second doubts :/ after a phone call to Amazon associates

Hey Warriors,

I know this is the last thing you guys want to hear and the last thing that I want to think about but I DID.. here is the story

I decided to create an Amazon products review website, I don't believe in the 5-20 pages sites, so I decided to review a whole niche that has more than 200+ products, I have seen alot of stories about Marketers doing well with Amazon, I got a premium domain, examplereview.com. I started by building the website and researching the keywords, I got good keywords and I did a research using Market Samurai, everything is great and I can enter this niche, the products are 90$+ , since I am the worst writer I decided to hire a writer, the writer disappeared before completing anything.

Now to get someone to write 200+ reviews, each review is around 1000 words that will cost alot, around 10$ per article, we are talking around 2000$, I am okay with that since it will be high quality content and gives a great value.

[Sorry guys, I had to remove this part for a reason ]

After that I started doubting my approach and if I should really spend the money.. I have seen alot of posts that show a huge income from Amazon but after looking more into it I got kind of pushed back..this is the first time I am serious about something and I really have a plan that I want to stick to..

I am not posting this to doubt anybody's post, please do not take that personal, I am not accusing anyone of posting fake reports , I am just worried and would like to hear from you guys since I really trust your opinion and I get my inspiration from this forum.

Thanks and my apologizes in advance if someone got insulted.

    You know what Zaco?

Yes it is extremely difficult to make a lot of money through their affiliate program through review sites.

But I personally know someone that is generating over 1 million dollars in revenue sales every month. About 45,000$ in advertising earnings EVERY month.

You want to know the secret? GOOGLE ADWORDS.

After spending all year in 2011 (my first year in IM) learning the ropes of the amazon associates program, figuring out what works/what doesn't etc and seeing the results for myself I'd be shocked if there weren't people making a lot more than 5k a month.

I'm sure a lot of marketers do fake their screenshots. But I'm also sure there are a lot of people making big money with amazon who don't actually care about the IM niche at all.

That's an impressive sum. How much of that is profit?

Have they taught you how to do it? I thought the cost of clicks on AdWords is too high to make a profit plus they have very strict guidelines also to make it harder.

Running "revenue" is not profit. AdWords is expensive.

And he generates $1M and they are nice enough to let him keep $45K? Ouch...

Hi, Nio93. Is your friend a member of Warrior Forum? Is he/she teaching you? I have asked this question, specifically, on WF and was told that PPC-to-Amazon just isn't worth it due to the low commissions and high advertising costs. Maybe the big earners just want to keep this a secret? SPEAK UP, PPC/AMAZON AFFILIATES! TELL US THE TRUTH!

    Hi,

The best advice I can give you is Start Small.

Take the best 20 keywords and outsource. Build a mini site. Build links and drive traffic. See what happens. If everything is right(keywords, way you write review etc), you make consistent money. Now you can expand your site by adding more content every week.

    Hope it helps

    Hey Nio,

I am not looking for alot of money, but at least 3000+ for the amount that I am investing, I know it doesn't happen in one night.. I am giving it a year. For Adwords.. you are not allowed to advertise the products you are reviewing I think, when I read their TOS, I think they mentioned you cannot use PPC to drive sales..

LOL.. that is not good news.. I don't want to say Marketers are faking the screenshots but I got discouraged by what I have been told on the phone..

Did you rank for the keywords that you were targeting?

Yeah, it would be nice if everyone was honest about their earnings but the anonymous nature of this business makes it a great place for scam artists. I know of some Amazon affiliates who have made claims of big earnings that seem completely legit.

Check out Paula and Wanda's website. A while ago some people claimed they were scamming and they responded by showing a video of them opening their amazon cheque. Because of this they generally don't disclose their monthly earnings any more though.

As for my sites... Yes, my main site is now ranked on page 1 for all 3 of my main keywords and quite a few long tails.

I made a lot of mistakes in my first year including... not knowing which keywords to target, erratic backlinking which got my main site sandboxed a couple of times, building a site around keywords with far too little traffic, getting my poorly secured sites hacked etc etc but towards the end of the year my hard work started to pay off and I actually feel like I have a great grasp of the whole process from keyword research through to getting the sites ranked.

2011 was my learning year. I'm starting 2012 with an arsenal of knowledge and a nice passive income that I can use to scale up my business.

The problem with Amazon review websites are the low affiliate commissions. You usually only get 5% or less commission per sale which is intensively low. Usually in the Amazon niche you sell high ticket products averaging $100-$500 and per large sale you'll only get a few bucks.

