A slightly dejected newbie....

Guys,

I started off on the Warrior Forum just a few months ago and I must say that I am still in a very confused state. The plethora of information available in the War Room as well as the other forums has literally overwhelmed me. I am still confused where should I start.

I just do not know where do I start off with if I am to diversify? Whether I am going in the right direction or not?

Well, my skills include primarily WRITING. I can write very well. In fact, a lot of my works have been published in university papers etc. Meanwhile, I am not at all acquainted with anything even remotely associated with web designing. Please can one of the warriors suggest something.

Sorry if I am sounding extremely disillusioned but thats exactly how I am feeling. Anyway, I am sure Ill eventually get the grip of what I want to do.

You seem quite eloquent. Why not open a free Wordpress.org blog and just start writing about things you like. Build up a readership and pepper your content with affiliate links (when it's helpful to the reader!!). This might be a good approach for you, ultimately it's a slow burner though.

you could try article writing and kindle books??
then use social marketing to promote the books (and use the articles to promote the books too)
and use articles to promote affiliate items from clickbank

all just writing (and use your domain to promote any or all of the above?)

If you have some spare cash, why don't you put an advert promoting your services in the "Warriors for Hire" section. Take a look and see how the other writers are doing it. It should give you some ideas.

    Hi,

No need to apologize! Everybody has been in that state at some time in their journey.....and the feelings are part and parcel of being overwhelmed in a sea of information.

There are a number of options that you could choose (as you say there are hundreds of them) but here is a potential plan.

    1) Find a niche that you are passionate in.
    2) Grab a domain and some hosting.
    3) Set up a wordpress blog and get writing good quality information on your niche.
    4) Go to aweber and sign up for a newsletter...set it up on your site to start building a niche.....you will have to offer a "Bribe" to get them onto your list.....a free report on a topic of interest in your niche is a good example.
    5) Sign up to forums in your niche and contribute there....put a link to your blog on your signature.
    6) Contribute to groups on facebook, google, yahoo etc (don't spam but place your link where its relevant)
    7) Approach other blog owners in your niche and offer to guest blog for them.....they will allow you to get traffic to your site by placing a link or two in your article.

Now if you've noticed I've missed out the $$$ side of things.....

Once you've started to take action... i.e posting and and contributing content......head over to clickbank.com, amazon.com, offervault.com and see what offers you could offer the people on your list....or the people visiting the site.

Now if you need to make some $$$ relatively quickly.....WHILST you are doing the above ....

    Go to...

    Odesk.com
    Elance.com
    Guru.com
    Freelancer.com
    Fiverr.com
    Warrior for hire section

And offer out your writing skills as a service......

    Hope this helps!

If you need anything else do not hesitate in giving me a buzz.

    Kind regards

    Chris

I know exactly how this feels like - the overwhelm of information. I think it's something everybody has to go through at the beginning. At first things might not seem too logical, but then, when you start picking up the pieces of the puzzle and putting them together, everything starts making much more sense.

My advice to you is, just pick something and believe it's going to work (because the fact is, most of the methods, systems, strategies, etc. do work, it just takes some time before you get the hang of it and make it work). So, just build a plan for yourself that makes sense (it has to make sense right from the beginning) and stick with it.

I'll bet you now know enough to start working, so don't let anything distract you and get to work. You can do it. If you need to, just unsubscribe from lists you are subscribed to, do whatever it takes, but stay consistent and focused on just one method.

If you say you've spent a lot of time here on warrior forum and have a lot of information ( "The plethora of information available in the War Room as well as the other forums has literally overwhelmed me" ), you know everything you need to know.

Take one or two days off just finding what you like. If you like writing, then write down all the opportunities you can think of that are related to writing and make money. Here are some examples: article writing on fiverr, provide a service here on warrior forum, go to sites like textbroker . com and apply for a writer...

And if you don't want to make money via providing services, then you need to find a niche that you are passionate about and start to focus on that. You have access to war room and purchased some WSOs, so you know what to do after picking the niche. Then, the main goal should be focus on that passionate niche and become an authority. When you're there, you will know exactly what you should do. Just sort the things out in your head and find something you will stick with.

    Hope it helps

        Absolutely.

