Help - I Need A New Hosting Company

I've been using a reseller hosting account from Midphase for some time, it used to be good and reliable, but for the last few months it has been very bad, I'm reluctant to switch but I think it has to be done, I already have a Hostgator account which is very good but need another host so I can cross link sites on different class C IP address's

What do you recomend?
#company #host #hostgator #hosting #midphase #reseller

I have had good success with Hostmonster. However, Hostmonster is not great for a reseller account if that's what you're looking for.

Actually I'm pretty sure a Hostgator reseller account won't give you separate IPs (I asked them once a long time ago). But Hostgator does have a different division, called seohosting.com, that does. I believe the smallest pkg is 5 Class-C blocks for not much more than you would pay for a reseller acct at Hostgator. Same great service and support.

What I 'always' do before I chose to work with a company that is going to be critical to my online business is CALL their Tech Support Number (a few times) and see how quickly and adequately they take care of you? When you need help you need it NOW, not leave us a message stuff...

      Bluehost - 888-401-HOST

      Hotgator - 866-96-GATOR

I've been using Bluehost and their support is great (even @ Friday 5PM) Another thing to check is their cPanel features. I know Bluehost provides one click WP 2.7 install and auto database (MySQL) creation, which was a key selling point for me, since both of my domains have a WP Blog connected to the home page.
      1. Your Bluehost link looks funny - it is a "TinyURL" thing, not a straight link. I believe it is in fact a CLOAKED AFFILIATE LINK. I suggest you remove that.

      2. Every host that uses cPanel will offer "one click WP 2.7 install and auto database (MySQL) creation" - it is part of the Fantastico feature which seems always included with the cPanel interface.

I've been using Hostbreak for a few years now and have had no issues. Good 24x7 support for how inexpensive they are. Plus, $15/mon for reseller with 15 domains.

Be very, very careful to make frequent backups, if you go with Bluehost or Hostmonster (same company, different brands) ... their internal server backup system has been unreliable for a long time, and the company owner has come out and flat stated that their shared servers are not being backed up. If there is a server-wide exploit or drive failure, and your data is lost, it's gone .......... so make sure you make and download frequent backups to your PC !!!

For more information about this, it's been widely documented and discussed at WebHostingTalk.

Always, always run your prospective host through the Search feature at WebHostingTalk; look at threads going back at least 6-9 months so you can get a handle on their real track record & support history. Any less than that, and you're really not getting a representative sample of what's going on with the company.

I've had lots of troubles with Kiosk as well. They seem like they are trying hard, but they moved to a new data center and totally messed me up. It seems like I have to watch my sites like a hawk or they are down.

1and1 has a horrible track record, as reported at Web Hosting Talk ... please be sure to run any prospective hosting company through the Search feature at WHT!! You will likely find some hair-raising reports about a number of hosts that are often mentioned here at the WF.

      Buyer beware!!! Do your research!!

I know I keep saying this, but it's that important. If you don't research your host, you might as well just throw your money out the window.

Pair Networks is pretty cool for dedicated IP address per domain

For SEO purposes/domain strategy, I have a few diff. hosting accounts (hostgator, dreamhost, bluehost and some smaller hosting co's in Canada)

I wouldn't recommend godaddy - one little complaint from one of your list members and bam, you could lose your site - not worth it!

    Good luck with your decision!

I used godaddy for years but seemed to periodically have email problems...both in and out. Since I was in the real estate biz it was critical and I never knew what leads I was losing. They did not offer proper support on the issue and even after I sent proof of bouncebacks (often there weren't any) they didn't deal with it. They are easy to use though because of the domain registration feature. Now I use Hostgator and find them really good, cheap and offer great support. Domain reg is a bit fiddly but the support makes up for it.

I use Nuvo Host dot com for both my sites. Never have any trouble with them. They are by far the cheapest I've seen too. Packages start at $.99 to reseller at $7.99 a month.
Also there is no affiliate program so your not paying for that!

The tale continues, I noticed that in my midphase accounts the awstats were not working, I submitted a support ticket only to be told that this was now a paid feature and to contact billing, awstats is in the fantastico package so it should be free!, it's free and works great in my Hostgator account, yes, midphase really does suck!

