliplayer online role playing game)

I didn't really pay much attention, but unless I'm wrong you didn't even have to know how to play... You could just go into gaming chat rooms and talk to people and tell them to check out the new game, and it would link them to someone who was playing.

I don't know what ever happened to it, but I remember wishing I wasn't already so busy.

I have done this. I use to stream gaming footage on twitchtv, which is part of justintv. I haven't done this in a while, been too busy with other things. I will be doing it again, soon.

Gamers love to watch other gameplay. I find myself on their for hours just watching people play their game. Gives you a chance to preview games and learn techinques.

The gaming market is huge and there are so many possibilities.

You thought of MySpace, I thought of Second Life. There was a girl who had bought up several islands and was developing and subdividing the virtual real estate. Her Second Life real estate was worth over $1,000,000 in USD, not Lindens (the currency on Second Life, I think), had she decided to cash out at the time I'd read about it. People would trade USD and other real world currencies in order to "live in" a certain Second Life location, and they had to pay rent. These people were buying their way converting real money into Second Life money in order to pay the rent.

Soundsa awesome - Games for Money, thats why i want out my day job to play games more

I did something like this to make money, but world of warcraft gold making videos on youtube, I started getting a few hundred views a day and monitized it with adsense on youtube, unfortunatly they pulled all my advertisements off and said i didnt have the copyright permissions to do so (Even though ToS of the game stated you could monitize content)... i guess a 3rd party website is ideal.

Great, great innovative way of generating cash. However, one must have the expertise of a gamer and should still market his self as somekind of legend in a particular game. Playing big tournaments could earn you some money, but taking people by the hand and guide them through the game is another ball-game.

Making money streaming League of Legends isn't as easy as it seems.
In order to make a solid income you would have to be a top 0.05% player orso.
Most of the streamers make only around 5$ hour by streaming (which are mainly pro players that go to tournaments).
Then there are around 10-15 popular people that constantly have about 5000-15000 people watching them, but they are exceptions.
If you want to make some real money with LoL you have to be very skilled, which means playing the game all day long for months.

Im currently a top 0.5% player trying to become better so i can make some money with it, but i wouldn't recommend you trying it since you have to be talented and practice atleast 5 hours per day.

However, if you enjoy the game, you should definitively try.

      Nathan.

      Sorry for my bad english.

Just like any other niche it takes hard work... I was only showing an example of what a friend does.