If you want to learn how to fly a plane, you get trained by a flying instructor.
If you want to learn how to cook, you get trained by a chef.
If you want to learn how to paint, you get trained by an artist.

For some reason, it seems that most people think this doesn't apply to internet marketing.

        Easy. You ask.

But remember, theres a big difference between asking and begging.

This will work : "I would really appreciate your help and advice. I'm willing to pay. Would you be kind enough to take me onboard for 6 months?"

This wont : "Im stuck. How about you help me for free and I'll write a few articles for you. I dont have any money"

Excellent point! I totally agree. In fact, for 2012, I've already spent $9K: $2K for Product Launch Formula and $7K for coaching from my mentor. (I'm flying to TX in less than 2 weeks for our first one-on-one session. Yay!)

Mentoring can (but not always) be expensive. First, make sure you're ready for mentoring.

One-on-one mentoring is typically more expensive than group coaching. A complete newbie typically can't afford mentoring, nor will he get the most out of it.

To get the most out of mentoring, it helps to know what you want to do. Even some experience under your belt will help you get the most out of mentoring.

The good news is that you can learn a lot for free or low cost. If you have NO idea what you want to do, start with free research. The Internet is a goldmine of information. Ask any Warrior. Information overload is one of our biggest problems.

PAY ATTENTION T YOUR BUSINESS MODEL! I can't stress this enough. See my post above for info on this.

Once you have an idea of the niche and target market you want to pursue, buy a course or two from someone who's been successful in that field. Subscribe to a few e-mail newsletters in that field and watch what they do.

Information courses and your future competitors can be great, low-cost mentors!

Once you know what you want to do, then consider investing in a mentor. If you know exactly what niche and target market you want to pursue, you'll get a lot more out of it. I highly recommend it. My mentor is PHENOMENAL. I want to be just like her when I grow up.

Hi there, one of the best way to overcome this feeling is to make the first few dollars as fast as you can. When I was starting out, I made 1k with about 3 hours of work, it was a major booster of confidence and the fact that yes, there is a market out there.

You mentioned that you are good in writing, why not try going to iwriter.com and write a few articles to earn some money online VERY fast. After you have written an article, it will usually be approved a few hours later and you will see the money in your balance. The payout is not fantastic but it is one of the fastest way I know of to get some quick cash and confidence.

Let me know what your ID is if you do join, I will keep a lookout for you and send some articles your way.

You mention that writing is your best skill, so why not offer a writing service?

However, please don't be tempted to join the $5-or-less-article-writer mentality. Start off by positioning yourself properly. It's a myth that you have to start off low, and then perhaps raise your prices once you get established. It doesn't work. Start as you mean to go on.

I would also advise against trying any of the bid-for-work type sites, like elance.com, or any of the content mill sites either. It is difficult to get established in those places. Besides, there's a much easier way.

Read this post I made in another thread some time ago. The method quite simply works.

    John.

I would be more than glad to offer my services as an article writer in the Warriors for Hire section. I think utilizing the spare cash I have for a purpose like that would not be a bad idea. I will do so soon.

Meanwhile, I just wanted to know that if in the future, I am to make my presence felt in the zone of internet marketing, will it be absolutely essential for me to be well-versed with atleast the basic practices constituting SEO? I am specifically referring to backlinking, article marketing and various other techniques that I have read about whilst going through the several sub-forums.

Thanks a lot for all of your responses guys. Well appreciated

Listen to the advice that is being given here by real people who have taken the time to respond.

Do not just go out on an information finding spree, buying instructional course after course as you will end up even more bogged down by the information overload disease.

      Listen to Confucious

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

Take some time out now to figure out what you really want to do and what you enjoy, make an achievable plan and go for it.

You're a War Room Member, which is good. In there you have a lot of great tools but it can be overwhelming. My advice would be to choose one niche, one approach to generating traffic and stick with it daily for at least 3 months. Be stubborn and continue to learn whether it be article marketing/syndication or offering writing services or writing PLR.

As someone that can write well, you have a great advantage over many here. Use that skill

As far as the writing I am interested in goes, I probably need to measure how receptive the web is in terms of traffic primarily, to what I write on my blog. Maybe thereon Ill get an idea as to whats best for me. Thanks a ton nonetheless. Really appreciate all the members trying to help out here.

