Need some advice on naming...

Fellow Warriors,

I finally took the plunge into writing about my own experiences with IM by starting a website/blog dedicated to affiliate marketing. Of course, I hope this turns into a source of income one day, but it's also just to give back and let some new people in on what I have learned so far.

Problem is, like an idiot, I put "Amazon" in my domain name, and another Warrior kindly pointed out to me that this is not a good idea, as Amazon.com is very protective of their brand.

Now I am looking for a rebrand/rename by way of a new domain name. My question for you is:

Do I stick with something generic but targeted (for example, affiliateblogonline.com) or something personal, brandable and expandable (mattsmarketingblog.com or michellemacphearson.com).

There are benefits of sticking with the generic, targeted name: you get the exact match domain, people searching for your specific flavor of IM will be more attracted to your site, and your main page will be easier to rank for certain keywords.

BUT, on the other hand, I will definitely be expanding into other techniques outside of what I'm doing today, so the flexibility of a non-targeted domain would be nice. Also, people love a personal story. I mean, just look at Pat Flynn!

Any advice either way would be awesome.

Thanks,

Brock

I would use your name only.

Your views will change, what you do will change and you may as well start building the brand of YOU from day one.

I like the idea with using your name. With social media taking over, having a name and a face that goes with along with the page that can be tied to your site I feel will make things easier.

5 votes for your name. You will always remain you. You might have different ideas you want to work on and you will be your own brand. I agree with everyone's suggestion.

Seems like everyone has the same idea here....good to know. I will definitely be using a variation of my name (not just firstnamelastname.com) that's expandable and can develop some brand equity.

    Thanks for the input!

I'd go with your name. Gives you a lot more options in the long run for content and promotions.

I can never use my real name... people will find out what I did when I was a kid.

But if you can use your real name... go for it.

I agree with a lot of other posts.

Use your name and start branding yourself. Once you start a following and establish yourself, things will get a lot easier. That is the hardest part to marketing online.

I agree with everyone else. Go with your name so you can start building your brand. One extra idea though. Even if you're going with a variation of your name, I'd still register a domain in your full name - first name last name. You may want it in the future and you don't want anyone else hijacking your name online.

I would do affiliateblogonline.com, and make money with it first. Once you're making money with this one site, then start a new site with your first name and last name, and monetize it the same way you would do with the affiliateblogonline.com domain.

Are you shooting for profits only.... or do you want some credibility, brand, and fame in your niche?

You will have a harder time getting organic traffic to a "you" blog but if you use funnel blogs and other exact keyword resources to link to your personalized blog it should not be a problem.

I saw nobody mentioned that using your name is better, so I will do it. Use your name.