Yes, I have used them and they are good - as good as the parent company. Very costly though, those different C-class IPs cost like $5+ per C-class.

not yet, I'm still working on it, I sent a well worded email to midphase and got a 1 month refund as their up time last month was 99.2% and they guarantee 99.9% per month or it's free, they also decided to throw in "free" awstats, the sites are working fine now and I've got some paid hosting time to run yet so I'm not in a hurry at the moment to migrate, lets see how it goes the next week

I just moved from Kiosk to Hostnine - you can actually pick where to host your sites, so you can spread your sites across different data centers. The reseller back admin is really nice too - and so far anyway - support has been amazing - never more than 15 minutes for a response time.

I tried to hang on with Kiosk because I had so many sites there - but after my sites being down intermittently for 4 days - and I was just getting responses like 'you must have used the wrong password, that's why you can't see your site' when I was clearly explaining that we could not access the sites on ANY of the computers in the office - and neither could my clients....I just gave up.

I think they need to start focusing on training their support staff to actually try and figure out the issues rather than simply respond with a canned answer.....

I really did not want to move - have 60+ sites there - but I couldn't deal with them anymore....

Wilson - I don't need to know more about Kiosk - I have been with them TWICE now, and this last time was for a couple of years.

The problem was not that the support was not FAST - they simply have not actually been reading the support tickets. They have simply been responding with a 'canned' answer that had nothing to do with the actual issue.

HOWEVER: I received an email last night regarding my comments here about Kiosk from Joel Therien, the founder/owner of Kiosk, and I will be the first to admit that having such an involved owner definitely rates high with me as a fellow entrepreneur.

Before you write it off as a one off canned msg to impress a little customer - I responded in detail with my take on the situation - and darn if he didn't respond and ask if we could talk by phone today.

Does this mean the situation is now perfect? No - but I've been self employed for longer than some people here have been on the planet - and when you see this level of responsibility and involvement by a company's CEO, it generally sets the standard for the rest of the troops.

Am I going to give them another chance? Probably, because as one entrepreneur to another - I really like his attitude, and I really do like using entrepreneurial enterprises as opposed to a major corporate entity where we are all just account numbers. It's the reason I went back in the first place and gave them a second chance.....

It also shows - again - the reach of the WF!

        Will keep you posted!

From what you've said I think a Host Gators resellers account would be a great choice becuase you can host multiple sites from multiple IP addresses. Another alternative would be to sign up for a Host Monster account and just use host gator and host monster together. I think that personally I would just create a hostgator resellers account, easy simple and very effective!

I did just post this to another hosting thread and saved a copy of it.
It is still on my clipboard, so I'll press ctrl + v and you should get it
too, for whatever useful info it might have.

One of my concerns with hosting is their traffic spike policy. Most
hosts will shut the site off if it hits the digg front page on a cheap
plan. The best policy I've ever found that way has been uberhost.net.
(Note the .net. The .com version is a hosting affiliate site that is
enough to baffle a person permanently.)

I nearly went with them 2 years ago and it looks like I will be moving
over there quite soon. They have a choice of cPanel or DirectAdmin
control panels. If you do have a traffic spike you have about 4
options, including just paying a one time fee for the extra traffic at
a very reasonable rate, 50 cents a GB, without upgrading to a more
expensive plan, although that is one of the other options. I personally
prefer the DA panel, which I've only seen mentioned once by anyone
    else on this forum.

They also have live chat during LA business hours and are really good
at communicating, another strong plus for me.

They have good choices in reseller plans, including cPanel with WHM
which I will probably be going with. Their DA control panel doesn't
have as good an option as WHM for that reseller plan.

Another quirky but extremely interesting host is nearlyfreespeech.net.
They have a massive amount of interesting information about hosting
on their site, including active and interesting forums. (I did my
research quite awhile ago so this might possibly have changed.) They
don't offer cPanel, just their own control panel, but they will host
just about anything that is permitted under free speech.

The only thing they charge for is traffic, and you can actually open
an account with them for just a couple of dollars. 25 cents of traffic
will last a low traffic site quite a long time, months or years. A "major
slashdotting" will cost about $10 as far as their traffic spike policy
goes and they mention that the sites they host get it about once a
    week.

Besides no cPanel, the other most like turnoffs for them are: no email,
but you can set up forwarding, and not at all newbie friendly. The no
email accounts was a turnoff for me but then with my next host I
found it best to go with just forwarding it all to gmail anyway.

If you are interested in them they will offer you a free account with
25 cents of free traffic to have a look at their control panel and check
    out the whole set up.

So, that was a lot of typing. I'm going to run back into the office,
slam the door, and pour a double brandy.

    best wishes, lloyd
