Need your input on the best way to do an email promo with someone who has a huge list...

Someone with a 5k list wants me to help him monetize it and he'll give me 50% of earnings that comes from it. I am planning to mail the same emails that I sent to my list of 3k promoting affiliate products (who are in the same niche as his).

Question: what is the best way to approach this?

Do I send him the email swipes with my affiliate links to have him mail out to his list? He can always remove my link and just mail it out himself that way...

He offered to somehow let me mail to them myself. However, how would I be able to mail to them without my autoresponder (aweber) having to personally verify each person for permission.

Advice?

What would be the best way to approach it in this situation?

Why don't you just make him an affiliate for your own products?

Either that or move to quickly buy an Auto Responder script that you can use to do a mail blast.

You can also do it in increments, half of your list at first to see how it plays out.

Sounds like a win win situation for both of you.

Although I haven't personally used this company, I've heard good things about them: TrafficWave.net

You can import your own list and there is a 30 day free trial. Let me know if it works out.

Kevin, I did something like this once with my 7k+ list.

The guy wrote the emails, and I sent them to my list. He set up a 50/50 rotator, and as it turned out, we both made exactly the same amount of money. Totally by accident.

The big issue - I realised down the track - was that he then had MY subscribers cookied with HIS affiliate link. The affiliate company in question send out emails to all buyers, so anything they bought down the track would be credited to the guy in question.

As it turned out, they didn't buy anything further through his link. (He became 2nd tier to me, so I was able to keep an eye on it.)

What I did to ensure (as best I could) they bought via my link, was send my subscribers to a free course the same affiliate company were providing. That then cookied them back to me.

Would I ever do something like this again? Absolultely not. It simply wasn't worth it.

I lost hundreds upon hundred of dollars in the process, and could easily have lost a lot more in lost affiliate sales.

At the time, I honestly thought this was a win/win situation. On reflection, it really wasn't.

In your case, you're basically giving away your proven materials to your competition. Why would you do that?

My suggestion is to either forget the whole thing, or buy a solo email from him which includes your affiliate link.

It's not so much that initial email (although you could and probably would lose money because of it) but it's all the follow up affiliate sales you lose because HIS COOKIES are in place.

Take it from someone who learned the hard way.

I do not believe his situation is the same as yours.

In his case, he is not the owner of the list.
The copy is what he is contributing.
The other person can pay someone on fiverr to do the copy.
The other person can get on someone's list that is similar niche
to his list.... and wait to be emailed.... and duplicate the copy.
Getting the copy is easy..... getting the list is harder.

He should do a rotator either way, and send to the list 1k at a time..
and see what converts the best... then tweak it for that.

You're right, the situation is not the same as mine, but the consequences could be exactly the same, which is why I've provided this information.

In this instance he is giving away his proven email copy, so the other person will benefit from the poster's expertise.

As I said before, I strongly believe paying for a solo email would be a much better route to take in this instance.

      No, this is totally illegal.

You may not email anyone that has not subscribed to YOUR email list via voluntary optin.

How do you know if a list is good or not? Is it all about where you get it from?

You don't "get" a list. You build it.

Never buy lists of subscribers - they will be on your list without permission and just might report you for spamming.

If none of this makes any sense, you need to read up on the CANSPAM laws.

And what's the difference between spamming and advertising? I know there's a big difference but where do you draw the line?

Spamming is send unauthorised emails to a list. Advertising is sending emails to an optin list.

Make sure you always provide quality emails to your list that includes information. I advertise in all my emails, but my subscribers don't mind because they are always provided with quality articles.

I pay people to write unique articles to send to my subscribers. As a result I have over 7,000 subscribers. Many of them have been with me from day one, which was something like ten years ago.

      Quality equals responsive subscribers.
