How do you make money from your list?

Hey everyone,

Now I have herd over and over again "the money is in the list"

So what did I do i went off and started my own list.

Now before i go on i just want to say i really started to build my list probably like Jan 1st.

Anyway to build my list i started off by giving away a free report on bum and video marketing and have built my list to 250+ in one month which i think is pretty solid for my first attempt though i really have nothing to compare it too.

So These are my questions to all you list building experts out there.

Do all of the email's you send out promote other products or do you ever send out just some free advice. Because i know its all about building a relationship but if your always promoting a product how do you build a relationship. Or if you do send out email's to build a relationship what are these emails like?

Are there way's to make money with out people actually buying products like can i send cpa's to my list. If so is this smart or does this look dumb. As well where can i find cpa's to send out to my list if of course you recommend doing so.

I have been doing a lot of ad swaps to build my list meaning i am sending them a free product once probably every 2 or 3 email's is this bad because then they will stop buying products because they just expect to get something free so often?

Also in my last 3 emails pointing my list to paid products i have gotten 25 Click through's 27 click through's and 27 click through's but not one sale. Is this becuase my email's aren't good enough or is it just my list isn't big enough to really be making any sales?

Im sure i have more questions becuase i am new to this but would really appreciate some answers.

Thanks,

Eric

If you keep sending quality tips, and mix in suited affiliate product offers now and then, you will keep your list members interested in your info, and in the long end, you will make money from it.

Just keep going, and never ever give up, even when you send out promo emails that don't result in a sale, it's just the way things go. You can't expect to contact 500 people and make 500 sales... I wish it was that easy :-)

Keep sending them tips and info for free and add in quality offers every now and then. They need to trust you and see that you're worth listening too before they part with their money. I was listening to a podcast some weeks ago on this subject, I seem to remember the guy would send out 7 pieces of information for free for every 1 paid offer.

I think you picked the wrong product to promote. The secret of success is choosing the correct products to promote. The sales page should be more inspirational & motivate the people to buy it. Story telling sales page wins more, people loves to read success stories, they will get motivated & they will buy that product.

List building is very slow internet marketing & its cost more time. But it's worth once you got more than 1000's of people. The conversion rate for any product will be around 1 to 3% only. if you send promo letter to 1000 people then the minimum chances of sales is around 5 - 10. But again the sales page story telling should be very good, otherwise it won't work.

    Hi

Here is my list building experience, I'm very much a newbie and learning as I go.

I built a list of 1,000 subscribers on the back of my first eBook (sells on ClickBank) over 8 months.

I post regularly to my blog, offering as much valuable free content as I can.

Whenever I do a new blog post I send out a broadcast email to my list telling them to visit my blog.

My overall strategy is to give as much as I can to my list to build loyalty.

I have a few autoresponder affiliate product offers and have made $100 from these (in total) from a handfull of sales.

I sent out my first broadcast promo email last week and followed it up with 2 further emails, I made 6 sales from these. (because it is a high priced product my commission is $4,500!)

My focus is to churn out 1 new eBook every quarter and use them to build my list.

Take a look at my blog (see my sig for the link) and watch my video for more inside info.

Correct - your list isn't big enough dude. You need about 2k at least to start getting a few sales from each email.

When you have 20K+ subscribers you can consider leaving the day job lol.

    Good luck,

Email marketing is an art.. you'll make money in the long run... give value, always give value.. but also don't forget to train them to buy from you! So, you need to make them expect offers from you as well. 250 is not big enough and just remember not all of your members will open your email. Learn psychological triggers also will help you to make money from your list.

Your list should be targeted for buyers in your niche up front. Your squeeze page should make the first attempt to make a sale, with an option to subscribe for free tips related to that product or niche. Building a list by offering freebies will load you up with mostly free loaders. Let your subscribers know you are in business, but demonstrate your expertise in your followup emails. My subscribers get offers in every emal, along with valuable information. My conversion to sales is between 60-70% within 60 days with my hard hitting autoresponder series. If they don't buy within 90 days, they get deleted. If they buy, they remain as subscribers forever and usually buy again every 30-60 days. That's how I built an active, responsive list of over 600,000. Nearly 10% of them have been subscribers on my list for six years or more.

