Need an SSL server...

Hey guys,

So I need to get an SSL server so that I can track some CPA offers. I have no idea why it's taken me so long to start effectively tracking, but better late than never.

I'm using Prosper202, and I need to get an SSL server so that I can track CPA offers with credit card processing.

I've never dealt with this before and it's a bit confusing. I was wondering if anyone could point me in a good direction for how to get a good, cheap SSL server for simple tracking purposes.

Thanks a million.

I'm not getting this. Why would you need an SSL server to track CPA?

That's what I said originally as well, but in order to track CPA with credit card transactions (Free trials, for example) I need an SSL server.

This is so my tracking pixel is secure so they can put it on the confirmation page, which is also secure.

      Very annoying...

If you think this is inaccurate on their part, please tell me so I can have another discussion with my AM.

        Hi

If you need SSL just purchase a license. No specific server needed.
Ask your hosting company, they probably offers it. Else serach for
SSL online and really compare prices. As som charge for it like if it's
        was gold.

        Hi Avery

Ah, I can see now why they're saying that.

If their page is on an SSL server so that the user gets the little padlock in their browser but that page contains content that is hosted on a non-secure (ie non SSL) server then the visitor will get that "some elements on this page are not secure" popup dialog box.

Do you have a CPanel based website? There are links in CPanel to buy and install an SSL certificate so that you can then use https:// (ie SSL) references to content that's on your website.

The same thing applies if you want a custom image at the top of your PayPal pages and there are free sites that will host it for you. I know that's not what you're looking for, but it is related to this.

        Cheers,

Thanks Neil. And Daniel, I was looking around at prices and found some at like $200, which is why I came here! It was crazy.

Here's a link to a free ssl image hosting service but I'm not sure if that solves your issue: SSLpic - Free SSL Image hosting for PayPal.

Additionally, Hostgator offers a free private ssl certificate with their business plan which is $14.95/month if you pay monthly.

    Another possible solution:

Hostgator told me that with their reseller accounts, all associated domains have free use of a "shared" security certificate.

I was thinking about going that route with a joint venture project that involves multiple domains.

Maybe that would help you too?

Thanks for the link Kristi... I'm not sure if it will work but that is a great site anyway. I bookmarked it.

This is good information here... Darrel, what are you proposing?

Namecheap is good too, but I don't want to have two different hosts. I feel like I'm paying double when I don't have to...

Or am I wrong? Can I just get the SSL domain from them and transfer it right away? I've never transferred a domain before. My entire 2 year career has been on the same server.

Or just buy a cheap SSL cert. There is no need to go with an expensive provider. The public do not recognise the certifying authorities anyway.
Shoot, I use Namecheap and didn't know about that. Thanks.

I was looking at namecheap and if you buy ANYTHING with them they will give you FREE SSL on any domain you want... even if it's not with them. Sounds like a great deal to me.

However, do you guys if I HAVE to have a dedicated IP to use SSL?

    Thanks.

Ok, it all is making sense now.

I have my domains in Hostmonster get a dedicated IP. Then I buy an SSL cert from wherever I want, and then install it in my cpanel...

I'm glad I finally have this understood.

How annoying as well... I can have my host do it all for $49, or I can get it from another place for $9... big difference.
