Amazon Question

Hello and Happy New Year!

I have been doing research and found a keyword which appears to meet the criteria to go ahead and promote a particular Amazon product as an affiliate.

In the Google SERP's, it shows Amazon at the number one position. It has a page rank of 4 and 8 page backlinks.
None of the sites listed in the top 10 have EMD's.
Other sites have 5, 14 backlinks and their pages aren't optimized. I used Market Samurai to asses the above.

If Amazon is at the number one position on Google, would you still go ahead with trying to promote this product?
If Amazon shows results anywhere on the front page, would you go ahead with it?

The reason why I have bolded the word appears is because this particular keyword has 674,000 pages that use this phrase. IE placing the keyword into the Google search bar with "particular keyword" = 674,000 results. I may be wrong as I'm still a newbie, but looking at the competition, it doesn't look like it would be difficult to get on the front page and get traffic.

    I wouldn't do it unless I had a lot of tools to make this process easy. Xrumer, SENkuke, Traffic Geyser, Linkvana, Bookmarking demon, RSS bot, Scrapebox, Article marketing robot, etc. SEO is no joke. The experts are using all of these and outsourcing. If your site is a page rank 0 with no real ranking you will have a incredible difficulty getting anywhere near first page. Whats the phrase to broad match %?

      It really depends on the product and if there is any others promoting it. Do you see any other obvious strikes on this keyword/product on the first page?

      There are always people who will pop in and say that if Amazon holds the top positions for the item, they feel like it's pretty easy (provided there is not a lot of competition beneath it.) I am assuming that Amazon doesn't have the time/man power to SEO every product that they sell. That would just be insane.

      I have outranked Amazon before and it wasn't terribly hard. But as said, you really need a strong SEO assault. You can't just throw up a blog and hope for the best.

      Phrase to broad match is 45%.

        I'm probably considered a newbie but don't forget EXACT match in google keyword tool.

        My first site is still #1 on Google and I concentrated on getting close to 1000 monthly local with EXACT.

            EMD stands for EXACT MATCH DOMAIN which means your domain name would match the exact name of the product you are promoting.

            Broad relates to the Google keyword tool where you can eihter have Broad results show which is a keyword search showing results for all words in the keyword phrase as compared to EXACT which will show results for the exact keyword phrase only.

    My view on this is the following, If I see Amazon in top spot i know I can knock them off top spot pretty easily and based on what you have indicated above I would certainly go ahead and give it a shot.

    I have many sites in #1 position with page rank O and its certainly not hard to get to page 1 with a page O domain, make sure your on page SEO is spot on and once its indexed see where you come in and then depending on that start the backlinking.
