Now, this is BEFORE I even found this forum and have yet to apply anything that I have learned from this forum or any WSO's that I've read. However, I am now starting to apply what I'm learning from this forum starting this month. Total earnings are through various affiliate programs, Google Adsense, and Amazon.
Earnings For December 2011
My blog received a fairly good amount of traffic for a new blog. According to Google Analytics, my blog received 9,993 visits and 17,433 pageviews with the online time being an average of 2:26. At looking at the review of my traffic stats, 77.06% came from referral traffic.
What I've Learned
Sharing is Caring - My blog is focused around coupons, freebies and deals online/offline. At the end of November, I found several high PR websites that would let you "Submit a Deal." What I would do is right after I found a good deal or coupon scenario (sometimes from other sites) I'd post it on my blog, and then submit the deal to the other blogger. If they get the deal from me first, they will post my deal and give a shout out to my website AND link back to my website where I originally mentioned the deal. I've been mentioned several times on a PR5 website just for doing this. On top of that, most other frugal bloggers will copy/paste the deal they see and give me a thank you shout out as well. I can easily get up to 10 link backs or more from being mentioned on that one PR5 blog. Also, the bonus is FREE traffic.
People Love Freebies - A lot of people don't realize you can download a lot of FREE Mp3's or FREE ebooks on Amazon and this typically works to my advantage. I'll set up a post with freebies they can receive at Amazon, and of course, if they use my link and buy something I get the credit.
People Love To Save Money - I've found several steep savings (50-90%) on Amazon, or even from other blogs that found deals on their. I'll post the deal to my website with an image, a quick blurb, and sometimes more information. If I'm on Facebook, I'll also post it a few times if it's a good deal. That way, they click on my link to check it out. They had a discount on a $99 camera for under $6 and I posted it on my Facebook and mentioned that it could be an error on Amazon but to try it out anyways. The next day, I had over 124 items ordered! Granted, it did end up being an error and all those orders cancelled but out of those 124 I atleast did get 1 conversation. What makes me laugh is about 90% or more of the conversations on Amazon were items I never mentioned, and were all full price! My first post about an Amazon deal was on a HDTV that was reduced price. For my first post and my first sale, I ended up making $10!
People Love Contests - In November, I was really trying to up my Facebook fans. I noticed that a lot of other new frugal bloggers were getting fans insanely fast. What changed everything for me was when another frugal blogger said to me, "People love contests. Sometimes, you'll lose fans if you don't have any." From there, I noticed that pretty much ALL the frugal bloggers have some sort of contest going on either monthly, weekly, or even daily. What I ended up doing was connecting with other frugal bloggers and hopped in on there contests where entrance is having to join each bloggers Facebook page. Entries are then tracked using Raffle Copter, so then they HAVE TO join your page. I've also started my own weekly contest series called, "Weekend of Winnings" where from Fri-Sun anyone can enter to win prizes in a contest. I have simple step by step instructions on how to enter, which typically involves needing to sign up for my newsletter, becoming a Facebook fan, and writing a comment in the post answering a question I ask in the post. Right now, I have 1665 Facebook Fans and 1206 Twitter Followers.
Learn From Other Bloggers - Being that Frugal Blogging is big right now, I'm a fan or newsletter subscriber to many of them before I made my own blog. By seeing what they're doing, I was able to better adjust what I'm doing to make things better. Example, including contests, adding Amazon deals, etc.
People Can Relate - Because I'm on unemployment and still haven't found a job, that is what I'm noticed "hits home" with several of the readers. I'm a "real" person running a "real" site that initially started to help me find ways to save money while on unemployment.
I'm Solving A Problem - In this day and age, people want or need to save money. That's how I got started using coupons and searching for freebies.
The Money Is In The List - I kept reading this over and over again when I started. I have always been interested in IM, but never knew much about it. But what I did know and remember from reading things on and off over the last few years was how important it was to have a newsletter service. After a few comparisons, I opted for Aweber. I joined in November right in the beginning of my blogs traffic increase. I also started setting up auto posts on such things as, "How To Make Money On Swagbucks" etc. I also offer what I call daily hot deal alerts where I will email out deals that won't last long, which are typically Amazon deals.
Experiment, Experiment, Experiment - Originally, I didn't have Google Adsense on my blog. I asked the designer in mid-December to ad it between my posts just to see if I made anything. Overall, I made $11.92 since the middle of the month with Adsense. If I were to add more to the blog, I could probably make more. Also, I was using Infolinks for intextual advertising. When I went to a few other frugal bloggers websites, I noticed they used a different service called IntentClick and opted to join them instead. Infolinks is not targeted like I wanted, while IntentClick is focused on Frugal bloggers. On top of that, if anyone buys something by clicking through my IntentClick link then I get a commission from it that will later show up in my account. On top of that, I only needed 1000 USA users per month to visit my website, and the website must be dedicated to saving money or better income. In the beginning, I never even used Amazon Associates. I had an affiliate account, but I never thought I'd make money with it. But since I noticed all the other frugal bloggers used them, I thought that they must be making money with them. I'm soooo glad I started adding their deals, because most of my blogs income from December came from Amazon specifically.
What I'll Be Doing Differently This Month
Keywords - Since I'm learning about keywords and researching into keywords, I have changed the style of how I post. Instead of just posting a deal as the blog title, I'll title the post, "Amazon Deal: ________." I try to get some keywords in the posting. I still have a lot to learn in regards to keywords, but I'm trying to narrow down a few so I can get some ranking.
Plugins - Since I've read a few WSO's and joined the War Room, I found a rather impressive list of plugin's I decided to add to my blog. I'm sure most of the more experience Warrior Member's know them, but I was unaware since I am a newbie. Some of those plugins include CBNET Ping Optimizer, All in One SEO Pack, Google XML Sitemaps and more.
Ping My Blog - I didn't realize anything about "pinging" or indexing or none of that. Right now, I will be pinging every post I write. Some plugins I have do it automatically, but I read a good eBook that helped me with this. Although the WSO was more on Adsense, it did have other information I was unaware of and ended up being one of the best WSO's I've read yet.
Backlinking - I still need to learn more about backlinking, but I'd like to set time up to sit down and comment on high PR dofollow blogs that will help my blog out. I'm sure I'll pay to have some done, but again, I need to do some keyword research first.
Work On More Blogs - Since finding this website, I discovered a whole new world! I wish I would have found this website years ago. Right now, I've bought a few domain names and I'm focusing on creating content for them. Unlike many others that want to write a few articles and be done with it, I have a plan to schedule myself time to update weekly once I have about 12 articles written. Right now, I have 5-6 blogs in mind that I'm working on but I'm concentrating on one at a time until they hit a few keywords. I'm sure at some point I'll stop posting. I'm working more towards micro niche blogs with Amazon/Adsense as the form of income, and maybe add more later on. My aim is to hit $3k a month sometime this year. Although it may be a stretch for a newbie, I think it's doable with hard work and dedication. I just need to learn more!
Well I hope someone found this post useful! Like I said before, I'm still a IM newbie. My main blog had no sort of IM or anything. If I would have known about IM before, I'm sure I would have set things up differently but it just proves that it can be done even without the slightest clue with IM.
