Warning re Facebook links

For those of you who post links automatically from your blog to a facebook page you might want to check that these links are still publishing. I recently noticed that I couldn't post any links manualy or otherwise to a new site I created on wordpress to a Facebook page. I spent a lot of time looking for a fix thinking it was something to do with the meta tags but having checked the url on facebooks developers debug tool the problem doesn't seem to be there. I had a look around Facebook and came across quite a lot of people who have reported exactly the same problem inside the last week.

If you are relying on Facebook to spread the word via links to another site then I would advise you to check them ASAP. This is not good news for people who make a living on line as a drop in Facebook traffic could seriously impact overall traffic figures.

If you do have any problems make sure that you let Facebook know about it. The more people who post about it the greater the chance that they will do something about it. I found some recent posts in their community help forum Community Help Topics | Facebook (select 'Links)

I would be interested to hear if any other Warriors are experiencing the same issue (or not if the case may be).

Dave, I'm glad you made this thread. I know someone who was experiencing the same problem. In fact, he had become so dependent on the automatic publishing of his links that it took him a long time to discover that it wasn't really working anymore. This happened to him a few months ago, but I guess by the looks of it, the issue is reemerging.

My guess is that there are a LOT of people who are not aware at the moment that links to their sites can't be posted on Facebook. So far, most complaints are being made by Wordpress and Blogger users but there may be other platforms with this problem too.

    Hi JB,

Personally I manually update my pages for that same reason....

I used to get it done automatically but I switched over after a bug caused the whole thing to stop working....

You may want to switch to manual for a bit....

    Regards

    Chris

I was posting those links manually when I discovered it myself - that's when I tried to push them out through WP using an auto FB publisher but that didn't work either. That got me thinking about people who never check and just assume their links are being published to Facebook all the time. It's a pretty big issue and very surprising that Facebook haven't addressed it yet.
