Hello, I'm from two months in the future...

And around 90% of Newbies asking questions in this forum will no longer be in the internet marketing game.....Do you know why?

Stop what you are doing, cut out the interruptions and let me tell you why and how you can stop it.

These poor newbies failed, somewhere between over indulging in WSO's, chasing their own tails and hunting for that elusive silver bullet, their dreams were shattered and they gave up...

The saddest thing of all is that it could have so easily been avoided...a little bit of focus....a little bit of guidance....and a little bit of patience would have made all the difference!

So if you are a newbie and that sounds a bit like you.....here is some stuff you can do....

1) Pick a Niche....but pick one that excites you and that you are interested in......and STICK to it! (Make sure there are books/magazines about it on Amazon and products being sold in the niche)

2) Grab a domain and some hosting.....Make the domain brandable (This is the best investment ever!)

3) Install wordpress and pick a theme ANY THEME....(Get the ball rolling....get started....You can change/buy themes later when the $$$ roll in)

4) Start posting content.....write it yourself, be interesting and forget about keyword % etc.

5) Be prolific....Update your blog 3-5 times a week!

6) Look for suitable offers that you could offer to your readers...Clickbank, Offervault, Adsense.....Don't ask what is best.....Just do it.....everyone has different experiences, just get it done!

7) If you can afford it get an Aweber autoresponder........find out what people in your niche are craving for and offer it to them in the form of a bribe to develop a list.

8) Get traffic......THERE IS NO SILVER BULLET.

9) Offer value on niche forums.

10) Join facebook, linkedin, Yahoo and Google groups and offer value.

11) Most importantly.....Treat your list with respect....they are people! Treat them well and they will treat you well, offer them good content and don't hit them with offers every 10 minutes....

Those 11 points are not the whole deal....but it gets you started....get used to taking action first, asking questions later.....

There are no deadly or critical mistakes that you can make......except not doing anything at all!

Hope this helps someone.....

Regards

Chris

With your headline, I just had to stop by for a laugh!!

If Stephen Hawkins can hold a dinner event for time travelers from the future to join him for dinner and no one came, how the heck did you pull it off?

    Nice post, Chris.

I'll also add to your point #1: stay clear of the MMO niche until you've actually made money online. I see so many newbie questions from members with "how to make $1,000/day" in their signatures. Aside from being highly immoral, it's incredibly transparent when you've never actually had any success online.

      Thanks Brendan!

Agreed.....problem is that too many IMers in the MMO niche, encourage people to follow them into that niche....and many newbies blindly follow!

Thanks - newbie here and it helped me! I started a blog and one minute I feel like it's going to become so big and the next minute I realize, I don't even have one person signed up to my list! It has been up and down but I still keep moving forward. I have a 9 to 5 and then put the kids to bed and I'm working on my blog through the night. It has been exhausting and I just hope I will be able to do this as my career one day.

      Hi Madelyndon!

Take it one step at a time.....

If you want to be more productive.....write down "To do" list every night before you go to bed.....

So the next morning or afternoon you hit the ground running and don't spend hours figuring out what you have to do...

Great Headline...just had to click on it, Great tips just because they are all true.

If nothing else anyone reading should take away one simple truth - take action and you will get results.

If you take action and fail then you know what not to do...try again
If you take action and succeed then rinse and repeat...

      Happy New Year

Love the headline. Your completely right about everything you said. Most people want instant gratification because we are used to receiving money if we trade our time. Internet marketing is complex. All of the people who are full time might say its easy but it wasn't easy to get to full time.

      Thanks James,

You're right! people don't realise that internet marketing is complex, everyone thinks that because they can browse, send emails etc that it's easy stuff......

It's only easy when you plan.....and even then its a bumpy ride!

This is good advice, thank you. What's your recommendation for the traffic aspect? SEO? Manual or tools? Also, with starting an authority site in a niche, i know it varies but what do you think is a realistic timeline to start making about $100/day if working consistently? What is your favorite way to monetize a site?

    Thanks so much

LOL @ TPW, i saw that show, i'm a stephen hawking fan

      Traffic:

Offer value in niche forums. (Use a signature link...DONT SPAM)
      Offer value in groups.
      Guest Blogging

      Monetisation:

No favorite....monetize with whatever you feel fits your market.....if there is a product on clickbank that you use, and LOVE....share it with your readers.....offer them only products you use!

      Income:

If you think in terms of $$$ and set goals to that extent then you are doomed to fail......how about you set targets of......5 optins a day.....if you develop your business the money comes in.....offer value and the money follows.

      Regards