        Couple of suggestions:
Use multiple squeeze pages - always capture email on every freebie or order
Teleseminars - if you can find 5-10 other list owners in your niche, record interviews with them and host a "summit." Have everyone cross promote the event to their lists and you capture all the emails when people register for the free event.
Article marketing - write articles and submit. I use uniqueartclewizard.com. Make sure your signature has a squeeze.

        That should get you going...

Too many people try to build a list by giving a free report in the hope their next email blast will lead to a sale. It doesnt work like that.

Your list is your life - treat them like a family, and treat them right...and then they will love you for it.
What would be something that i could send to them to make them feel like family. Should I let them in on a new hot niche? Should I offer them products for half off? What should I do?

Well at this rate 20k+ will only take me 6 and a half years so ill only be 24 lol.

But i figured that 250 isn't really enough to be making sales.

The money is in your RELATIONSHIP with the list.

I have built a list in one niche to 4,000 over the last couple of years. Most came in through free reports on squeeze page via PPC or through products I sell on Clickbank.

I give a great deal of free content including a comprehensive monthly newsletter and a monthly webinar. I do 75% content and 25% pitch/promotion. As a result, income from my list is $2/month vs the standard $1/month. That is a huge difference.

This year, I just started a "premium membership" continuity program and I have 104 members paying $47/mo after 2 weeks of promotion. Again, all because they know I deliver great content and 1) my paid stuff has a very high perceived value and 2) they don't want to miss anything.

So, my advice is always to build your relationship with your list and you will be rewarded. That's how guys with 1,000 lists can beat guys with 10,000 in affiliate promotions.
            Thanks

    Hi Eric,

    Regaring your post...

Maybe the products you promoted were too expensive for your list
hence why you did not make any sales when you emailed your list
    or were not great products.

I would suggest you email your list or conduct some sort of survey
with your subscribers and see what kind of info and/or products they
are really interested in inorder to help you serve them better and hopefully
make you sales when you actually find them products you now know
they are going to like and want to buy.

    Hope this helps

    Hi everyone...

    Use the 3-1 Rule.

3 pieces of good advice that will benefit ur subscribers, and 1 promotion per week.

This way you offset the blatent taking of thier money, with a good reason.

If you give first, you'll receive back tenfold then just keep building more and more lists and releasing more and more value packed beneficial products, and eventually you'll have a list that is massively profitable - and not based on size.

The MONEY is NOT in the list, it's in the relationship WITH the list.

Do surveys to make your list feel important that really look after them. Provide them with the answers they are searching for and the rapport between you will grow.

Cut out the marketer/subscriber aura and become personal, show them insights in to your life and become "friends too".

Always reply to emails asap and treat them like gold.

Thats how you succeed with your list. The proof? I have defeated marketers in JV comps with lists 5 times bigger and make $4000 this week with 2 emails from a promotion...

Enjoy and apply the advice folks.

Are there websites that i can make survey's on and send them out to my list?

Or by survey do you mean just ask a question and hope they respond?

As well how would i go about asking them

Like What do you guys need the most help with or what would you guys like to learn about

      questions like that

      or is there another approach

How do you make money from your list?
Have you ever purchased something? If so why? was it the bullet points and benefits that converted you?

If so, was it worth the purchase?

How did you learn of this product that converted you to a buyer? did someone recommend it to you?

Some times, you are your best mentor.

Don't try to sell to these people, just point them to things they can't live without

Let's imagine this forum comes with a price tag of $200 and you never knew of its existence until someone sent you an email pointing to it via an AFF link. Would you think.. "Oh he's just trying to get a commission out of me" or would you send them a warming email thanking them?

  • Yes You need to develop a relationship with your list first and build trust.
Give them value as much as possible that way they will grow to trust you
and then when it comes time to selling to them they will be more inclined to buy from you.

Don't just build the list then sell them stuff it doesn't work that way you have to build a relationship with them first no matter how big your list is.

Yes it is time consuming but it is well worth it in the end.

    Hope this helps

A lot of marketers have had positive results in
terms of sales when they do daily emails.

Double Your Dating emails you every 2/3 days.
David DeAngelo has his autoresponders to work
one year round. If you have been in Double
Your Dating list for sometime, do a search
and you will find that you get the same email
now that you got roughly the same date of
      last year.

The idea is that most emails will be largely
ignored. However once in a while, when
the subject line captures the attention of
      the list, they will open.

The responsiveness to the offer depends
largely on the sales copy. If you don't have
a good copywriting skill, either you learn it
or outsource it (which is pretty expensive
      for newbies).
