Adsense - Right or Left Side

Good day,

I have a question, is it better to play Adsense on the left side of the content like this website:

Pool Care and Pool Maintenance

Or is it better to place Adsense on the right of the content like this website:

South African Franchise Information

Any comments and feedback will be highly appreciated.

This is a good question which many people just overlook and or copy what others are doing. The truth is, you need to test the crap out of it to figure out what is best for "your site". Just because someone has an ad placement in a certain area on their website doesn't mean it will work on yours.

To answer your question though... I would say the best luck I have had is with a 336Ã--280 ad right above the post or right at the top with text wrapped around it. Another one I like is the 728Ã--90 leaderboard right above the text. Through a good number of impression at them (I use 500) and test the next one. Just make sure to give each one a uniform number of impressions.

Also, don't make the mistake others do and put a whole boat load of other ads on your site. This is the biggest mistake I see with Adsense sites. Its all about the testing.

Generally speaking, I think the left side is better (as with the south african franchise site).

There's been some browser heatmap studies that show that that ads on the left get a higher click-through-rate with rapidly diminishing eyeballs/clicks the further right you scroll - Which does kind of does make sense since we read from left to right.

Top left and very top of page

Google heatmaps say that top left is the most looked at part of the page, so it's a good idea to put it there. However if you want to maximise the clicks you get through then it is best to make the ads look like part of your site and integrated into your menu.

Top left side link unit and 250x250 above the first post of my blog is the best performing adsense ad from my experience. However you still need to split test them which are the best for your style and niche.

      Good luck.

Some people say the right hand side is better because this is close to the scroll bar on the right - i.e short distance to move to the ads.

Flows naturally to the ads on the right hand side.

Also, a lot of left hand users also use the mouse on the same side as right hand users.

However - testing it yourself will certainly answer your question.

You'll need to test it and track the best adsense position for you...
