How to say "THANK YOU" on the WF!

I've been noticing that many new members are writing posts just to say "thank you" to another member or the OP. This wastes space and increases forum clutter - we're all here to read content not numerous thank you posts!

Please look for the button below each post that reads "THANKS" on the lower right. Simply press this button and your name appears below the post and credit is given to the poster. On WF, this system is important as it qualifies the poster for special WSO previews and review copies of future WSOs - so use this method and keep our forum lean and mean!

You can thank me for this thread below and / or add your own comments!

I know many of you guys have been around a while - but I had to post and ask how to leave a Thank You because I didn't know I had to have 5 posts before I was allowed do so (which seems really dumb to me, but hey, I'm not in charge)... So I was thanking people the old fashioned way.. Then someone was kind enough to point out to me I needed 5 posts... coincidentally i had just reached 5, so i was able to 'Thank' them properly :p

So I won't be offended if you don't thank me - but I see that there may be 97 people here you are not fond of (or one person you truly hate and have thanked 97 times)

I can respect this thread. I have gotten people writing me thank you in comments when they can just press the thank you button. It increases credibility when you have more people thanking you. A lot of those missed thank you's are just useless posts like you said. I completely agree with your intent.

There's nothing wrong with showing some gratitude when someone goes out of their way to help you. In fact, this forum could do with more of it.

Sure, most of the time the thank you button is sufficient but I think sometimes it's nice to do both.

If all one wants to do is say thank you, then pressing the button should suffice. However, I agree with Ben in that it's good to get a post from someone who really appreciated your help with something....Especially if you went to the trouble of writing a time consuming post, or went to the trouble of spending a few minutes finding the perfect resource that would really help out a fellow warrior.

I agree. My believe is that it is nice to actually read comments from people, instead of seeing your name in the Thanks area. It adds a personal touch to it.

I agree with this, but also you can have overkill on the written thank yous. This post in general is good. Where was it in 2010??? LOL. It took me a while to 'find' the thank you button when I first started, I use it most often, but I too will occasionally say it with a written post.

While I "get" what you are saying, here is how I roll.

In the off line world if Someone says to me "have a nice day," or Shows me the way to the nearest place I ask directions to or tells me my car looks nice I say "Thank You." The equivalent of pressing the thank you button here.

If someone gives me something worth a lot of money to me or buys me a meal or any other number of Very Valuable and helpful deeds I write them a thank you note. The equivalent of posting here.

    IMHO

If someone else already mentioned this, then sorry for duplicate information. The "Thanks" button doesn't generate until you get to 5 posts. So new people (like me, haha) have to actually say "thank you" until the button shows up.

You'd think that would be the first thing they'd want a newbie to do to get things off on the right foot is to thank those that have helped them. I had to Google to find out how to say Thank You here, only to find out I couldn't until I have the required number of posts and then one thread I couldn't comment on cause I didn't have a sufficient number of posts to do that. Come on... help us out here.

Totally agree. Its also a pain when you take the time out of your day to write something you think will genuinely help other people and you do not get thanked once. Its not as if we write stuff to get thanked but a little genorocity goes a long way. Just the other day I wrote a post about how to use QR codes which was so in depth that I could of easily sold it in the wso for 5 bucks and made a quick couple of hundred bucks. But because no one thanked me I got sad and deleted it

      Thanks

One thing I noticed about the THANK YOU feature here on WaFo is the more you GENUINELY thank people, the more people thank YOU if you post something worthwhile. There's a form of reciprocity here. If you want quality, you have to give quality. I like it. That's the way it should be. There's no such things as something for nothing.

Perhaps we could have a sarcastic Thanks button. That way, when someone writes absolute garbage, wasting our time, we could say "Thank You - Very Very Much (Not).

If you look at my side panel, you'll see that I always show my appreciation for contributions, help and effort (and that's not sarcastic).
