I am a newbie to the forum to be honest to any forum this is my first. I have been around a long time jumping in and out of IM but never really doing anything much mainly due to time constraints. I have built eCommerce site from knowing nothing to building it in 2 weeks for the wife with 200 physical products. Never again

I build websites for not for profits in my spare time but I use VA's to do this. I have a very large not for profit business which has nothing to do with the internet bar having a web site. But as with all not for profits when you retire its a card and a cake and that's it. Hence my own business that I am trying to build.

I am one of those that keeps picking up those shiny sparkly IM products that sell for hundreds of dollars and stick them on a shelf and tell myself I will get around to reading it NOT and believe me my shelves are pretty full.

What I am looking for is some advice I have a product which is software product for businesses and its a telecommunication product which I helped a company that had the technology but didn't know how to apply it to the market I work in. They made me there only reseller bar themselves for this product in the UK and its only available in the UK due to the high infrastructure cost to the company.

I have sold the product offline (its recurring monthly income) through word of mouth and I am looking to start putting it on the Web. I have the website still working on it but I am trying to figure out do I promote it through a blog our just use the web site or use the web site for both its on wordpress.

I guess what I am saying I need a strategy but where to start?

I would appreciate any advice and hopefully I will be able to reciprocate in some way in the future.
#start

The great thing about not having done anything at all is...

That you can start anywhere you want!

    1) Build a site.
    2) Write a squidoo lens
    3) Install google analytics on your site
    4) Apply for Amazon Associates
    5) Apply for Google AdSense (after you build your site only and make sure it's great-looking and offers content)
    6) Apply for CJ.com account for free
    7) Identify things you love (hobbies, music, writing?whatever?)
    8) Brainstorm on domain name address based on your hobbies
    9) Write 3 articles about the things you love the most about that thing, be spontaneous.
    10) Write 1 more article on how YOU do something, hell, it can be even about how you started your first website, or how you are going to make your first $100 online, and document the process.
    11) Post a few backlinks to your site with anchor text as keywords
    12) Add a signature to your Warrior forum account
    13) Learn a new skill, like drawing in photoshop, just fiddle around with anything.
    14) Create a Mailchimp account (free) and figure out how to place a newsletter subscription form on your site
    15) Ask friends to sign up to your Mailchimp form, create a first autoresponder, just for fun.
    16) Create a facebook page for your website
    17) Add Facebook comments to your website (pretty simple)
    18) Think about how you can develop creativity
    19) It's all about you and your growth
    20) Push yourself to learn new things and experiment
    21) Do things you dont think will work anyway
    22) As you experience, you grow, as you grow your business will grow alongside with you.

There isn't a start or an end to this process.

You experiment. Learn. Apply new knowledge. Do more.

When I work, I don't always know what I am going to do today. But I make sure to have fun doing it If I am not having fun or not working on what I want, I don't do it at all.

What IRIS said, but in general I'm going to say if somebody told me to make a step by step guide for marketing I would look at them as if they were crazy!

Marketing is a very wide WIDE TOPIC. Whether it be online, offline, selling ebooks, real books, products, marketing your WEBSITE, or product, making money, marketing affiliate links, CPA, .etc

This topic is just huge and there aren't steps but I reccomend you create your own software and sell it as software has a MUCH higher conversion rate than Ebooks usually!

I think IRIS has given you the best advice you are going to find on the forum. to start off use that as your strategy as you get to know the in and outs of all of those steps you will see what works better for you and in the meantime keep reading the threads. You will understd more of the information shared and start to apply other methods and continue growing.

      Good luck!

It is a software product and high end as the more its used the more I make. Presently I have only 6 customers and it generates about £15000 PA and I don't do anything and they bought it just from an initial contact in a meeting about something else I do in my day job. I actually haven't tried to sell it yet all I did was sign them up.

From the sound of it you do not know what you want to do long term. Am I correct in assuming this? Even if you have no clue on where to start its best you start a domain with your name to brand yourself.

You are going to need to pick a niche and then go deeper and select a sub niche. You will need to check by doing some keyword research if there are hungry buyers looking for the solution. Easiest way to do that is to check the keywords that are relevant for your sub niche and make sure there are ads there. Ads = money.

Once you have identified the sub niche area that you want to dive into you will need to create a valuable piece of content that you can give away as a incentive to make the first contact with your target audience.

You will need to research and find your target audiences needs and find the solutions. Next you will need some front end products that can help your target audience solve their problem. Go to Clickbank, Amazon, Commission Junction to start for finding affiliate products.

Go and get a auto responder and build a squeeze page to collect emails. You will need to build a list of targeted subscribers. Deliver value to that list and make sure you are not abusing the list by doing nothing but selling.

As far as traffic you can pick a variety of different ways. PPC, video marketing, article marketing, solo ads, etc. Just know that once you select a method you want to keep enhancing your skills to get better so you can become a expert in that area.

Keep building that list and communicating to that list by offering value. Every once in a while make a good product recommendation. Once you are making some money start with product creation.