Jk Log off. Forget about WF. think about your interests and your skills and what YOU would want to do. When you have a sense of what YOU want to do and suits your interests and skills then log back on and only look for information that caters to your goals.

If you join the majority with no idea of what they want outside of looking for ways to "make money" you will do as they do bouncing from one idea to another and getting nowhere in return. Buck that culture - don't join it.

@MikeAnthony - I actually adhered to what you said and realised that it is better I stick to my interest i.e. writing. I do not know as of now how to start off exactly.

That being said, I will very soon post an ad in the Warriors for Hire section in order to atleast get the ball rolling on the dollar front. The small part of me which is apprehensive is only because I am uncertain of the reception I may get as a newbie in most fields apart from SEO and Amazon - I mean I checked out the section and I can clearly see there are several people out there who have much more as well as much richer experience than I do, in the field of content writing. I guess for the time being, I will still have to take the opportunity and make the most of it.

Thanks nonetheless to all those who cared to reply

Im sure this forum has a large market for article writers, but if you want another source:

    http://www.textbroker.com

It has good pay rates and is a trusted source.

If your not USA based, they opened a UK site that supposedly accepts any native english speaker.

The pay rates are based on your ability, and can get pretty good.

Just find a guru here or on the web that you like the style of, Bet they have a book about internet marketing, buy it. Go from step a to step z and don't go looking elsewhere.

    Bet that works.

It sounds like you need some structure and to keep things simple so as to not get distracted.

If you major skill is writing you might consider making a mini site selling those skills, or, as you already suggested, a blog. One of the things which many people struggle with is the writing side of the business so you at least have a decent head start.

If you still want to give it a go feel free to add me on skype and we can help you by teaching you how to build you site or blog and how to drive traffic to it.

We offer support in many ways.......video/picture/text tutorials, a private members forum and most importantly live 1-1 skype support.

I think you need to sit back with a coffee and chill for a few days. Indeed, there is so much information of the WF that it can be hard to know what to do with it all!

Remember you can't be all things to all people so have a real good think and pick your niche. I know when I started I was trying to juggle several things at once but was seeing little return for my efforts - even going back to my office job seemed appealing ( that bad!)

But once I really decided what I wanted to do, in a particular niche, focusing on quality content that answers peoples questions I found myself making good progress. Don't bee too disillusioned, persevere and you'll get there!!

If you want to make your first dollar online and you have good writing skills this simple easy to follow plan is the exact way you should be going.

If you follow this plan you will make few hundred dollar for sure your first month. It is a tight step by step plan that I am giving you, I am sure this will completely eliminiate your confusion.

What I will be giving you right now is the foundation of starting an internet business? If your foundation is right, you will end up creating a successful online business in near future. But if you are lazy enough to set up your foundation no matter what you do later will crash your internet business right from the start.

Here's the step by step plan...

    1. Get away from information overload. Stop reading tons of ebooks, reports, etc right now. More you read them and don't take action on them more you will land up in confusion. I was a victim of information overload my first 3 years online. It still holds my neck some times, Therefore I advise you to stop running behind business opportunities any more and start doing the work.

    2. Pick up a niche you wish to get started with. Use google keyword tool to make sure that your niche has sufficient demand to get started.

    3. Get all your compoenents ready. Here are the components you will need to build the foundation of your internet business...

    a. Free report - This is a 20 page report that you will give away to your visitors to get them to signup to your list.

    b. Products - If you have your own products get started with them, if not search out affiliate products to get started with. I recommend to have atleast 10 products right now.

    c. Emails - These are solid content emails that you will have to create to give valuable information to your subscribers. The content should be good. Below the content you will promote your product, infact you will recommend your product once you have given solid content to your readers.

I recommend writing atleast 6 content emails per product. For 10 products you will have atleast 60 emails under your belt.

    d. Autoresponder - Don't go with a free one, don't do this mistake as this is the most powerful tool. Get started with aweber or UMC which is the autoresponder service I personally use.

    e. Squeeze page - Give your readers benefits of signing up to your list. Tell them about the benefits that they will gain while reading your free report, emails, etc.

