My 2011 Goal Failed -Learn From It and Here's My 2012 Goal!

16 replies
In the year 2011, I had a goal of making $1,000 from amazon and I failed as a results of the following reasons. I have now learnt from the past and I'm currently moving ahead. Here are some reasons why I failed and How you can avoid them.

1. I FAILED TO REGISTER MY DOMAIN MYSELF: I registered my domain names using someone else's namecheap account and after 3months of work, and my domain names were on page 1 (#1 and #3 spots respectively) I realized that the domain had been parked and all effort to reach the guy failed.

LESSON: ALWAYS use your namecheap account to register your domains. its free to open so why use another person's own anyway?

2. I FAILED TO TRACK MY RESULTS: I never tracked my progress else I would have realised it was time to take charge of my domains.

LESSON: Always monitor your progress, else you would reach your goal and not even know it!

3. I FAILED TO REPEAT WHAT WORKED FOR ME: Having noticed the success I had with ranking those domains, I would have easily repeated the process for new domains, but I just joined the band and started looking for a new way to make money.

LESSON: Always Rinse and Repeat what works for YOU! until you create a system around it and become the guru at doing it!

MY 2012 GOAL STATEMENT!

I have learnt that FOCUS simply means Following One Course Until Successful so here's my 2012 goal statement;

"I'd build only two amazon affiliates sites in 2012 that will each be on the 1st page of google for their root keyword and will collectively make me $1000 by the end of the year. I am devoting six months to each of the sites and I promise not to move unto a new site until the first site sits on a comfortable spot on page one"
I will be building backlinks by using;
- Article Marketing
- Profile Linking
- Blog Comments

Please do make your comments or suggestions on how I can achieve this goal.

If you learnt anything from this post feel free to share it and also other issues we can learn from!

        That's a great goal, hamzidosh. I will make my own personal goal statement, too. But I need to get rid of my procrastination habit first.

        So I wish you all the best and good luck on your journey.

    One can learn a lot from this post and your experience. Thanks for sharing it. Sometimes these simple things go unnoticed by both inexperienced as well as professional online marketers. Having said that, I don't like the idea of setting monetary goals in a field such as online marketing. I feel it generally tends to lead to disappointment, and not much else.

    I appreciate your post... it's great that you realized your mistakes and that you are willing to learn from them... I believe it's not a problem to make some mistakes, but the most important thing is to learn new lessons if any of your move was a mistake...

    I hope you will correct those mistakes in 2012. and I hope others will also learn something from your mistakes

    @Yasir
    Yeah...the cash up there is just to play a little trick on d mind to make it think of what it could gain from putting in the effort to do d work required. My specific goal is d exact statement without the $1,000 cash reward.

    If anybody knows a plan I can implement to achieve this goal please state it here or PM me & write your name in my success story8-)

    you failed, great, now you know what NOT TO DO more of. Simple really.

    You must track and test eveything as a marketer. Infact I do not class myself as a marketer at all, just a prolific tester and tracker of things..... somethings work, others dont. as John Reese once said and I quote "marketing online is simple, find something that works and just do more of it. If something does not work do not do it again.....Making money is doing more of the things that do work for you and your busienss and less of what doesnt"

    Very wise words. So study and follow along if you will.

      I agree with your sentiment. However, I think some people read "find one thing and just stick to it" and don't realize that the caveat is you only stick with it IF it is working. You do have to test and MEASURE results because money and life are both in short supply and if you don't know if something is working you may well waste too much of both. The first is replenishable and the other is not.

        There are lots of newbie lost in this game. Normally for our niches one traffic method will work better than the other. So I get your point, but you are giving to many if's buts or maybes.

        The real reason people fail is their mentality and the method they are using, not what you are talking about. Some people are just not born to play this marketing game. it is not easy at all. And first things first, you should always learn from someone at the point where you want to be. That was the single biggest transition for our business...learning from those in the know. it cuts out many mistakes, and many of the ifs, buts and maybe you talk about.
