How To Sell Websites On Flippa?

Despite the newb question, I have actually been in IM for nearly 2 years now. However, I have a load of old websites lying around that I have no interest in anymore, so I'm going to sell them on Flippa.

There is currently only 1 up at the moment, and so far 2 people are bidding on it, which is good. I just wanted to double check the process for the site handover to the winning bidder.

Would they simply need the nameservers, and the wordpress login?

Ive never done anything like this before so forgive me for sounding stupid

Any info would be great.

Cheers,

- Richi

You will have to transfer ownership through the registrar that has the domain name. The process can vary a little, but there should be an FAQ section at your registrar's site that gives instructions.

Agree with Largo - every registrar has instructions on how to proceed. Also flippa has a safe option of holding up payments until the rights are transferred.

    Cheers guys.

Bit shocked. Just looked at that PDF and it looks like a massive process :S half the stuff on there I don't even understand.

    Oh dear.

Wil the buyer provide all his details for his Cpanel etc?

Again sorry for sounding like such a n00b

Ok so can I just double check what I need to do, as these auctions are ending tomorrow.

        1: Change website registrars
        2: Transfer WP blog
        ???

I think I can manage the WP transfer, as theres loads of detailed things online showing exactly how to do it.

But how do I go about changing the registrar? I really have no clue

Will they provide me with all their information that I need as well?

Well confused at the moment... :S

I was just wondering, are the sites making any money at all. Did you just give up on them?

No the sites that I'm selling currently have not made any money.

I wouldnt say I gave up on them, but I was less experienced when I set them up, and have just lost interest in them. I have some better sites that I wont sell, and I am constantly putting all my effort into those ones. One of them hit page 1 for its KW last night, so thats exciting.

However, I do know that people will pay for a ready made site, even if its not making any revenue (for some reason). I've put one of them up so far, which has already made me a profit, and its still got a week left.

It's not completely simple, where does your mail go, to the website or to you.
    What hosting has it.
Will you need a coder to move it because you don't know the database passwords and they are built in.
It won't be hard to figure out but the question is broad.
Usually you just transfer the name, transfer the site or ask the hosting company if they can take over.
change the mail if the mail is being forwarded ect.

If you haven't specified, you'll transfer it for the buyer, let them do it themselves if you're not sure what you're doing.

Just give them cpanel/FTP access to the site for X days.

Most decent hosts will offer a free transfer service as well, so your buyer can probably just use that.

I've never considered that option before. Thats a good idea.

The only thing that concerns me is that I have several websites registered in my cpanel. Is there i chance that they could 'steal' those ones as well as the one that they have bought?

Is there a way of securing my other sites?

The best way to let them install it is to just zip up the files and let them download the files. I wouldn't give them access to cpanel. Just go to file manager to the site in question in cpanel and click on Select All and then Choose Compress from the nav bar and zip them all up. Then use phpMyadmin to go to the database and export the database. Give them the database file and an url to download the zipped file and it is transferred.

I personally would set it up for them. You get far better feedback from customers if you do.

        Ok that sounds good.

When you say set it up for them; You mean set it up for them on their hosting?

How would I go about doing that?

Wow, I had always thought it was an easy process to transfer sites. This thread has given a of information.

So Im guessing the easiest way is to let them download all the files which you grab from your cpanel? In addition transfer the domain through the domain name registrar?

They will need to have an account at the registrar that the domain is in. That's free. Then you just "push" the domain to them. Very easy. Each registrar the process is slightly different. Just google push domain namecheap, or push domain godaddy or whatever registrar it is.

That's very easy as long as they know how to install it. Above I posted a pdf with instructions on how to install it. Give that to them to help them if they need it.

You need to upload the zip and the database to a location on your site ... say create a folder for it domain.com/temp/ and upload it there. Put the database in it's own zip first. Then give the customer the url to the files,
      say domain.com/temp/sitefiles.zip and domain.com/temp/database.zip

Don't do anything with the nameservers. Once you push the domain to them, they will change the nameservers to their own host. And just in case something happens, leave the site intact on your own server until it is up and running fine on theirs.

    1) Get the site ready to sell.
    2) Write a good flippa listing/title
    3) Pick how you want to list the site.. do you want upgrades or not?
    4) The good luck selling!

Ok I've sold 2 websites on Flippa yesterday. One of them is a domain registered with GoDaddy, so that should be simple to push over to him.

The other one however, is my main domain on my cpanel. and I have several add-on domains coming off it.

How would I go about pushing that over to my buyer?

That's tougher. You're going to have to contact your hosting support and see how to do that, since it's registered through your host and connected to your cpanel.

    Hey there,

We did a series of videos on how to transfer sites after you've sold them on Flippa that you can check out here:

Additionally, we have a post where we give away our absolute best tips for selling our types of AdSense-earning websites. Nothing held back:

Lastly, if you dig audio content, we did an interview with a guy for his podcast that was all about flipping websites. (These are tips/tricks for selling...not migration related issues) It's about an hour long, but I thought it was one of our best interviews yet...you can check it out here:

Sorry for reviving an old thread, I just have one more question

The client now has the website successfully loaded onto his cpanel, and I have made the arrangements on my cpanel ready to push my domain to him.

However, he has no idea what to do his end, in terms of registering the domain name.
And I dont know how to go about it either lol.

    Can anyone help?

I promise I'll stop asking qustions about Flippa after this