    4. Connect all the above components. Connect your squeeze page with your autoresponder form. Put your emails in your autoresponder campaign. Set up your emails with your affiliate links. Test everything.

    5. Now that your site is ready start driving traffic to your squeeze page.

I personally use article marketing. Here's one simple plan if you are willing to put in efforts.

Write 5 articles every day, submit them to the relevant article directory out there and point your artiles to your squeeze page in the resource box.

Submit your articles to ezinearticles and one of the mass article distribution service or software like 'Article Marketing Robot' or 'Distribute Your Articles'.

Make sure you consistenly submit 5 per day to get the momentum rolling. If you do this you will start seeing leads pouring in your autoresponder from the first week itself.

    6. Test and track everything.

It is important to test various components of your above system...

    a. Test your squeeze page conversion rate.

    b. Test how many instant visitors you are getting from every article you are submitting.

    c. Test your product sales conversion rate.

    d. Test your email open rates and click through rates.

    e. Determine the value per lead in your funnel.

    f. Know how many visitors you are getting per article in the long run.

Start improving your numbers. Get atleast 500 leads in your funnel before you take any decision.

    7. Once you have your numbers start scaling things up.

Let us assume that one article is getting you one lead instantly and one lead is making you profits of $5 in your first 30 days. Scale up your system an start writing 10 articles per day.

You will soon notice that your articles are giving you more traffic because articles spread like a virus. Your previous articles will drive you visitors and your current articles will give you instant traffic.

You will notice that your per article traffic numbers keep increasing and within a year you might notice that every article is getting you 5 even 10 leads in the long run. You will notice that every lead is making you $10, even $20 profits in the long run if you have done a good job of relationship building with your list.

Now all you need to do is scale up your system and then start re-investing your profits. Get others to work for you while you relax, sip orange juice at the beach the way gurus have told you to do...

    Hope this helps...

You do not have to have a website to earn money but it can help. Find websites where you can showcase your writing skills and earn money from writing. Then when you have got abit more confidence just read abit of information at a time and do not overload yourself and then it will not seem so overwhelming for you.

I would recommend that you seek help right from the get go rather than making unnecessary mistakes and having to correct them later on.

That what mentors like us are here for. To save you time and stress by helping you to get it right the first time around.

    jkflipflop,

There have been quite a few wso's of late that are "blueprint" in nature that also include coaching from the owners. These are excellent because they cure the "overwhelming feelings" and the "what to do" symptoms you are experiencing right now. The blueprint and coaching help you to focus and right now that is what you are having an issue with FOCUS. You need to stop hopping from one idea to the next and settle on just one, which has been mentioned in this thread already , and can't be stressed enough.

The one thing that will cure you the most is picking just one thing and act like a horse with blinders on regarding other income opps and just take ACTION. Once you start taking serious steps toward creating online income you will soon stop feeling as you are now.

    Set goals

If you set small, short-term goals for yourself you will create direction in your online life.

Once you start achieving those goals your feelings of being overwhelmed will start to reside and you will build confidence instead.

    Good luck!

murtuza outlined step by step a good path for a person who knows their passion, goals and what purpose being online serves to help reach your goals.

You have to get past the "I want to make money on the Internet" and define what you want to do. All of us have been where you are now. We have spent months and thousands of dollars learning from the most successful. We are all successful on our terms. That includes you. There are millions of people wandering around the Internet who don't come to Warrior Forum. They miss out so you are ahead of many.

You need definition to help you not get distracted and overloaded and move you toward your goal. What is your goal? How do you prefer to work and earn your income? Write for others? Teach people how to write (what kind of writing?) and teach via a product? Your product or as an affiliate or both? Workshops and seminars?

Lots of ideas on here yet you must define your personal passion, purpose and personal goals. Then you will know what kind of mentor you need and then your mentor can better help you define the path and steps toward your business success to help achieve your personal goals.

Don't get intimidated by people touting their writing experience. You already bring writing skills and experience. You are not a writer seeking on the job training. Samples of writing are proof of your skills, make your offer confident and solid. You will get business.

    Good luck!

      What Barbara P. said above!

Clarity is a HUGE part of IM success.

IM is actually pretty simple: you can sell only one of two things:

      1. Products
      2. Services

      That's it!

