Facebook - I'm lost

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers to learn about Facebook. I'm OK with SEO, WordPress etc but I'm completely at a loss where to start with Facebook.

I know there's lots of WSOs for Facebook but I think they are aimed way above my head.

I personally don't like it as I get suckered in and waste too much time reading about my friends' holidays or what they had to drink last night - however I'm well aware it can be a valuable marketing tool - it's just that I don't have a clue where to begin with.

I'd be very grateful for some pointers.:confused:

    Your question is a little vague. Are you wanting to use Facebook to market yourself, your products and/or services? Are you wanting to use Facebook as a service to offer your offline clients?

      Sorry, I should have made it more clear. I intend to do both - use Facebook to market myself (service) and also to use Facebook as a service to offer to offline clients.

    Facebook marketing is about relationships, and you should be aiming to use a Facebook page to do the bulk of your marketing.

    A facebook page is free to setup and create and is like a profile for your business.

    People can visit it and "Like" the page, which essentially means they will see your updates if Facebook thinks your page has content that is engaging enough.

    To market successfully on facebook you need to provide good quality content that entices users to like, comment or share on it......this allows your page to grow.

    In Facebook its all about the relationships...

    I HATE the place!

    It has the least intuitive interface ever designed and it always takes me ages to find anything.

    That said, I have a fan page and it is doing ok. That's what I would look into if I were you i.e. creating your own.

      Thanks Will, I agree with you about the least intuitive interface. I suppose 700 million pages speaks volumes though and I'll definitely be looking into building a fanpage and I'll take it from there.

      You need to start with a fanpage and stay on that so you don't see and get sucked into all your friends mucking around. It is free and easy to set up from the facebook homepage, if you need help you can message me I have a free fanpage course designed for beginners moving into much more indepth stuff further down the road in my sig.     Yeah, Facebook can be a great marketing tool as well if used properly. If you want to use it to market yourself then make a service page or community page and engage with your audience. Offer free advice and guidance. Never try to sell yourself too much. If people trust they will buy from you.
