Heres what I did....

1. Found a "hungry market" niche

2. Researched "buyer keywords" within said chosen market

3. Found an affiliate program in Commission Junction in chosen niche & signed up

4. Set up a free squeeze page for the affiliate offer at Squeeze Page Creator - Get Yours Now For Free! Model copy from other squeezes in the same niche

5. Set up a ppc program in Bing with those 10 keywords. $5-$10 daily budget to test the kws without losing ones shirt.

6. Wrote a 5 email sequence to the list. How to get copy? Simple model other successful IM'rs who's list you subscribe to.

7. Send the emails every other day. No sell on first one (educate only on topic within the niche), sell the affiliate product on middle 3, into next product within same niche on 5th email.

Rinse & Repeat....

I made my first $1,200 online selling an online press release and 2 reports
to go with it (this was many, many years ago).

It was for a real estate agent getting them to rank high (I think number 1 or
2) for the search term TOWN Real Estate Agent.

The reports were to help educate prospects on why they should list their home
for sale with them or why they should buy with them.

Generally speaking when you're starting out it costs a whole lot less and will
make you a whole lot more selling a service to someone who needs it.

Honestly I don't say your selling your time because that's the way all of us starting out, everyone in this industry have to sell their time, work very hard for first $100. Definitely you took big step forward from almost other marketers

I set up a history website that had low competition keywords. Got ranked super easy on Google because hardly no one was going for that niche, yet there were millions of searches per month. I put adsense on there and made money.. But then my Google adsense account got banned lol. It was a blessing in disguise really, I got really disheartened but in the end I moved onto bigger and brighter things. I still have that website, I now monetise it with Amazon and it still does quite well even though I haven't touched it in over a year

Hey, what a coincidence. It took me 2 years to earn my first money too, and I earned that through article writing. I've always been interested in writing, so it was just natural to me.

But now, I'm focusing on internet marketing.

Btw, congrats on your success. Now scale that up and you'll be earning a lot more than that in no time. Invest what you earn (at least 50% of your profits) back into your business; that's the fastest way to scale up without having to invest more money from your pocket.

It is another proof that, paid traffic at beginning is good indicator of success. Yes, later you can optimize your site for Google or try out other available free traffic sources like social media marketing, niche forums/blogs and etc to get more traffic and more sales..

I love to read through these threads. They make me nostalgic and the fact that I have been living off of online income for the past 7 years further intensifies my love for the IM world. My journey may not sound adventurous enough, but here it goes.

I am a journalist by profession. So, when I though I have had enough of listening to my Editor I decided to offer content writing services online. I haven't looked back since then and I don't plan too either. I have yet to get my feet wet in the "pure" IM world.

My first few dollars was when I tested out whether or not adsense actually worked. I used xSitepro to do x12 page website. Along the way I remember someone saying one keyword per page and at least 500 words per page. I wrote about childhood memoiries Stamp Collecting, Model trains, beach side family holidays, raved about my can do anything DIY friend tha sort of thing. End story I mailed it to my personal email list of friends (must have a list they say) I said hey come check out the wbsite that I just made up online. End story $33.00 in my Google adsense account. I was overjoyed and very excited. My next was leveraging a $27 script bought here as a WSO to build mobile websites. I only sold one but I sold it to an accountant for $500.00 again whoopee!!!! Now I'm trying out several other things online. I remeber being at an Internet Workshop hearing someone on stage saying firstly they had to prove to themselves if they could just make a dollar online, it was a beleiveabilty type of mindset thing that they had to personally overcome. Once they did actually make a dollar online, they though what if they could make $10.00 after that they just did whatever they did (secret here) and just kept up their efforts by continually setting the goal of adding an extra zero to their bottom line. So that's what I'm doing. $1.00 ++ tic $10.00 ++ tic $500.00 ++ tic and so on. (That my game plan at this stage. Tic)

How long did it take you to make your first dollar online and what attitude adjustment or mindset change was required before it happened?? I think this will be a good forum discussion for newbies who are struggling to make their first dollar. Just keep is short and sweet.

It took me over 7 years to start earning income. I started playing around with the internet back in 1995, when people considered aol as the internet since they were the most dominate ISP with dialup.

I was just playing around in my spare time. Not really serious. I didn't have any specific goals or a plan, just playing around throwing up websites and posting on forums to see what sticks.

I got serious around 2002. I established very specific goals and developed a detailed, step by step IM marketing and business development plan and took action. Now, I earn a significant IM income ..and I'm still part time while serving as a full time consultant to local small business owners.

So, the bottom line message here to newbies:

Establish your money goals and believe you can achieve them

Research and develop an IM plan to reach that goal. You can do most of your research right here on this warrior forum

Solidify the plan and EXECUTE.