And selling products or services online happens in the same basic way for everyone, no matter what they're selling:

      Traffic > Opt-in page > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) > Sales page

That's it! It's just that simple. (We IMers tend to overcomplicate things.)

But no matter what your niche is, or whether you're selling a product or a service, do you know what your business model is?

A business model is the framework or skeleton of your business. Essentially there are three types of online business models:

      1. Membership-based model

A membership-based business model allows you to build a community of people (your members) who are as passionate about your subject as you are. Your membership fees can be monthly or annual, but either way, you're building recurring, passive income.

There are a lot of resources and information out there to help you build a membership-based business if you're interested in doing this.

      2. Product-based model

Selling products allows you to maximize your time and effort by selling items over and over again. This can be hard goods or it can be information products. Information marketing is it's own business model under the product-based model. Information marketing allows you to take your brain to the bank by creating a product ONCE based on what you know and selling it over and over again.

I see someone has already recommended affiliate marketing. You can choose to market either products or services as an affiliate.

      3. Service-based model

Selling services can be great for 1) generating quick cash (as in the case of article writing or video producing) and 2) establishing your expertise and getting testimonials.

However, in the long run, your goal should be to offer services at a PREMIUM. The biggest advantage of IM is LEVERAGE. You're able to leverage your time, money and expertise exponentially online. We all have just 24 hours each day. Time to get ruthless about what you expect for those hours you spend in IM each day. Expect more of yourself and more from your business friends, clients, partners, etc.

What results are you getting for those hours you spend online each day? Ultimately, your services should be at the bottom of your funnel and cost the most since they involve your time and personal attention. (We all have a limited amount of time each day.)

The fun (and confusion) comes in with all of the endless mix-and-match possibilities of the above models. If you're just starting or still struggling to make money, keep it simple:

      Pick just ONE!

      1. Pick ONE niche. (Something you're interested in and know something about.)

      2. Pick ONE target market for your product or service. (Who will buy what you're offering? The more specific you are, the more you narrow it down, the more successful you'll be.)

      3. Pick ONE business model.

Now that you're clear about what business you're in, FOCUS! (And stop buying any info not related to your niche and target market, period!)

      F -- Follow
      O -- One
      C -- Course
      U -- Until
      S -- Successful

And remember: build a list, Build a List, BUILD A LIST!

In IM, it's easy to put the cart before the horse. Take a deep breath, step back and consider what type of business you're REALLY want. Don't worry about getting traffic or buying that expensive traffic product until you know 1) what your business model is, 2) what niche you're in and 3) WHO your target market is!

Successful business people will tell you that MARKETING is more than half the effort that's needed for success anyway. So pick a niche, target market and business model. Then spend most of your time and effort marketing it.

If you DON'T have a solid plan or system, THAT'S when it's hard. A good system will shave YEARS (and save you big $$$) off of your learning curve

That's why I recommend investing in at least one good, comprehensive IM course (or mentor who will give you such a system) instead of jumping from one $37 e-book to the next. A lot of people here complain about not being able to make any money. But neither are they willing to invest in their business. (Buying a random bunch of $37 e-books doesn't count.)

The best thing I ever did was invest in a comprehensive IM course aimed at REAL business owners, not just other IM wannabes. Yes it was $1500. (Now it's only $997. :p) But it was truly some of the best A-Z IM info I ever bought. Everything else I've learned (from the $37 e-books) since has simply been plugged into this system.

Get a solid plan or system and then work the plan!

      Hope this helps!

A few years ago, I linked up with a free course called the '30 Day Challenge', now named 'The Challenge'. (The Challenge) It took me from beginning to end, albeit not in any depth, and kind of ignited my 'career'. Might be a good start for you, and your only investment is hosting and a domain name. Of course, they have paid courses as well, but this was a great starter for me.

If you love writing, you should write articles and submit them to EzineArticles.com. Depending on your niche, you could get sales immediately. I've gotten sales 3 days after 5 of my articles were published on EzineArticles.

If that's not your cup of tea, become a freelance writer. Go to fiverr.com and start getting yourself some gigs. If you want an autopilot business though... create a $7 ebook and market it via articles, Youtube, and forums related towards your niche.

