Dare to be different. Why not?

      Why not indeed.

Aside from the fact you're scrolling window is going the wrong way, you haven't got your single biggest benefit above the fold.

Give me a reason to scroll down to find out more about what you can do for me, above the fold.

From a design point of view, there's nothing above the fold which inspires in me any desire to find out more about you. A scrolling text/image box - big deal. Is this supposed to impress me?

Is this supposed to connect with my emotional frustration and pain and create inside my mind a strong desire to take the action needed to scroll further down, to find out what you're all about?

You have about 2-3 seconds to create a lasting, good impression.

Unfortunately with everything below the fold out of sight, there's not a single reason here for me to take any further interest in your website.

And so I think, pass. And go look for somebody else who actually knows what they're doing.

For if you cannot get it right on your own website...

...how can I believe you, have trust in you that you're going to do good by me, on my behalf?

This instantly will affect or impound negatively on your credibility. It will turn warmed up or hot leads away in a split second... whatever you're trying to do with your direct call to action, buried down below the fold.

      Best,

      Mark Andrews

Am I the only one who sees the irony in a professional web design company wanting the design of their homepage critiqued?

I am just busting his chops a little. I have word press sites a lot uglier than his and they still make money.

I may be too old school but flash sites are harder to SEO and rank and believe it or not ... well over 60% of the population is still on dial up so half of the bells and whistles are not working quick enough for them to see them.

Definitely troy, I have 22 different wordpress sites and all of them bring in decent income and they are ugly as hell, I just would have took a different approach other than WP when creating a website designer page:p His site looks good regardless I believe though!

60% use dialup? No, that's wrong. Even before I got a few sources, it was obviously wrong. The correct and latest figure is 10%, in the USA. Maybe what you claimed was correct in 2004 or something, though. Definitely not even "well over" 10%, mind you.

When I put that site in my profile I had over 600 websites that were either money sites, extended traffic funnels, or private content linking networks.

A health issue rendered my entire left side impaired to the point of having to type with one hand and my speech not clear enough to use dragon for the bigger part of 2011.

I didn't think I would ever be well enough to go as big in the IM field again so I simply sold off or let all my IM stuff die.

Through therapy I can now use both hands, talk as plain as the average hillbilly, and even walk almost normal for several feet at a time.

But to say I have nothing.

I Have been both an off and online marketer for over 14 years .. full time. I put a son through UGA, Now have a daughter in private college, a son in grade school and full custody of 2 nephews who I will put through college.

I have done all of this and not had an active income for almost a year ... so take what I say with a grain of salt but I will be back on top because I have no fear of failure and will not do it it by coming on here and pretending to want my site critiqued to drum up business.

Those of us who know how to do it can always , not only do it again but do it a lot faster.

Thank you for your offer but I have had true , long time warriors offer me their assistance when I was down and really needed it. While I was truly thankful to all of them, I didn't take their help and think I will pass on your offer also.

Best of luck to you and yours

                    Troy

    ya'll are brutal.

Ok, so I would probably de-emphasize the social media aspect. Sure, it can lend some credibility, but it's not a main aspect.

As an earlier poster mentioned, I would try to get the "Web design" "logo design" and "IM" headings above the fold.

And then, can I pick at your "get. connected". seriously? What about "be. empowered." or "Next.level" or "bigger.pond" or "bigger.market" or stand out.

The internet is such a huge, untapped field that its way more than just being connected. Heck, I was connected on fb for a decade before I figured out how to make money from my connections. So really maybe taking it a step further and showing what the connections will do for your customers.

And Troy, what better place to beta test your site then in a room full of sharks? Sounds like a good plan to me!

I don't think OP really cares what we say about his website.

      WHY?

      He didn't design it. It's a template.

      WordPress - U-Design WordPress Theme | ThemeForest
U-Design jQuery Wordpress Theme - tripwire magazine

It's a thinly veiled advertisement to get new clients.

      LAME.

Yeah, you put it here because it's a prime advertising place

You put it here because you knew the web design forum would know it was a template.

You put it here as an el cheapo way of getting new clients.

Also, on your website, it's spelled "your company's" - it's a possessive noun, not a plural - basic English 101. (ie, "there are 5 companies" or "your company's profits will go up")

            You guys are brutal lol.

In all serious though, there is nothing wrong with a web development company using Wordpress sites or templates to deliver client solutions.

80% of the sites we develop for our clients use Wordpress as the CMS behind them. There is no point in spending extra hours coding a custom solution which can easily be achieved straight out of a standard Wordpress install. I know from speaking to other web design companies in the UK that Wordpress is fast becoming an industry standard CMS system for website builds.

The fact that he is using templates/wordpress is fine, as long as its all clearly explained to his clients and he can sell the benefits/features of a wordpress site over a custom coded site.

Good luck with your new venture.

We aren't talking about client solutions though. You missed the entire point - this guy posted in the wrong forum to avoid web designers scrutinizing his website and realizing he didn't design it, he just downloaded a template and modified it.

Additionally he isn't posting in the web design forum because he knows there are only web designers there and few potential clients.

And no one here is saying Wordpress shouldn't be used for clients. No one is even saying Wordpress templates can't be used for clients either, not sure where that came from

And I'm going to bite my tongue and avoid commenting on your claims about Wordpress becoming an industry standard CMS. Perhaps the scenery is different in the UK or maybe you just have very limited experience dealing with non-SMBs. Ah damn I thought I was going to hold my tongue...

Its just a WP theme - a white background, some plain text, and mediocre block logos...

No offence but if you are a Web design company... you should use this home page to showcase your "best" and present yourself...

On a more positive note, the site looks new... which means improvements will be made over time... Not bad for a "first draft"

    "there for" should be "therefore"
" industries leading software" should be "industry's leading software"
