Affiliate Marketing Minus Google

I have some profitable affiliate sites, but they lost their Google rankings back in August. Despite my efforts, they're stuck on page #5. I did hire someone to try to fix the problem on one site. In the meantime, I really want to reduce my reliance on Google traffic and build up some alternate traffic sources.

PPC is expensive in this niche and the niche is not very social media friendly. So what do you think I should focus on? What would you do in this situation?

Perhaps you can recommend some tutorials or ebooks to help master a specific strategy that I should be using.

Thanks!

Have you tried the content network and banner advertising? It may be cheaper than PPC...

Otherwise head to forums where people in the niche hang out....see if the forum is selling advertising.....

    Guest blogging on niche blogs...

Plenty of Non Google Dependent options

    Hope this helps

If it helps/suits, article marketing can be a method of attracting floods of targeted traffic without any search-engine dependence at all. Explained here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5035794

Focus your effort on list building, and promote your affiliate stuff from your mailing list.

This way, you will no longer be beholden to the whims of Google, and your business will grow regardless of what Google is up to this week.

  • To add to Chris's recommendation, you could even look to see if the sites that are beating you in the rankings have ad space that you could purchase. If they are blogs, being an active commenter can help drive traffic too.

I feel your pain. But, here's an excellent ebook that will help with alternative traffic and ultimately perhaps even optimize backlinking strategies: Turn Words Into Traffic. You may find this source of traffic also converts much more effectively.

Almost all of my traffic is driven by article syndication in specialty ezines, relevant websites/blogs, and even offline publications such as targeted magazines and newspapers. Google was always insignificant in my own marketing, as this model bypasses the entrenched SEO heavy hitters jostling with backlinks and keywords.

Thank you for your replies. There have been some good suggestions. Right now I am getting someone to redesign my website focusing on improving conversion rates. Then I'll get started on some of these strategies, such as guest blogposting and paid traffic.

Can anyone point me to a good tutorial or forum thread to get started with paid traffic beyond traditional search engine PPC? I think banner advertising and content network advertising could do quite well, but I don't have a big budget to learn from mistakes.

This post is very eye opening. See how not once, someone kept saying hey, get and article and spin it three times till sunday and then post it to ezine articles.

The game is changing, and guest posting is working well for us. Infact one really good guest post is going to smash you in some huge traffic. It is a little bit more work, but well worth the rewards as Alexa and paul are admiting too.

You could try some small media buys in forums, and blogs when you post targeted keywords into google.

Ebook syndication, tutorial sites, content syndication, DirectoryOfEzines advertising.

Kim Roach's Traffic Dashboard has all kinds of alternatives...doesn't even worry about SEO and kills it. It's much quicker, more consistent, and you can tell Google to kiss your butt..LOL

It's HUGE weight off of a persons shoulders being able to do that..

      To hell with SEO:-)
