Questions on Market Samurai for current users

So I'm on my free trial of Market Samurai and I'm hoping someone more experienced can explain this to me as I'm trying to learn how to use this for SEO competition purposes.

When I analyze a keyword in Market Samurai under "SEO Competition" and also perform a google search on the same keyword, the top ten results are different. I'm assuming that Market Samurai takes in account all sources (google, yahoo, bing etc) so the google keyword will show different results?

Also, I used this backlinking tool to analyze backlinks (Backlink Checker) to see if any of the websites had any backlinks to them. Of course, the tool shows backlinks for places such as gov, edu, etc which is good and none of them came up with them. However, under the "SEO Competition" is shows the BLP that they DO have backlinks. So I'm assuming that 1) they must not have high quality links 2) Could be easy to beat

Any help will be appreciated. I watched some of the videos, but they didn't explain some of my other questions.

Are you logged into any Google account you have when you do the google search? Try running the google query through a proxy such as anonymouse.

Generally with MS, if you see a lot of red - avoid, green - go for it!

If you take a screenshot of the SEO analysis I would be happy to look at it for you. You can block out the keyword.

Thanks for the reply. I'm good with the keywords and what things mean, I just don't know the answer to the above two questions.

And yes, I am logged into to Google when I use it.

Since you are logged into Google, your search results are likely different than what you see on MS because of the personalization settings on google. This is why you should run your searches logged out of google or through an anonymous searcher like anonymouse or scroogle.

Try playing around with changing your location (on the left) before you search in Google. Some of the variation has to do with Google's servers having different info on them(and presumably updating at different times.

I don't think you can be sure that links you can't find are weak links. It just isn't possible to see everything to be sure these days. I take the sites I have built links by hand for, figure out how many I should have and calculate a ratio using that and the number that do show. Then I apply that ration to other sites. Not a great method but better than nothing.

A lot of answers to MS questions can be found in the videos at their dojo.

q1 when you run the seo comp, do you then select the show results in google button at the bottom of that page or do your own search, show results should match so not sure why you see diffrent.

q2 you can cheeck the backlinks in ms / when in seo click the little down orrow next to th url, then select the pr check and do it that way, no need for a sperate tool, unless you want ?

I have Market Samurai and found it took a while to get used to. It also had a few issues with google stopping the script running. I went with Micro Niche Finder and found it much more useful. Maybe others could agree/disagree with me to give you some good feedback before you make a choice about purchasing the full product.
