Question about spammy email from "Warrior Forum" about WSO!

Hi all,
Just wondering what to make of this e-mail I got today. It is very spammy, to say the least, but borderlines something more unethical regarding Warrior Forum admin.

It says it is from Warrior Forum admin, but the links are cloaked and it leads to a WSO from Nov. 19 from someone with only 5 posts.

I just wanted some of you senior members to take a look and tell me if this is against some sort of TOS here.

The actual text of the email is in red. My notes are in black within.

It's clearly not a legitimate email. Report it to the help desk and the mods will look into it.

    Di

P.S. I would also drop a PM to the owners of that WSO letting them know what happened.

That mail is not "spammy" - it is SPAM.

And as you figured it out: it has nothing to do with WF admin or this forum at all.
Somebody is just abusing the name of this forum...

I suggest you contact the helpdesk (link on the top menu) and report the mail with the headers and the real links (to the wso). Want to bet it will disappear?

I suspect you are correct Diana.

If anything this should serve as a lesson to not just automatically approve every affiliate who wants to promote your WSO.

      Happy New Year

There are "rumors" from FTC saying the seller is responsible for their affiliates... Don't remember the exact rules but those affected should search and read.

EDIT. Actually, I have the name and address, phone etc. of the person who has registered the domain from where the spam email comes

If this is an affiliate problem - shouldn't the complaint go to WarriorPlus?

In this case, with the affiliate ID - I would contact the WSO seller and let him know how his product is being marketed. He chooses his affiliates - and he's responsible for what they do.

What scummy and deceptive 'marketing' tactics.

After doing a WHOIS search on the domain and a search
on the Warrior Forum, it appears that it's a fellow 'Warrior'

So - rule #1 for the forum only counts when we want it to?

This is an affiliate program problem - and WarriorPlus and the seller should address it. It is not a forum problem.

I recently saw a comment by someone here about how he chooses only WSOs on lists that are "recommended by the WF". Not one of those lists is connected to this forum - they are all affiliate promotion "recommendations".

Depending on personal views, the affiliate program has either done much to enhance the power of WSOs - or has polluted the pond.

If Clickbank is doing the payment processing I would report the affiliate to CB also. They don't screw around these days and their fraud department will whack the account pretty quick. I assume that this person didn't have permission to email you so he's spamming... plain and simple and I believe that spamming is against the TOS for most affiliate programs including CB.

It's just depressing - and distressing - that people are stupid enough to do this kind of thing.

And then people wonder why "internet marketers", collectively, tend to have a bad name and reputation ...

            Hi, Kay

Not to contradict, but since it was using a FROM email address cloaked to look like it came from the Warrior Forum Admin, and also a subject line that presumed the same, I assumed it was both.
That is the reason I felt it needed to be addressed here.
Admin has already gotten the details from me and I assume they are working on it.

            Thanks to all,

Kay: This product was not promoted through WarriorPlus. The affiliate information is processed through ClickBank.

You assumed correctly. The spam part is relevant to the affiliate systems involved. The misrepresentation of the origin of the mail makes it a forum issue.

              Kay,
So - rule #1 for the forum only counts when we want it to?
If I were certain of the sender's identity, I would have no problem with outing them publicly in this situation. Unfortunately, that can be difficult in some cases.

For example, there was a period of a few months when a bored twit in Malaysia was sending spam for pirated products to lists of Warrior members with my name and email address in the messages. That's a fairly simple forgery. Adding someone else's links to a message in an effort to discredit them wouldn't be much more work. A few minutes at most. More likely a few seconds.

If one of you who got this spam would be kind enough to PM me the full headers, including all Received: lines, I might be able to get a more conclusive picture of the source.

And, by all means, everyone who got it should send a note to (abuse at clickbank dot com) with a copy of the message, including headers. They take affiliate spamming quite seriously.

It the vendor's problem, but since the email claimed to be from WF admin, and if I'm not mistaken, used their software to send the message to members, the admin should be notified. They have a lot of info on scammers that we don't have access to and at some points of a particular scammer's game, Allen might just decide he wants to initiate action against them or confront a vendor who produces repeat problem affiliates.

It clearly is spam. Admin would certainly not have spelling mistakes in an email like this, nor would he recommend a specific WSO to warriors. Please file a ticket in the help desk who will deal with this culprit.