I have been an Amazon affiliate before and generated large, targeted traffic to my website as well as had a high converting website, but I didn't generate a lot of money. I had a conversion rate of 2% for averaged $200 products and got 4% commission per sale. Unfortunately, it wasn't a lot. I only got about $32 per day which was incredibly low compared to all the SEO I was doing, fresh content I was writing and other expenses. I ended up selling my website for some nice figures but decided to completely leave the Amazon industry and move onto the e-commerce industry. It was much more profitable because I got products at wholesale prices and sold them at retail prices and was making an average of 30% per sale. I still find that the e-commerce industry is way more profitable than Amazon.

That is a nice looking payday for sure! I have made some money from Amazon but nothing even remotely close to that. Definitely something I'd love to strive to get to though.

Very Nice, I've made a few bucks off Amazon, you obviously have to sell a lot to make a lot. I mean this person generated almost one million in sales and made $43k. I can't even imagine how it was done or with what product line but I'd be happy with $43k in 2 months even if it meant spending 5k in ads. I've tried free methods of making money via Amazon and so far have not been extremely successful but have made money. I do like that Amazon will pay you a commission on products that people purchase even if they don't purchase what you were advertising. So there is money to be made even if they buy something else.

I would do like the others are saying make the site look professional put up some products and then immediately start driving targeted traffic. Find out if the traffic is converting to sales then scale up from there. Google Adwords and FB Ads are good places to start.

AZ is a great Kindergarten. You can start your online caree there...little investment...add some adSense...selll some product and you will have a positive attitude at the end of the day. Sure....their commiss starts at a measly 4% but it grows fairly quickly from there. There is no place better to start...safe and warm.

I think the point of the post is to say that even Amazon employees are saying people don't make more than $5,000 monthly. Maybe they just haven't seen it or they are lying, but I somehow doubt that either of those would be likely. Wonder where all the big earners are and why almost everyone who sells a product on this topic claims to earn 6 figures, lol!

Why would someone fake their screenshots tho? to sell a book? I don't think so.. most of the screenshots I have seen are for people who don't sell anything related to the Amazon affiliation niche..

Making $5,000 a month is a big amount. Those who make that or more are in the top of the affiliate game. That means they are perhaps the top .1% of all affiliates.

Remember, there are many millions of affiliate sites for these people working at amazon. Most don't make any money. In fact, most probably put up a website and don't even generate any clicks to the Amazon program. I would even venture that most sign up for an affiliate account and never do anything else.

To make any money at ALL on Amazon will put you in the top 2%.

That doesn't mean it is impossible, it just means most people never try or give up.

The question is, are you willing to put in the blood, sweat and tears that it will take to be in the TOP tier of Amazon affiliates?

The problem is people think IM is a quick way to fast cash. It isn't, at least most of the time. If you're prepared to do the work and don't give up you can build a full time business out of it but most people don't get that far.

The only way you can get a real answer to your question is to try it in practice and see for yourself. As someone else said, start small. I used a particular Amazon method (the conduit method) just as a little test, only about 20 posts, and was surprised by the income, so learned more and expanded.

Some products will make you money, some won't, and it's not always easy to guess beforehand which are which, so try a wide range of products, then do more of whatever works.

I know you say you are the "worst writer", but all you need to do is to write in the same way you wrote your question here. You don't need to be writing sales copy at all for Amazon reviews, good plain honesty will beat hype in this area. What you DO need to do is to give some real value in your reviews . . . look at all the alternatives and compare point by point why someone would choose one not the other, read ALL the reviews of the product, both on Amazon, and off, and sumarise that for the reader. What you are doing for them is saving them time, and clarifying things they might not understand. So either pick product areas you know something about, and/or do your research. It is surprising how many reviews on amazon will make the same mistake and write something which is nonsense, proving they didn't bother to take a few seconds and look up the real facts on Wikipedia or whatever, so that is what you are doing for them, the real research that they haven't got the time or the ability to do.

Your aim is to be the LAST review on the product, that they read, then it's your affiliate code that goes through with the sale. So tell them everything they might not need to know. This doesn't need a "great writer" or a salesman, that needs someone who can think clearly, and take the time to do the research and explain the results clearly.

Start small, see what works, keep learning (about everything relevant, such as backlinking, on-page-SEO etc.) and improving, and there is definitely good money to be made from Amazon!
