Should I delete my content?

A piece of advice or opinion please...

I currently have a website that was set up as an autoblog. The website was doing pretty good with traffic... but the content wasn't focusing on the type of "site" that I really wanted the website to be. The content was more focused to an "advanced" and more professional type user. I want to gear my content to a "newbie to intermediate" type of user. I have dropped the autoblog features, and I am going to start writing my own content.

Here is my question... The site has been up for about a year. Should I delete the current content, and start over to try to attract the users that I want? Or should I leave the current content as is, and just totally change my focus. I understand that I will likely lose more than half of my readers... but the "income" wasn't there anyway... so I'm not worried about that factor.

Any advice or suggestions would be welcomed. Thnx..

Keep the content for SEO purposes. Are you building a list on your site?

I forgot to mention that... I WASN"T building a list. That was the other reason why I wasn't afraid to start over. The site was primarily just an adsense site.

But I'm changing that.... building a list and promoting affiliate products instead of adsense

I would just separate the posts with tags or categories to differentiate the different levels. If you delete the content you will loose readers, rankings etc.

  • In this case, it comes down to your site's persona. The question I would ask is, if a newbie started searching the site and finding advanced topics, would it cause them to leave?

For SEO purposes, keeping the content would be a good idea, but it does no good if it is causing users to bounce. I think your answer to the above question will tell you what to do.

Reember, websites arent built to rank well in search engines. They are built to attract and RETAIN human visitors. Spiders dont pay your bills, humans do.