As others mentioned, choose one topic, and learn as much as possible about it. Then add your own twist, and pursue. It may not happen overnight, but nothing ever does.

Writing should open up many opportunities for you. Here's what I did with my writing skills...sign up to all the freelance websites, and begin writing. It's instant money, and will help you survive until you're able to expand or venture into other areas. Learn as much as you can, and then DO IT.

Oh, and as far as the mentor thing goes...

Being overwhelmed can be a biggie. Despondency can be a biggie. It could be all part of the grist for the mill. The very fact though, that you know it's there I reckon puts you one or two steps ahead. Being somewhat new myself, I do understand, and would lie to say, keep on pushing that door open, stick to one model, see it through and focus.
    Good luck and kick a**

..................I just do not know where do I start off with if I am to make my first dollar online?.....................

Sorry if I am sounding extremely disillusioned .................
You have a lot of responses here and some good advice. I believe that first you need to decide why you might even want to make a dollar. Is that a motivation for you?

I'm not sure that it is from reading your post. There's nothing wrong with that. However the need or desire for revenue can sometimes focus your attention.

If making money is not a great motivation then I would suggest you just start doing as many have said and just start writing and interacting with the patrons of the web.

When you are comfortable and find yourself enjoying that and you see that your writing is tending to focus in some certain area and you want to monetize it, then become and affiliate or maybe get into a CPA network and see where that leads you.

If you approach it like that in a year or so you may be surprised by what you have going for you.

If you are looking to get rich quick and with your current lack of focus you will probably be disappointed.

As I said I'm not sure what your motivations are for being online. You need to sort that out first.

I do have two suggestions (to make some $ online) and they are mirrored in posts all over this thread in one form or another.

1.) Pick out a method that some one is promoting free or paid. If you believe it is a viable way to produce money and after some research you are led to believe this system works. (ASK! That's one of the ways the WF is a great asset to all of us. Leverage it!) Now the most important part.... Put on blinders, quit surfing all over the forum and do what you are told to do in the product you selected. DO IT! every last step. If you have chosen a good product chances are very good you will achieve some results.

2.) If it works do more. At the very minimum you will have learned something. You mentioned writing university articles. Why are people attending that school? Is there a short cut to be an engineer, Doctor , Lawyer, or even a teacher? I think not. If you have spent considerable time effort and money to have the knowledge you now possess why should learning an online business be instant?

The beauty of the Internet however is the great amount of leverage it can give an online business. If you can grasp that concept you can speed up the process of wealth creation considerably. There in lies the true secret of the Internet and building an Online business.

5+ Billion is a pretty large market place and it lies on the other end of your keyboard and monitor.

    That's this Old Dog's opinion.....

    Best of luck!

A sincere thanks to all those who have taken time out to reply to me. I am atleast now getting a grip of what i should focus on. The suggestion to free lance on websites such as Fiverr and also, as pointed out earlier, posting an advertisment on the "Warriors for Hire" section, are probably the 2 most valuable suggestions that I need to implement immediately.

Will be doing so in the next 1 or two days. Meanwhile, I will also be focussing on building the blog surrounding my niche in these next few days. Lets see how that goes as well.

The first thing for you to do is to think of what really interests you
      in this business.
Another option is to get a mentor or coach who can help you put everything in order.
I think the other warriors will agree that John Taylor is a good choice.
If he's still taking people you could send him a PM.
But it's up to you, you could certainly go it alone with a lot of perseverance
you will get to where you'd like to be.

May I bring to attention that you have expressed that you have skill and knowledge based around WRITING and that you like WRITING ... If this is truly a passion and skill, and sounds like you may even have some experience in teaching, and possibly teaching about WRITING already ... it also may suggest that you probably already have some CONTENT from your classes etc in your files ... My point is here that you can offer great value to people writing about WRITING ... (btw I actually need some writing help right now, and if you would like to do a little writing for me please contact me) I agree with one of the above posts ... you already have a huge leg-up on alot of people in a business that evolves around bring content ... and you hold one of the three biggest skills in delivering content online ... did I mention that I need a little assistance in the writing dept ? Look forward to hearing from you if you because I was just about to head to Fiverr to get content for an immediate project
