I can't afford Aweber or any other automated mail system. (or should I say I couldn't subscribe due to unverified paypal)

Can I build a list on my website manually?

Well, just google it. I'm sure you can find some. Or use wordpress plugins like G-Lock Double Opt-in Manager. I never used anything else except Aweber, so I don't know if those work well.

    Hope it helps

There are various ways you can build a list manually.

If you have wordpress installed, you can use one of the free list building / newsletter plugins.

If you have cpanel on your web hosting you can use phplist which is a free php script.

Your limitation will be how many emails you can send from your host. Most hosts will only allow 250 to be sent per hour.

Another option, if you only plan to send one-off broadcasts, is to use old-school mailing list software. I know cPanel offers a couple of different ones, but back in the day I tended to use Mailman.

If you use this, make absolutely certain that you set up your list as an "announcement list", otherwise your subscribers will also get copies of emails sent to the list owner.

If you start list building with some other service or tool and then switch to Aweber, will they let you use that list you have already gathered? Or do you have to get those people to sign up again?

I do not think that they need to RE-optin.
They have an option so that you can decide that.
BUT, I have been told that if you send out to a list and they see a lot of spam complaints then they will not let you send from your list until you have them optin again.

Just to keep people from loading random lists.

I believe that is very much possible if your site gets a lot of visitors. But if it does not, it will consume a lot of time.
If time is something that you can afford, go ahead.

Most cpanels for you hosting will have a free autoresponder you can use. They are slow when it comes to delivering, but it will get the job done. Once you start making money off your list you could then sign up to aweber.

if you want to go to Aweber your subscribers will have to re-optin (as far as I know). but there are some other autoresponders that will let import your list without re-optin. I think icontact does that.

Tes, imnicamail is free for 1000 subscribers. I just signed up yesterday but got a little disappointed when my test mails went right into the spam folder. I guess they are working on it and have better delivery rates to gmail accounts.

  • You could, but I really wouldn't recommend it.
My advice is that if you are serious about building an online business, you have to be prepared to invest a little in your business. You have to treat it like a business.

You can join Aweber for $20 a month, so just cut out a few unnecessary treats each month and you will have the money.

Thanks for your advice, since being under 18 is a problem for me getting a credit card to verify my paypal account (I am already 18 this year, but I was born on 29 DEC that makes me have to wait for another year).

The money in the paypal account cannot be taken out or used, so frustrated.
