I read an article once about this and it said to expect a lot of returns, obviously because people cannot try stuff on over the internet. I guess it depends on what you are selling.

That's a good point, but you should market your clothing website the same way you market anything else online. Will you be hiring a web designer?

I ran an online vintage clothing site. The clothes were one of a kind, so it was a little different.

While I had a no questions asked refund policy I did not have very many returns or refunds. I helped avoid this by placing actual measurements in addition to size.

The key is variety. The more items I had available, the more traffic I had and the more sales I had.

yes, i co-ran an online store which also had physical premises. it was TOUGH. competition is rife, returns are all too frequent and keeping up with the technology is a constant battle.

having said that, if you can stay on top of all of this, you could be a millionaire.

I actually just started my own online business selling hip hop urban clothes. wild100s.com. There is still a lot to do and A LOT to learn. It was complicated at first but after a while things begin to smooth itself out. We've been in business for about 5 months and business is slowly picking up. We know our product is GREAT. Traffic and more potential customers is our ultimate weakness at the moment. Check us out!!!

    • Returns. Are you going to offer free returns? Even without that, you'll probably see a 40% return rate. That's not uncommon in the mail order biz.

Many people won't buy clothes online these days unless they can send them back at no cost.

Have a strategy laid out ahead of time for how you'll handle returns. You can't really sell them as new, so blow them out in lots to jobbers or something.

You should write a return/return policy and strictly adhere to them. But remember this that most payment processing companies are on the side of the buyer, i.e. paypal. So, be careful who you chose.

I have seen lots and lots of people owning this kind of pages but on Facebook. They have photos of the clothes from different angles, all the information required and they are pretty successful, even without an official website.

I buy a lot of things on line... except clothing. Why? Without the ability to try on the garment I would much less likely be interested in purchasing.

I was doing it successfully for a while. I never really ran into a problem with returns.
