How to Become an Authority Figure on the Warrior Forum

by danr62
57 replies
Create a brand new account.

Start a new thread giving rehashed tips that everybody already knows about.

Make sure the post is badly formatted with huge blocks of text so no one will bother reading it.

Don't say anything controversial and don't make the post interesting to read. Just the rehashed tips that nobody needs, stated in a very droll and matter of fact way.

Man that's harsh. Why such a negative post? Are you having a bad couple of days? Whats really behind this?

Negative? I'm offering real advice here. These methods have been followed time and time again on WF.

Mostly unsuccessfully, but who cares about that?

I just have to laugh. I hear your point. The way you worded it was like you are just disgusted with the repetition of the same stuff being said over and over. I agree with the mostly unsuccessful. Its usually one guy that gets through the cracks and tells everybody else how and then 99% of them fall flat on their face attempting to duplicate his success. Eventually many people when they have had enough will just start lying to appear like the guy who made it to lead their own herd of followers.

LOL, yeah, I've found myself getting a little bitter about some of the things going on around here as well... Going to have to put a stop to that.

BUT to be fair, some of the stuff is repeated over and over again because:

    1. There are a lot of Newbies who haven't seen it and don't use the Search function
    2. There are a lot of Intermediates who need to hear it again

I agree, but when you have a post count of 2 and are posting very basic advice that most newbies learn before ever even learning about this forum it seems kind of ridiculous.

What you are saying has some truth but you wouldn't necessarily become an authority figure. But yes, newbies seems to be asking a lot of same questions all the time and then they get the same answers. If they simply used the search function it would spare everyone a lot of time. However I think people like to get the most recent answer (especially newbies, since they are not very experienced in seo) to make sure the answer is still valid as seo evolves very fast.

I would have to agree. Personally I think of a thought leader as someone who provides real insight on a given topic and post count does not always equate to that kind of thing.

Just about every forum I've ever been a member of has this come up on occasion. People wonder why the same questions get asked and the same answers are given over and over. That's how commmunities work. That's why we have tourist information booths and greeters at Wal-Mart

There will always be an influx of relatively new people who will ask those basic questions or want to read the basic advice. I understand how that can cause some clutter issues with the vet members though.

      Regards,
      jim

Kind of you to say so, but in fairness, I missed a big part of the point the originator of this thread was trying to make. Giving the same answers to the same questions is one thing, but posting the same old basic tips as if they're a new addition to the bible is another -- I believe that was his point with a healthy dose of sarcasm.

Of course that comes from the same place that the same old questions come from. I know I've posted tips in a forum where I thought I was being refreshing and insightful and it turned out it had been done to death.

          Did I get it?

          Regards,

superb you hate what the newbies do but oh yeah here's another idea for you. have a heart you were new once. we tell them what to do and then when they try to do it they get run down. If you've ever seen a person stalked and run down in a forum by someone who doesn't like it, it's not a very nice picture. They end up demoralized and afraid to go near another forum again. Just send them a pm and suggest they get a little more knowledge under their belts. At least be a warrior, we do not operate like this!

Hey if you are new to this forum don't take this negatively even though it could have been more positive but think about it. Go get a WSO or follow instructions and succeed at something make gigantic splash here by saying I did this, this and this and look what I made! then do it again. Every success brings you closer to being an authority before you know it.

  • This is half the reason I tend to stay well away from this main discussion forum; it's full of crap like this post.

No offence man, but what a waste of good web. We all know there's fools on the internet, popularly known as keyboard warriors but why let it get you stressed?

Ignore the idiots; the rest of us do. You fuel the fire if you pay attention to it.

On another note, if this is you getting frustrated and stressed about something so small, I'd hate to do business with you. If something so small gets under your skin, then I can't imagine how you'd react if something bigger went pear-shaped.

Fuel your anger and frustration (and apologies if this isn't the case - it's just how your post is coming across) into something more productive.

    That's what I do.

    Edit:

Oh, and on another note, for the new guys here: Ignore most of what you see on here, and on the internet in general. There's far too many cowboys eagerly willing to nab your money and leave you sitting there with your d*ck in your hand.
Find someone whose reputable (preferably by a bunch of seasoned warriors) whose got valid proof of having actually made serious money before you go buying tons of different WSO's and other crap that you don't need.

I'm not talking about rehashed answers to questions that someone asks. What I'm talking about is someone posting a brand new thread with rehased tips.

For instance, a thread that reads like an article which explains extremely basic SEO principles.

Report 'em, and they go away. That's what the little red triangle to the left of every post is for.

We delete almost every thread that starts with an article. That includes threads that start with videos, since we're not going to even think about spending the time watching posted videos to make sure they're not self-promotional.

    Where's the "authority" part?

    Here's a much better plan.

    1. Post several times a day in random threads someone else started. Don't start threads of your own, the mods pay much closer attention to that.

    2. Don't even try to deliver any value. Just tell jokes, make snide comments, and say "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID" a lot.

    3. People will "thank" you for these posts, and before you know it you'll have thousands of posts and hundreds of thanks.

Et voila. Post count and thanks = authority.
